Diana Korkunova vs Elisha Herbert (Results: Vassago; Story: Caspian)

Diana:
(25, 5’5, 26:7 BBU, SIRENs)

Elisha:
(23, 5’6, 4:1 BBU, BronzedOz Boxing)

BEFORE:

Elisha Herbert might have once been considered the lesser of the two Herbert twins but let’s not forget: the slender Aussie girl has beaten former Bantamweight champions Parkinson and Healy earlier this season, and of course, clinching the freakin’ ACB Bantamweight title after a KO7 victory over Olympia Valance back in March!

“I’m not underestimating her,” Diana Korkunova says with a curt nod in the pre-fight presser. “It’s true that I haven’t had much experience at Bantam, but I think our contrast in skills and build make up for it.”

When asked by the reporters why she’s been away from the ring for so long, this being her first and only fight of 2022, Diana responds: “Modeling has taken up most of my time, and the pandemic hasn’t helped with the borders. I’ve also been a lot wiser with my choice of opponents. Beating Elisha tonight will make a statement that there’s no such thing as ring-rust.”

Elisha of course having had the busier fight schedule, as the ACB champion hoists her title over her shoulder and continues speaking as though she were putting it on the line tonight:

“Diana was once the starlet of the Flyweight division, but fell to Katie back in 2019,” Elisha says, stifling a smile. “I don’t think she’ll fare much better tonight, title shot or not. I’m more than ready for her.”

Reporters too have a follow-up question for the Aussie model, one that makes her sister in the front row blush and go red-faced with embarrassment.

“So Diana beat my sister before. So the hell what?” Elisha says, narrowing her brows. “Just because the two of us are twins doesn’t mean I’m weaker or more of a push over.”

Sensitive spot right there, and Elisha turns her chin up during the face-off moments later, as Diana strides in close and plants her fists off the lean tummy and chin. Elisha’s slightly taller but not really by much, and if anything, Korkunova’s power is in that thicker frame of hers that would sure to make some difference.

Hours later, Diana is in one corner of the ring, pulling off her white singlet and revealing a lime-green bikini underneath. She’s wearing white gloves for tonight’s contest. In the other corner, Elisha has gone for a red string bikini, black gloves tightened around both fists as she signals her consent for this bout to start.

Referee waves for the bell and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:

Diana uses her speed to dominate the round by the numbers, roaring in and ripping away at Elisha’s slender frame, wanting to blast the champion right out of the water! Diana’s power is on display as her combos land to the arms and body, once or twice tagging Herbert off her side torso. But Herbert ain’t no slouch either, moving fast and keeping pace with the Siren, blocking with a firm guard and then torching Diana’s face back with lightning jabs. It’s a contrast of speed and agility versus power and drive, and for now, neither girl manages to make her mark!

ROUND 2:

More aggression from Diana, who thinks the solution to winning this is to rush in and turn up the heat. She keeps crowding Elisha into the corner, blasting and chugging away at her undercarriage. Herbert groans as she’s having trouble keeping up, those slams to her arms and off the side body starting to add up, unable to shrug off Diana for too long. But another of Diana’s hooks misses overhead, Elisha swerving back and then scooting back out of range, and the Aussie champ begins to return fire for the final minute, keeping pace with the Siren and targeting her face with that long-reach jab!

ROUND 3:

Opening minute and Korkunova refuses to give up the chase, hands swinging low and wanting to blow Elisha over in half to dominate. But a sudden flurry catches her clean on the lips and nostrils, blunting her attack. Elisha has found her calling card, going to the Siren’s face whenever Diana threatens to toss a low hook into her body. And Korkunova keeps taking it until her head gets shoved backwards from another right cross, Elisha then ripping in and tossing an uppercut into the base of her chin, making her see stars! Diana stumbles back for a dazed moment, before COLLAPSING onto her buttocks! It’s a third-round KNOCKDOWN for the ACB champ!

Diana has to wave the referee off as she slowly pushes herself back up by the count of 7, looking embarrassed. She reassures her corner that she’s ready to get back into the fight, but even after the bell rings, has trouble fending off more of Elisha’s steady jab combos sent towards her face and arms. Herbert in no hurry to end things, continues to dominate with her punches till the bell rings firmly in her corner.

