Third placement match: Michelle Tan vs Hayley Lee

MICHELLE TAN (28, 5'4, Free agent, 1-2)

HAYLEY LEE (27, 5'6, Free agent, 1-3)

Michelle tidies her ponytail during the break and wears the same blue sports bra and underwear she wore before, complete with red gloves. Hayley now has her hair tied in a simple ponytail after the break, still wearing the same white sports bra with black underwear, complete with blue gloves. Upset with the earlier loss, Hayley is determined to redeem herself in the second fight to avoid being the biggest loser.

Round 1:

Still feeling the effects from their previous fight, the girls take a measured start and carefully approach each other. Michelle tries to stick close to her taller opponent but Hayley fends off the attack with her longer reach, making Michelle think twice before she tries anything. Michelle persists and Hayley eventually slips, allowing Michelle to swipe left and body hook her. Hayley immediately breaks into an open space and smacks a right straight to stop Michelle in her path. Michelle backs off for a moment but quickly recollects herself, charging once more with a quick right hook that connects, but Hayley staves off an uppercut. The effects from the earlier TKO begin to show as her follow up punches lack precision, often landing on Michelle’s mitts and shoulder. Bell rings and Michelle takes the round with a narrow margin.

Round 2:

Michelle steps up her aggression, closing in the distance as soon as the bell goes and pressures Hayley into the ropes. Arms over head, Hayley blocks the punches directed at the head at the expense of taking body shots. However, as Michelle’s punches slack off, Hayley returns with a right hook that staggers Michelle. Michelle shakes the cobwebs off and fights even harder! She squats under a right swing and transfers all the leg power into a stiff uppercut into Hayley’s chin! BAM!

Hayley’s legs turn wobbly but manages to keep herself up. She throws her arms over the ropes to keep herself steady, leaving herself open to a flurry of blows by Michelle. Lucky for her, the bell clangs before Michelle can punish her severely. Hayley struggles into the corner with the help of the ropes.

Round 3:

Michelle goes in hot, scoring some blows to Hayley’s head but not able to put enough strength behind it to put Hayley down. Yet another rookie mistake of going all out too early. Hayley bids her time, choosing to distance herself from the swarmer as her breath catches up. She frustrates Michelle with her long reach every time Michelle comes close. The round ends with less action than expected but Hayley manages to pick up the round and recover with her tactical play.

Round 4:

Well-rested after the break, Hayley is ready to turn the tide. Still persistent to seal the win, Michelle haphazardly throws her hooks and crosses. Some lands, some misses. As Michelle commits a strong right cross. Hayley avoids it and manages to throw Michelle off balance with a simple parry before smacking leather all over her body! Michelle hurriedly switches into defensive mode but her rhythm is in a mess. In the midst of confusion, Hayley slips an uppercut from beneath that sends sweat and spit flying into the air! Michelle slumps down the ropes to a seat, still for 2 to 3 seconds before she starts stirring. Michelle struggles and manages to survive the fight by the count of 8. The onslaught continues for the remaining minute and Michelle struggles to survive. And survive she does! Hayley raises her arms up high as she returns to her corner. Without a doubt, Hayley takes this round but Michelle might still have a chance to turn things around.

Round 5:

Hayley capitalizes on the last knockdown and lights Michelle up with a flurry of punches early in the round. Michelle actively tries to guard and duck but lets a few slip pass despite her best efforts. If anything, she proves to have a strong chin, a quality critical to her in-boxing style. After a long minute of being on the receiving end, a fire lights up in Michelle’s belly and she begins to fight back! Michelle surprises Hayley with what would have been a match-ending uppercut if Hayley had not swayed back. While the uppercut barely grazes Hayley’s chin, it did shake her up a little. Michelle seizes the opportunity and bends Hayley sideways with a stiff body hook to the ribs. Sweat and spit flies as they smack leathers all over each other for the remaining 30 seconds. Hayley barely takes this round, clutching her ribs as she returns to her corner. Michelle notices it and intends to capitalize.

Round 6:

Right off the bell, Michelle moves in quickly and goes for the head. While focused on protecting her head, Hayley slowly let the guard to her ribs down allowing Michelle to land another hard hook to her body. Hayley hisses in pain and clinches onto Michelle to neutralize her assault while waiting for the pain to subside. The ref forces the girls to break and Hayley takes the first punch to Michelle’s face, dazing her! Hayley follows up with two swipes to the chin but Michelle quickly freezes her up with another body shot. Head wide open, Michelle pummels Hayley with a flurry of blows but Hayley gets saved by the bell. Michelle raises her arm as she basks in the cheers of the crowd. What a turnaround!

Round 7:

Both contestants breathe hard as they step out of their corner. Their sweat-matted hair sticking to their faces and their clothing darken with sweat. Hayley moves in and beats Michelle to the punch! It seems like Hayley has decided to fight fire with fire, forsaking any defense for an all out offense. Likewise, Michelle doesn’t seem intent on holding back, trading blow-for-blow in this war of attrition. Dull smacks of leather echo the arena as sweat mist off their faces. Just this round alone gives the journalist enough vivid shots for publishing. Last 30 seconds left and Michelle smacks another body hook into Hayley’s ribs, incapacitating her. Clutching her ribs, Hayley leaves her head open for two jaw-distorting blows that puts her down on the canvas. Groaning in pain, Hayley gets counted to 10! It’s over!

Post-match: Though it is not first place, Michelle breathe a sign of relief that she didn't end up being last. Dog-tired after the match, Michelle leaves the ring without any comments.
