Pre-Fight:

“Look, I don’t want to diminish Laura’s accomplishments,” says Sophie. “As few as they are… but she’s beaten two bantamweights. This is a pure lightweight fight, got it? If she’s struggling against the likes of Jenny and Aly then she’s in for a big surprise against a girl with my kind of power. Laura, welcome to your weight class, finally.”

“Soph is a good fighter, I’ve looked over a lot of her tape,” says Laura. “She’s going down tonight. Book it. Round four. Turner. Down. Out. Done. I’m a threat in this division and Turner is gonna see why tonight.”

R1:

Out comes Harrier in royal blue shorts, top, and glove. Turner, sporting blonde locks, opts for a maroonish-purple getup.

The two girls tap gloves and the fight is on. Harrier coming out in a much different stance, maybe something she’s implementing to deal with the stronger weight class. Right hand in position, but she’s letting her left hand hang low, pretty much inviting Sophie to come in. Bouncing on her toes.

The blonde does just that, and when she comes in, Laura stings her with a jab. Then she moves. Sophie tries to step in and once again Laura sticks and moves. Clearly trying to show off some of her speed in both her fists and feet, Laura trying to play elusive. Sophie varies it up, ducking the jab and coming into the body with a right. She lands it, but Laura’s right connects with a straight to the nose.

Turner in a bind as her head snaps back. Laura fires off a jab, then follows the retreating Turner and connects with another jab. Laura looking fluid and loose while Turner looking a little stiff. More of the same the remainder of the round with Turner only landing a few jabs here and there. Harrier meanwhile out-punched and outlander her 2:1.

Harrier up 10-9.

R2:

Laura coming out and utilizing her new stance well. Really taking it to Sophie who can’t seem to break through Laura’s jabs. She’s also dodging most of what Turner is throwing her way, frustrating the Brit to no end.

It’s only a matter of time until the frustrated Sophie makes a mistake, and when she does Laura is there with a quick-hitting one-two combo. Almost fighting like a flyweight, Laura is landing punches aplenty. It feels like she’s setting up for something bigger. Meanwhile, the Foxfire boxer needs to rally.

She starts with trying to get Laura to over-extend on a jab, which opens up a nice little right cross for Sophie. Then she works her jab, quickly snapping two off to end Harrier’s head snapping backwards. Harrier’s guard goes up and in comes Turner! The blonde tracking Harrier around the ring, landing a few nice cross-combos through the guard to end the round.

Turner squeaks out the round and we’re tied 19-19.

R3:

Sophie looks comfortable now. She stands proud in the middle of the ring and lets Laura dance around her. Sophie waits for her shot and then… POP. A right straight to the nose and Harrier is dazed! She covers up but Turner is wailing on her now. Fasts fists flying and Laura can’t escape.

She tries to step to the side, but Sophie hits her with a right hand that almost drops the Free Puncher. On her heels as she stumbles backwards to the ropes. She covers up as Turner continues to nail her with body shots. Eventually though, Harrier is able to lock up with Sophie and push herself from the ropes.

Back towards the middle of the ring but still close, Laura fires off two jabs then an uppercut as the round ends. Not enough to win, but enough to keep Sophie on notice.

Turner up 29-28.

R4:

The two fighters tangle up early, neither one concerned with punch ratios anymore. Both girls are trying to land some heavy blows. Sophie gets off a beautiful right hook. But Laura comes back with a right hand of her own.

Eventually Laura catches Sophie favoring one side and slips a left behind her guard. Turner stumbles back, but Laura is on her… following her as she’s on her heels. Laura gets in another left hook that nails Turner square in the nose and down she goes!!! The blonde hitting the canvas with a *THUD* and even sliding back a few inches.

It’s a legitimate knockdown, but Laura can tell it’s not close to a knockout. Turner takes a few seconds to collect herself then gets back up. Laura wants to go in for the knockout, but Turner too cognizant for that as she battles back and even gets off a nice uppercut to end the round.

Harrier up 38-37.

R5:

The older girl really finding her groove now as Sophie can’t quite find an answer to that jab. Laura making it really difficult for any offense for Turner, who has to settle for the occasional counter.

Most of the round is like that, a bit of a slog and not much offense. A bit of a letdown for the crowd after an exciting fourth round.

Harrier up 48-46.

R6:

Laura clearly willing to just fight defensively and keep Sophie at bay for the fight. She keeps jabbing away at her. Then she’ll slide free whenever Turner makes a charge. She does it again. Then she does it again. But then she does it one too many times. A mistake born out of inexperience.

When Laura goes to slide away, Sophie extends her right outwards and catches Laura walking right into her glove. Harrier stunned and a left hook-right uppercut combo is more than enough to drop her. Turner showing Laura her power, something she has plenty of compared to McCarthy and Michalka.

Harrier shaking her head, on all fours as she pushes her way up. She tells the ref she’s good to go and the fight is back on.

Sophie charges in, ducking and weaving Laura’s punches as Sophie hits her with a right that knocks Laura into the ropes. The blonde begins to tee off. Rights and lefts landing. She works the body, then when Laura’s guard drops up she goes with alternating rights and lefts up top. Laura’s hands fall to her hips. Her eyes are glazed over. She’s leaning up against the ropes heavily as Sophie continues to simply beat the fight out of her.

The ref rushes in and grabs Sophie, then waves their arms. That's it! It's over!

WINNER VIA TKO IN ROUND 6: SOPHIE TURNER

Post-Fight:

A disheartened Laura pleading with the ref, telling him she was fine to keep going. But when she looks back at the tape she’ll realize what a favor was done for her. She was in real danger of getting seriously hurt there.

Turner comes over and gives Laura a tap on the head and a hug, then whispers something in her ear.

“I told her she’s got a lot of heart,” says Sophie. “She’s competitive. And she’s savvy. She had me kind of sputtering offensively there for a bit. It’s weird to be the veteran compared to somebody seven years older than me, but she just went to the well too many times. I figured out what she was doing and then it was over. But she’s good and she’ll continue to get better, I’m sure.”

“You know, it sucks to lose my first PPV,” Laura says. “Bigger stage and certainly a bigger opponent. I mean… she’s got some oomph that I have to admit I wasn’t quite ready for. Definitely a tougher opponent than my other two fights, but as mad as I am at myself for losing this fight I just have to remember that I’ll keep getting better. Hopefully we can get a rematch, sometime.”