ROUND 4:

Diana still on the retreat early, yielding precious real estate as Herbert head-hunts with precise and fast attacks, and Korkunova having to fall back and cover up in case her butt cheeks kiss the canvas a second and final time. Herbert looks on fire indeed, the Aussie brunette huffing and puffing away, slamming leather into every inch of the Siren and constantly pushing her back. But she doesn’t manage to finish Diana off completely, with Diana groaning but keeping her chin protected at all costs with those tight forearms. Late round and the Siren does manage to scare off her attacker with several counter-swings up high, which Herbert easily avoids.

ROUND 5:

Elisha pushing in, trying to finish the former Flyweight champ off. The Aussie girl is getting impatient, firing off several flurries off the top of the head in the first minute only to have them blocked by a fast-thinking Diana. Korkunova senses the opportunity to strike and counter-swings with a right hook that catches Herbert off the stomach, as more and more blows come landing in swift fashion. Herbert getting busted to the body, eyes wide and falling back instead, her guard lowered and leaving her open to another combination squeezed into her cheek and lips. Diana retakes her lost ground, but still has plenty more to cover if she wants to equalize!

ROUND 6:

More body assault as Elisha’s tummy begins to soak up the punishment. Herbert predicted her foe would go down soon enough, but Diana proves a tough nut to crack, even as she takes several glancing shots off the chin and forehead early this round. Diana grunting through the pain, found her winning strategy is to bully her way through and bang those fists off Elisha’s body - any inch of it will do - just as long as leather connects! Herbert lets out another dull grunt as her ribs take hook after hook tossed in, before the ACB champ has to clinch up to prevent a shutdown on the ropes. Diana crowding in, of course, using her bigger bulk to bully and keep Elisha pinned down, spare fists continuing to whack and nail the slender fighter off her body. Just before the bell rings, Elisha tries to push off and create space but it’s the wrong time indeed, gets CUFFED across the chin before another uppercut cuts down the center and SNAPS her head upwards! DOWN ELISHA GOES, having a little taste of her own medicine as she crashes down by the ropes! Could this be it?! Diana circling back to the neutral corner, all smiles at this stage of the fight. But no - Elisha’s getting back up, shaking her head and steadying herself on the ropes by the count of 8. We’re heading into the second half, folks!

softens Elisha up and she gets knocked down just before the bell as well.

R7: Back & forth action here, as Elisha struggles to keep the eager Diana off her case with plenty of fists shoved into the nose and lips. Diana focuses on the Aussie model’s body, catching her with another hook off the stomach before hitting another off the cheek, which sends Elisha spinning! Herbert’s in trouble, getting chased towards the ropes and eating up more leather as Diana aims for that second and final knockdown!! Herbert grunting, eyes glazing over as she takes another fist to the cheekbone, a stray uppercut catching her on the nostrils, which BUSTS her wide open! OUCH indeed!! That nose is surely broken, flooding her mouth and chest with flecks of red! And the referee has no choice but to pause the action, stepping in to cover up just as Diana was about to ROAR in with an overhand that would have surely ended the fight!

Crowds look disappointed at the pause, with the doctor quickly sliding in to examine Herbert’s rapidly swelling and reddening face. To her credit, the Aussie girl is already gesturing rudely at Diana from across the ring, making several attempts to step forward and back in the thick of the fray. But no! The doctor’s shaking his head, signaling to the referee that the injury and bleeding is too bad to let this fight continue in his good conscience! Oh, come on, ref! Say it ain't so! There goes the bell and both Herbert and Diana stand at opposite corners of the ring, looking confused, till the ring official steps in and declares the fight over - Diana Korkunova takes it via TKO7!

Official Decision: Diana Korkunova defeats Elisha Herbert via TKO7!

AFTER:

Crowds let their disappointment show, immediately booing and tossing used napkins at the referee and ring officials on their way out by the apron. As for Elisha, she’s still trying to physically get the fight restarted, making several paces towards Diana in the hopes that if they just started swinging again, the officials would have no choice but to sound the bell to continue.

No dice, however, as Herbert gets herded to her corner where her team can deal with that worsening wound. Meanwhile, not the way Diana wanted to make her comeback either, the Siren not smiling in her corner but of course, secretly relieved to have won this bout.

“This fight ain’t over,” Diana later says to reporters, looking cross. “I think I speak for Elisha when I say we’re gonna get back into the ring and finish up. You can bet on it!”
