4. Kate Beckinsale vs Rhona Mitra II

Kate:

(47, 5’7, 60:41:3 FCBA, VIXENs)

Rhona:
(44, 5’6, 6:10 FCBA, Free Agent)

BEFORE:
This a rematch fifteen years in the making, with Kate Beckinsale first losing to Rhona back in 2005 when both women were in their prime. Details of that night’s battle are sketchy but apparently it was a huge back-and-forth war between the two fighters, till Rhona managed to outwork Beckinsale on the ropes to KO her within eight rounds.

Kate of course hoping to avoid that outcome in tonight’s bout, first touting the insane imbalance between their fight-experiences then compared to now:

“Well, I’ve basically sailed past her in that regard, haven’t I? I may have lost that first fight that night, but look at where we both are now: I’m coming up on my hundredth-and-tenth fight and she’s barely crossed fifteen total. I have total confidence of winning this time,” Kate says with a half-certain smile that’s definitely carrying some baggage.

Rhona of course trying to portray herself as the prior winner at best, with nonchalance at worst, smiling from the other end of the table as she replies thereafter:

“The media has always portrayed us as lookalikes, but I proved fifteen years ago that I was the better fighter, and I have no qualms about doing the same fifteen years later. All my love to Kate for keeping herself active in the fight scene, but at the end of the day, I hear she’s still having loads of trouble getting into the Hall-of-Fame, especially with that recent KO1 bust-up against McCarthy.”

Three years difference in terms of age, but ladies are around the same height and built as they meet in the middle of the room. Kate is wearing a red sports bra and long black tights, whereas Rhona is in an all-black ensemble as they face off for the cameras. For their combined age that’s pushing 100, both Brits are sporting toned bodies as they face each other with confident grins.

Hours later, we’re back in the ring. Kate’s swinging black gloves on either side of her body, fixing her gum shield in place and waiting for the opening bell in her corner. In the other, Rhona’s doing last minute stretches of her own, before raising red gloves when her name is announced to the crowds. Referee waves his hand to start this bout and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
Kate rearing forward right out of the gate - perhaps that KO1 loss to McCarthy is still pissing her off at the back of her mind - slamming a first one-two exchange into Rhona’s arms and keeping up the pressure on her fellow Brit for the rest of the round. Rhona shocked, as she should be, by her compatriot’s sudden aggression - this wasn’t the Kate Beckinsale she fought fifteen years ago. Ladies end up tangled whenever Rhona nears the ropes, quickly clinching together and blasting punches into every crevice they can find. For women pushing fifty, they show plenty of energetic action in this opening round, though Rhona manages to stave off too much damage with the repeated body-on-body contact. Kate has to shore up her wrestling moves if she wants to consistently land her punches from close range. For now though, she takes the first round wide, but doesn’t look too happy with her result as she heads back to her corner cursing and swearing at the lack of action.

ROUND 2:
Rhona’s a little more comfortable this time as the punches resume, Kate still marching towards her and immediately throwing a three-punch combo at her head, but it’s absorbed by her raised arms. Rhona takes small but effective shots back between the action, shoving fist after fist into Beckinsale’s lips and earning her many grunt for her efforts. Kate dishing out plenty of punishment but doesn’t realise she’s taking it back in an equal, if not destructive manner. Rhona punctuates this late in the round as she socks the Brit across the face with a nice counter-hook, which turns Kate’s pretty head to the side. So far, so good, with both women earning their keep and throwing the rest of this fight open when the bell rings to end the second.

ROUND 3:
Rhona’s turn to strike forward with confidence, stopping Kate’s early advance with a step-in BLAST to the arms, then another right hook sent into her tummy, just because she can. Kate lets out a groan as she’s folded over, can’t stop the next few jabs landing all over her face as she gets pushed back in turn. Rhona’s advance is methodical, slowly picking away at the Head Vixen from a distance, and for a brief moment, it looks like history might repeat itself once more as she drives Kate into the ropes and snaps her head back over the top with more short jabs. Kate, however, focuses her guard over her face eventually, heaving hard as her body takes a beating from Rhona burying her fists to the middle left and right. But Kate still can count on the bell to stop the action in the third - clearly a bad round for her overall, but there’s still plenty of room for her to avoid the same KO8 loss.

ROUND 4:
A stunning return sees Beckinsale employ counter-punching to parry one of Rhona’s straight hands to the side, before SLAMMING her own hook clean across the other Brit’s face! OUCH! Rhona’s seeing stars but not giving up the attack, continues swinging away at Kate’s body down below, and refusing to retreat. Beckinsale does her best to block the blows, but is also determined to push Rhona back for good, taking a one-two chugging combo to the midsection, but having braced for it, managed to swing an uppercut back up, which SNAPS Rhona’s head upwards! AND THERE SHE GOES, Mitra knocked silly and sent towards the ropes, which initially saves her from going down! Kate rushing in, using the last few seconds of this round to return the favour: fists chopping into tummy flesh or blasted across the arms, trying to send Rhona down, to no avail! A wide round to Beckinsale, who returns to this fight by evening out the points!

ROUND 5:
Rhona looks unsure all over again as the two women meet in the center and circle, both their arms up to protect the head and occasionally poking a jab towards the other side. Kate, however, decides to capitalise on her opponent’s earlier hurt and lunge suddenly downwards and to one side, SCORES with a nasty hook to Rhona’s ribs, which draws a look of pain and anguish, as one of the Brits begins to melt! Kate alternates her shots, a low swing sent to the body, another high hook bashing into the arms, aiming for Mitra’s head. Mitra is headed once more for the ropes, battered left and right as she wilts in the face of Kate’s aggression - another PLOWING shot sent right down the centerline rocks her chin upwards! AND DOWN SHE GOES! MITRA crashing down to the canvas, lying there on her side, completely knocked out! Referee steps in to WAVE the rest of this fight off! It’s OVER in KO5 fashion!

Official Decision: Kate Beckinsale defeats Rhona Mitra via KO5!

AFTER:

Some small measure of redemption here for Kate Beckinsale after losing in such a disastrous manner to Jenny McCarthy, but then winning tonight’s rematch after fifteen years of improvement. She doesn’t look too happy with her win though, the wheels already turning on how she plans to round off the coronation series with McCarthy with a final, decisive win.

“If Mitra had stayed in the ring, I’m sure this fight would have ended very differently. Kudos to her for accepting our invitation though. It’s difficult at our age to get moving again, least of all used to the feeling of being punched in the face,” Kate says to reporters later. “As for McCarthy, rest assured that this rivalry ain’t over.”

Mitra is later helped up to her feet by Beckinsale herself, where they share a brief hug and words of encouragement going forward.

“She’s definitely a better fighter compared to last time,” Mitra later says to reporters herself, smiling as she tries to make light of her loss. “I wish Kate all the best in her Coronation fight with McCarthy. And who knows? Maybe we’ll fight again in the ring when we’re 80!” she says with a laugh.
