Karlie Kloss vs Amy Willerton
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Karlie Kloss
(28, 5’11, 19-20 FCBA, The Fighting Academy)

Amy Willerton
(28, 5’9, 7-6 combined, League of Mighty Women)

Pre-Fight: The Fighting Academy’s Karlie Kloss will be facing League of Mighty Women’s Amy Willerton in hopes of putting an end to her losing streak and get her first win of the year, but Amy will be motivated for a win of her own as her stable will be making a decision on her residency with them at the end of this month. After starting her career with three winning years, Karlie has had a tough couple of years recently and if she wants to turn things around this year, a win in this fight would definitely help her in that regard. Amy, on the other hand, is having a good year so far with her new stable and she is coming off a big win over Sandra Kubicka. Of course, she has been bulking up a bit after that lightweight fight earlier this month as she will be competing at welterweight for this one.

Karlie starts things off for the press-conference. “I’m looking forward to this fight! I haven’t been my best self recently, but I trained well and I have a good feeling for this one to get that elusive win! I realize that it will be an important fight for Amy, but I want it more and I’ll show that I really mean it in the fight!” She really seems to be in a positive mood and pumped up for the fight.

Amy seems calm, but assertive as she addresses her preparations for this welterweight fight. “The camp went really well as I bulked up and reached my target weight at the end before cutting back down a little for the weigh in. I feel great and I’m ready. Karlie says that she wants it more… I not only want it, but need it to stay in this league.” Amy is unusually calm and to the point with her statement, which might have to do with the rumor that she was warned by her stable for her behavior after her win against Sandra. It looks like she is not only looking for a win, but also to be on her best behavior to make a good final impression.

It is the fight night and Karlie comes out first with her coach, Kelly Hu, accompanying her. She waves to the crowd as they cheer for her. After entering the ring, she starts shadowboxing to warm up.

She is wearing a black bikini set with matching gloves and shoes, while her hair is tied back into a short ponytail.

Amy enters the arena next with her coach, Angelica Bridges, beside her. She looks focused on the task as she gives a quick wave to the cheering crowd before heading towards the ring to go over her warm up routine.

She is wearing a light pink bikini set with white gloves and shoes, while her hair is tied into a ponytail.

Both fighters come to the center of the ring to receive final instructions from the referee and then they touch gloves with a nod of respect and go back to their corners. We are now ready for 10 rounds of welterweight action!

Fight: Round 1: The mood changes quickly with the bell as both Karlie and Amy look to knock their opponent out right away. They rush to the center of the ring to stand and trade punches. Neither of them even thinks about backing down as they exchange some big shots up top, but Amy finally takes control after changing levels and going for the body of her opponent with a crunching hook to the ribs. Karlie winces and takes a step back to go on a defensive mode, while Amy keeps stepping up to her to keep the pressure.

Amy carries the confidence of winning that big exchange at the start of the match throughout the first round as she chases her opponent around the ring and lands either single punches or short combinations when she catches her. Karlie seems like she is regretting just standing and trading with Amy as it puts her in a vulnerable state for the rest of the opening round, which Amy ends up winning big on points.

Kelly looks frustrated with her fighter as she spends the break lecturing her. “What was that!? What happened to our game plan!? You can’t just get into a brawl with her. You have the height and reach advantage, so you have to use your range to tag her and keep her away, just like we discussed.”

Round 2: Amy rushes to the center once again, ready for another stand and trade, but Karlie isn’t going for it this time. Instead, she starts circling around Amy and tries to establish her jab early in this round to keep her distance. It turns out to be an effective strategy for Karlie as she not only starts landing those defensive jabs, but also gets her opponent frustrated. Not being able to press on with her advantage from the previous round, Amy starts to get more aggressive with her advances, which she immediately pays for when Karlie feints a defensive jab and instead goes for an uppercut. It lands flush on Amy’s chin and drives her back as it is now her turn to defend and Karlie’s turn to chase her opponent around the ring. Amy avoids getting in too much trouble, but Karlie dominates the rest of the round as she uses her reach to attack Amy from the outside, while keeping a safe distance from counter punches. With a big wing in this round, Karlie ties the score.

This time it is Angelica who uses the break to go over the game plan with her fighter. “You need to get inside, but you can’t just rush in recklessly. You have to be patient and find the right time and position to step in and start pummeling her body.”

Round 3: Karlie is sticking with her game plan that worked for her in the last round, while Amy starts the round looking more cautious. Karlie is still controlling the pace as she keeps her opponent away, but Amy is more patient with her approaches, so while she doesn’t land many punches, she is not getting hit as much as the last round either. It makes for a pretty uneventful round, but Karlie probably won’t mind as she takes a narrow lead with this one.

During the break, Kelly encourages Karlie to keep up the good work and to continue controlling the pace, while Angelica asks Amy to increase her intensity and find a better balance between staying patient and being more aggressive when needed.

Round 4: More of the same at the start of the fourth round. Amy tries to be a bit more aggressive, but Karlie’s defensive jab does its job to keep her opponent away. Karlie is still landing more punches, so she seems content with adding to her points lead. However, Amy has other plans in her mind and she finally gets a chance to cut the angle, duck under Karlie’s jab and get to the inside to start an exchange in the final half-minute of the round. She opens up with a jab to Karlie’s abs and follows it up with hooks to the ribs. Karlie backs away, but Amy lands a right hook and then her left hook barely grazes her opponent’s chin. Karlie survives the rest of the round, but that last exchange causes her to lose that round on points narrowly after controlling the majority of it.

