Brie Larson vs. Margot Robbie (Results: Lookout! Words: The Grand Wizard)

BEFORE:

Battle of superheroines pits Marvel vs. DC...and, more importantly, a pair of top bantams against one another. Robbie's had an up and down couple of years, while Larson followed a great 2019 with an OK 2020 and has just changed stables. And, somehow, neither of the two beauties has managed to win a title, but, it's not too late for either, and both plan to start that next campaign tonight. "I'm SO glad to be at Lookout!", says Brie with a smile. "They'll push me and get me the title shot I deserve. But, I've got to do my part, and that starts with taking out Margot tonight!"

"Brie may well get a title shot," says Margot with a smile of her own. "But, it won't be because she beat ME. THAT is NOT goint to happen!"

ROUND ONE:

Stylistic clash starts early. Margot likes to use the length, jab, work at range, while the American is more about movement, lateral and forward/backward, always looking for angles and spots to get off in combination. And, in the first, is Larson who gets much the better of things. Aussie's working that left hand, but she's not finding anything but air with it most of the time. Brie's bouncing, bobbing, weaving, slipping, dipping, then getting off quickly with sharp, accurate fire. Robbie never hurt, but she's getting touched up from the beginning of the round and can't seem to find answers to what the American is doing. By the time the bell rings, Larson's completely in rhythm and Robbie's completely out of sorts. No doubt about it on the cards. Brie and wide to take the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Robbie finds some answers. All of a sudden, she's got the range and the timing down, and it makes a ton of difference. Now, the American's getting peppered with left hands, slowed down, held, and then nailed with hard right hand follows. And, as out of sorts as Margot seemed in the first round, now, the Aussie's in rhythm and it's Brie who can't seem to get anything going offensively...because she can't get off the defensive. Instead, she's taking fire and covering up, taking fire and covering up, waiting and waiting for opportunities to get off, opportunities that never come. Result is a round just as one-sided as the first, except in the other direction. When the bell finally rings, a clearly-frustrated Larson stalks back to her corner, while Margot BOUNCES back to hers, having taken it wide and evened things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Larson turning up the heat. She's getting more aggressive in an effort to get things going again, but, it's not working. She's still getting a face full of Aussie jab again and again and then...BOOM! Right hand, MARGOT and Brie is HURT! Larson wobbles, clinches, and MARGOT DROPS HER WITH A LEFT HOOK! American splashes to her back as the Aussie bounces to a neutral corner. Larson sputtering, staring up at the referee as he counts down, finally begins moving at six, manages to get to her feet at nine. Ref thinks carefully while giving Brie the mandatory, then waives on Margot! Robbie hammering away with both hands, batters her rival into the ropes and then gives her a thorough going over as the ref looks in closely. Larson guts it out and makes it to the bell, but, when it rings, Margot's grabbed the round 10-8 to lead 29-27.

ROUND FOUR:

Robbie all OVER Larson early. Brie's legs are more than a little iffy and Margot's taking full advantage, battering the American around the ring while piling up points and punishment. Ref is watching closely, as Larson's not doing much, but she's doing enough to keep him at bay, especially because she's mostly managing to stay off the ropes. Eventually, Margot gets her there and calls in some artillery strikes, but Brie clinches and works her way free. But, whether on the ropes or not, the Aussie's completely dominant, hammering away at her rival, scuffing her up, looking for the 'off' switch. Looking. But, not finding. When the bell rings, for the fourth time in four rounds, there's absolutely no doubt about it. Robbie's pitched a shutout to pull in front by three, 39-36. But, Brie is, at least, still standing.

ROUND FIVE:

Robbie's burned an awful lot of energy over the last three rounds, and it catches up with her some. She's still jabbing, but she's not doing so as much or as effectively. Doesn't matter early, because Larson's legs are still not up to snuff. As the round goes on, however, Brie shakes the worst of the damage and begins to get something going offensively. All of a sudden, for the first time since the opening round, the American's getting some solid work done. And, slowly but surely, she makes up the stagger, overcoming the first minute or so when Margot was getting the better of things and easing past her in the final thirty seconds or so. When the bell rings, it's plenty close for the first time in the contest, but it's Larson who gets the points and makes a beginning of getting back into it on the cards, now trailing by two, 48-46.

ROUND SIX:

Brie building on what she did in the fifth while changing the geometry. She's slipping and dipping and getting to middle distances where she can get off in combination, and it's working very very well. Now, Robbie's tossed to the defensive repeatedly as the American begins to take control. BOOM. Right hook, Larson and Robbie is HURT! Margot's legs all a-wobble as Brie lets the hands go, driving the Aussie backward and then DROPPING HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! Brie quickly to a neutral corner as the referee begins counting over the downed Robbie. Margot flat on her back, staring up at him. Aussie rolls to her belly at six. Pushes to hands and knees at eight, but can GET NO FARTHER! It's OVER! The count passes Robbie by and it's OVER and your winner by KO6 is Brie Larson!

AFTER:

"This is just the start," says Brie with a grin. "Just the start of the rest of my career! Lookout! makes champions, and I'm a champion in the making. As for Margot, she's a tough opponent. In fact, when I get those belts, I might just give her a shot. But, the result won't be any different the next time. Count on that."
