Sandra Kubicka versus Eiza Gonzalez

(Words: O & E / Results: Lookout!)

Before: Eiza has a long history with the Lioness girls, and her 4-2 record against them has definitely given the likes of Lily Aldridge, Kelly Rohrbach and Joy Corrigan a crimp in their title ambitions. Sandra blunt about her ambitions: “Whichever Jenner wins, they’ll be wanting a blonde this autumn. If I can succeed where Kelly and Joy have failed, that blonde is going to be me!”

It is becoming clear that this is the year where the face of the O&E lightweight division transitions from Adriana Lima to Eiza Gonzalez, and if her record against and if her record against the Lionesses isn’t as dominant as Lima’s legendary manhandling of JKO, it is enough to pull her into the title picture. She also hasn’t forgotten the blatant fouling she received from Joy Corrigan in April: “She doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt. The first time he gets out of line, it’s war! I will not be taken advantage of!”

Ringposts in sand setup. Black bikini and gloves for Sandra, hair loose but slicked down. Eiza sporting the red halter and high-waisted bottoms from her SHAPE cover, red gloves, hair back and loose. Both fighters barefoot on the sand. Kubicka pressing up on Gonzalez during the instructions, gets a palm in her face for her troubles. Tensions already running high, even before the first bell!

R1: Sandra’s chin tucked; hands up; flat footed stepping blonde girl getting her shoulder into it, turning the left hand palm-down on delivery to chin...she's got Eiza staggering early! Kubicka follows up hard-eyed: swinging right takes Gonzalez thick to gut; stubby left hook in tight humbles jugs; doubled up left hook tucks in behind right elbow. Sandra pursues to ropes, issues fat, whacking right/lefts to waist, thick shove-n'-slug as Eiza keeping dukes up, suffering, trying to tie up behind Polish elbows. GREAT blonde pressure here: Kubicka rough with head-and-shoulders, discouraging clinches; fists working the paunch and flanks, cuffing and bashing, Gonzalez just sagging against ropes, rolling in the pocket, sponging up harm. Down the stretch, Sandra straightens out her arms as she's flapping to body, taking Eiza in thighs and trunks with a spanking assortment of lefts and rights. Gonzalez crying out, folding up: Kubicka pounds in an insurance right palm-down above left hip as ref's moving in hot. Warnings for Sandra, Eiza looking wounded, shabby after a punishing first.

R2: Midring range-finding, Sandra jamming a right hand over Eiza's outstretched left, punch behind the ear sends champ staggering to her right. Gonzalez hits ropes again woozy, blinking: she forms earmuff as Kubicka wades in. Thick, strapping whacks applied to the problem of Eiza's waist: Sandra swaying side to side, pulling vicious sidearm wallops into brunette paunch, bunching her up. Gonzalez clinching, laying back on ropes with Kubicka's weight on her chest...ref issues break...brunette sliding to her right along ropes as Sandra tracks her via jabs in the mouth. HARD sidearm right shakes Eiza's left flank: she forms earmuff, stoops forward, Kubicka squaring away, knuckling up at brunette guard before getting back to business downstairs. That's the way of the first couple minutes, Sandra shadowing Eiza along the apron, dipping and swaying side to side while slopping on body-harm. Down the stretch, Gonzalez finally erupts: left hook off right foot; right uppercut off right foot - both clean counters on a startled Kubicka's chin. Right hand jamming jaw as Sandra's reaching to clinch; clubbing left on jaw over blonde's outstretched right, Kubicka stumbling to her left, eyes wide. Gonzalez hurling lefts, clobbering Sandra upside the head - driving her ropeside at the stumble. Eiza pouring in - ripping the right/left to body - pushing Kubicka upright - feeding her an extra right cross across the face: blonde's head pitching back over top rope as strong legs give a shimmy. Bell: Gonzalez with teeth bared, pushing her left in Kubicka's chest while pouring on finishing rights...ref bodies seething Latina off as Sandra swoons in shock, coughing up the round to a late Eiza surge.