Round 5: That last exchange must have encouraged Amy as she is making a more aggressive start to this round. It works out for her as she gets inside before Karlie can utilize her reach with her defensive jab. Once inside, Amy blasts both sides of her opponent’s body with a couple of hooks, but Karlie doesn’t want anything to do with this exchange, so she steps back to safety. It does give her enough time to establish her defensive jab once again, but Amy keeps coming forward now. As Amy tries to get inside, Karlie feints a jab and hits with an uppercut instead, exactly the way it happened in the opening round, but Amy falls into the same trap. Karlie follows up more aggressively this time around though, as she goes for a double jab-straight combo that forces Amy into survival mode. Karlie fires away combinations and while Amy seems to be blocking them with her guard for now, she doesn’t look very steady on her feet. Karlie finally splits Amy’s guard with a mean looking cross and then she lands a big left hook that drops Amy down on her back! Karlie goes over to the neutral corner and the referee starts the count. 1…2…3… Amy blinks to clear her vision for a moment and then slowly rolls to her side 4…5… she gets up on all fours 6…7…8… she stands up and raises her guard to show that she is ready to continue, so the referee wipes her gloves and restarts the action.

Karlie keeps the pressure on her opponent for the final minute of the round, but Amy defends well enough to survive until the bell. However, Karlie not only goes ahead once again in points, but also takes control of the match with that knockdown.

Round 6: Amy must be still feeling the effects of that knockdown as she starts the round with an uncharacteristically defensive style for her. Karlie, on the other hand, is willing to finish off her opponent as she goes on the attack right away. The Brit might be regretting going back to welterweight as she seems to be struggling with her opponent’s power in these later rounds, especially after getting knocked down. She is getting bullied around by Karlie in this round.

As we are entering the final minute of the round, Karlie increases the pace and the pressure as she drives Amy back once again with a combination up top. Amy tightens her guard up high, but Karlie just drives her back by blasting her guard with a double jab-cross combo and the Brit might be in trouble now as she is now trapped with her back to the ropes. Karlie tries to finish Amy off as she looks for an opening up top, but it looks like the Brit won’t be going down without a fight though. She starts firing back, maybe more out of desperation than anything else, but it catches Karlie by surprise and a crunching right hook to the ribs absolutely stuns the American model. Getting a bit more time and space to operate, Amy lands an uppercut to her opponent’s abs and a couple more hooks to the already damaged ribs of Karlie, who cannot take more of it and falls down onto her knees! Amy is still a bit unsteady herself as she walks over to the neutral corner with a surprised look on her face. 1…2…3… Karlie is still on her knees, clutching her ribs, trying to take a deep breath 4…5… she gets one knee up, but takes another moment before trying to get up 6…7…8… her body is clearly still hurting, but she gets up and beats the count. The referee starts the action again, but with only fifteen seconds left on the clock, both fighters are happy with running the clock down and getting a much needed break.

Karlie dominated the majority of the round and it looked like Amy was at the mercy of her opponent when she was stuck at the ropes, but a well-placed hook to the body changed it all and Amy surely won the round with that late knockdown.

Round 7: The bell rings to start the seventh round. Karlie seems to be still favoring her ribs as her guard is a bit lower and tighter around her body to protect them. Amy actually looks better now compared to the previous round as she seems to have found her second wind. As expected, Amy goes on the attack at the beginning and she targets her opponent’s body. Karlie is guarding her body well for now, but she is getting forced back, which could be problematic if she backs into the ropes or to a corner.

Amy controls the action for the first half of the round as she uses short combinations directed towards Karlie’s body, but not doing any more significant damage. We are now coming to the two-minute mark of the round and Amy picks up the pace once again and gets inside to throw a couple of hooks to the body, which Karlie defends well. Amy then goes for an uppercut and Karlie cannot switch her guard in time, so it snaps her head back and gives the Brit the opening she was looking for. Amy first goes for another hook to the ribs to keep Karlie guessing and then goes for a left hook to the chin and a right hook that turns and drops Karlie! Amy looks much more confident of her work this time as she once again goes over to the neutral corner. 1…2…3... Karlie is lying face down on the canvas, trying to push herself off of it without success 4…5…6… she finally pushes herself off and gets up on all fours 7…8… she gets one knee up, but she is shaking her head 9…10 Karlie is not able to get up and she gets counted out this time!

Official Result: Winner via KO in round 7, Amy Willerton!

Post-Fight: Amy raises her arms in celebration for a moment, but then quickly buries her face in her gloves and starts sobbing as it looks to be an emotional win for her. Angelica enters the ring and gives her fighter a hug and congratulates her. In the meantime, Kelly and the medical staff check up on Karlie and after giving her a moment to gather herself, they help her sit on her corner stool. As she receives the thumbs up from the doctor, a still emotional Amy comes up and after a quick chat they hug.
After getting her hand raised, she takes the microphone, but needs a moment before starting her post-match address as she still looks highly emotional. “Sorry… the past couple of weeks have been tough and the fight was even tougher. Karlie fought really well and pushed me to the limit, so I’m very happy and relieved to get this important win. I hope it will be enough for me to stay with my stable.” Just at that moment the LMW’s executive director, Sharon Horgan, enters the ring and hugs Amy. She then asks for the microphone. “Congratulations, Amy! It was an amazing fight and an important win. We are proud of you! I’m sorry if we put up some extra pressure on you in these past weeks. It wasn’t our intention. We just want our fighters to be their best selves both inside and outside of the ring. You have been making significant progress as well, so I’m happy to announce that we will be extending your residency with us for a second term!” With that, Angelica joined them to congratulate Amy with a group hug. Looks like Amy will be staying with her stable at least until the end of the year and if she could build on the success of her first term, she could as well become an integral part of them.