R3: Sandra steps-left, cutting off the ring, jabbing Eiza hard in her chest: sand-swishing tumble sends this thing ropeside for the third straight round. Kubicka giving it to Gonzalez in the body: thick, pounding blows either side of the paunch, Polish girl bringing her mitts back to her cheeks and bobbing on the spot - using a brawny left shoulder to push Eiza back into ropes to reset. Gonzalez in earmuff, elbows in tight to ribs: she's rolling-torso in the pocket, looking for counters, but suffering a fearful bombardment as Kubicka hammers the waist/biceps with the same two-beat bump-and-slug rhythm. Down the stretch, Sandra sits Eiza in ropes via BRUISING right/left to waist, blonde coming off body with left uppercuts - just jerkin' 'em in snug between mitts. Gonzalez hunching forward, munching punches, curvy legs hold her up, but she's hurt, cut in her mouth at bell.

R4: Eiza wades grimly in: Sandra touches her up, clinches for breaks. Bodies are heavy, feet flat, but fists really clouting out thick, damaging strokes, Kubicka in particular touching Gonzalez in the worst way this round. Sandra working the pocket like a champ - chopping the hook in behind Eiza's right elbow; pulling brunette's head down for control inside; fitting Gonzalez for shrugging right uppercuts and clouting hooks uptop. Eiza glassy-eyed, fighting out of the crossed arm sluggishly, answering back only in spots...she's getting banged up, tied up, and pushed off as Sandra continues to grind away. For two minutes, girls fight on that little patch of sand at the ropes - foreheads rubbing as fighters shift and bob, Kubicka just beating the tar out of Gonzalez. Eiza tough as rawhide - sticking her head in close and absorbing, but OH the licks she's taking, Sandra just dishing it out thick and methodical, claiming heavily against tummy, flanks, jugs and head - swatting and cuffing away both hands; bumping her shoulder; wearing her latina down. Dying moments, Gonzalez bobbing in crossed arm, taking her umpteenth cuffing hook under the elbows, when she suddenly erupts into chopping hook, claiming Kubicka to chin! Blonde girl suddenly destitute, sagging back into ropes all how-could-you eyes...she's hurt and Eiza takes over! Gonzalez wades in - left hand pushing Kubicka's face to bend her back over top rope; right hand chopping for chin...BLONDE GIRL DOWN! Sandra on all fours - ref bodying Eiza off and warning her for rough-house, she’s up at 8 but SHABBY! ON COMES GONZALEZ! Kubicka reaching arms desperately over Eiza's shoulder to impede the brawling overhand rights and lefts coming in - brunette just swinging in the punches, looking to overwhelm her blonce at bell. Ref jumps in, pulling Gonzalez off as Kubicka slides sideways into her corner on borrowed legs!

R5: Eiza intent, stooping to backhand the jab against Sandra’s muscular midriff, then straightening to pat the face. Kubicka blinking, getting touched up, but she stays with the program, jabbing back at Gonzalez, stuffing straight right hands into those golden globes. Down the stretch, both girls lean into hard right hands, missing, Eiza able to twist in to the sharp left hook from her thigh to beat Sandra to punch and DOWN GOES THE BLONDE! Kubicka on her back, looks a goner, but she grimly rolls to her knees, clambers to her feet. Ref lets it continue. Dead blonde walking—Gonzalez pouncing in with the stabbing jab, puts Sandra ropeside then lets her hands go. Big Bad Brunette Beat Down as Kubicka covers up, head jerking back from her gloves as Eiza’s fists beat in between the guard or around the sides and THE REF JUMPS IN! Sandra out on her feet, bleeding from nose, lolls in the official’s arms as Gonzalez climbs the corner ropes in triumph. TKO5 for Eiza Gonzalez.

After: Bitterly fought, high-energy fight was never going to go the distance. Eiza increasingly showing she's put the pieces together to join the Tiffany elite!
