Ana de Armas vs Caylee Cowan
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Ana de Armas
(33, 5’6, 10-3 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Caylee Cowan
(23, 5’6, 3-4 FCBA, Global Boxing Syndicate)

Pre-Fight: Next up, League of Mighty Women’s new addition Ana de Armas will be facing Global Boxing Syndicate’s new addition Caylee Cowan. They both had a rough time last year, so they will be looking to put that behind and end their losing streaks with a win to start a new chapter in their new stables.

As the pre-fight press conference starts, Ana addresses the audience first. “I was undefeated until last year and then suddenly I found myself in a losing streak, but it was against elite competition and it happened at a time when my previous stable was inactive. Now that I have the full support of the coaching team at the LMW, I am confident that I can put that rough patch behind me and prove that I belong to the elite level. I will start proving that by showing that Caylee is nowhere near my level! Sorry chica, but I’ll pile on your misery!”

Caylee doesn’t seem to be impressed by her opponent’s words as she begins to answer. “Of course we are not at the same level. I’m a young, up-and-coming star, who will rule the league one day, while you are just old news. I had a brief hiccup on my way to stardom, but I’ll get back to it, starting with beating up an old bytch like you!” It looks like that last bit angered Ana as she gets up and tries to get her hands on her opponent. Caylee isn’t going to just sit there and let it happen though. She is ready to turn it into a catfight, but both fighters are held back by their teams, including their respective coaches, Ali Landry and Jeri Ryan, who had their own rivalry back in the day. There is definitely animosity between both sides, but they will settle it in the ring as the press conference comes to an end without any further action.

It is fight night and Ana comes out to the arena first with her coach Ali beside her. She waves and blows kisses to the crowd as they cheer for her. Her demeanor becomes more serious once she enters the ring and goes through her warmup routine.

She is wearing a red sports bra with black trim, matching trunks, black gloves and shoes, while her hair is tied into double Dutch braids.

Caylee enters the arena next with her coach Jeri accompanying her. She is all smiles as she blows kisses to the fans cheering for her. However, her demeanor also changes as she steps into the ring and locks eyes with Ana. She mouths something at her opponent and judging by Ana’s reaction, it wasn’t something nice. Ali ends up having to calm her fighter down.

Caylee is wearing a white sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks, gold gloves and shoes, while her hair is tied into a loose ponytail.

Eventually, both fighters come to the center of the ring to listen to the referee’s final instructions, but neither of them goes for the touch of gloves. They keep staring each other down as they step back to their respective corners and we are now ready for 10 rounds of bantamweight action!

Fight: Round 1: They are both ready to get their hands on each other and they are not wasting any time as they both rush to the center of the ring when the bell rings. They both come in swinging and landing some good shots, but while they are both coming into this with aggressive styles, it is Caylee’s wild swings that do more damage and force her opponent to retreat. She might have expected an intense start, but Caylee extreme aggression proves to be too much for Ana early on. Caylee is chasing down the Cuban, not willing to let her get a breather, so Ana is just focusing on defending herself at the moment.

Caylee controls the action in this opening round as she puts Ana’s guard to test. The Cuban fighter is circling the ring, using defensive jabs and blocking her aggressive opponent’s punches with her guard, but Caylee still finds some openings here and there to punish Ana. As we enter the last thirty seconds, the American attacks with another flurry of blows. She lands a big hook up top, which forces Ana to raise her guard tight around her face, so Caylee switches her point of attack to the body with a couple of hooks to the ribs. Ana retreats, but she is backed into the ropes as Caylee continues to swing wildly. The Cuban finally finds an opening to land a counterpunch and get away from the ropes as the bell rings. Caylee grins at her and says “You are going down bytch!”

An impressive start to the fight by Caylee as she makes a statement to show that her aggressive style is back to its early effectiveness. Jeri congratulates her fighter and tells her to keep the pressure on her opponent. On the other side, Ana seems visibly frustrated, so Ali tries to calm her down. “I know you want to get back at her, but you need to be patient. She will be aggressive from the start in the next round too. Just move her around and let her tire herself out as you look for counterpunching opportunities. You can be the aggressor later on.”

Round 2: Caylee doesn’t want to waste any time and goes directly for the center again to trade some punches, but Ana isn’t as willing to do the same this time, so she starts circling around. Caylee is on the hunt and she is still swinging, but she is not finding as much success in this round, because Ana is more focused on avoiding her attacks instead of getting into exchanges. Caylee still lands some good punches, but she seems to be wasting too much energy for little gain. Ana, on the other hand, seems to be content with landing a few counter punches, while slowing down the pace for the time being.

As Caylee gets frustrated, she starts to get a bit too careless with her swings and it is exactly the opening that Ana has been waiting for. The Cuban lands a one-two combo up top that stops Caylee in her tracks and then a couple of shovel hooks to the body drives her back to the ropes. She is still fighting back though, so they trade a few solid hooks until the bell rings, giving the fans an exciting finish to an otherwise quiet round.

Ana recovered from the shock of the first round and won this round on points, albeit a close one. Caylee is the one looking frustrated this time during the break, but Jeri tries to calm her down. “You are still in control of the fight. She is more alert now and she looks for openings, so you have to be careful and attack with intent. Don’t give up your aggression, but keep it in control!”

Round 3: Caylee is still the one pressing forward as the third round starts, but it is clear that she is not as aggressive with her approach as before. Ana stays in defense, looking for opportunities, but she is not finding many as Caylee is being less reckless in her attacking this round. The first minute goes by without much action, but around the half point of the round, Caylee cuts the angle and gives the Cuban a push to trap her at the corner. The American lands a couple of hooks to the chin, forcing Ana to defend. Caylee goes to the body with a lead uppercut to lower Ana’s guard and go up top with another hook. Things aren’t looking good for Ana as she realizes that her defense won’t hold up for long against this barrage, so she decides to fight her way out with some body shots. Caylee keeps swinging, but she seems to be losing steam after those body shots. Ana takes this opportunity to hit her opponent with a jab-straight combo and then she gives her a push to create some space, so that she can get out of the corner. Caylee stays on the attack, but she does not find a similar opportunity for the reminder of the round.

Another close round, but Caylee does enough to edge her opponent this time to go on top again on the scorecards. Caylee is still in control, but she is breathing heavily during the break, so it is something to keep an eye on as we are not even at the half point, yet.

Round 4: We are back to an action packed start to the round as Ana joins Caylee in being aggressive as she seems to think that now is the time. It might have been a bit premature though as Caylee is still going strong and getting the better of the exchange. She lands a few good combinations up top, while Ana focuses her attack on her opponent’s body. After a long exchange, they disengage as both want to take a breather, so they start circling around each other. This period passes by with single punches or short combinations from either side.

As we go into the second half of the round, Caylee initiates another lengthy exchange with both fighters willing to stand and trade. The American opens up with a one-two combo and follows it with hooks, while Ana focuses on the body shots once again with a few nasty shovel hooks. As they continue to trade leather, Caylee starts to feel the effects of the body shots as well as the energy she expended in the earlier rounds. She ends up having to fall back and lower her guard to protect her body. Now, it is Ana turn to be on the hunt as she chases her opponent with a double jab-straight combo right on the nose. Caylee clinches with the Cuban to take a break from the beating she is receiving, but it is short-lived as Ana pushes her and then scores with a hook to the chin. As she stumbles backward, Caylee gets saved by the bell.

The momentum shifted significantly in this round as it started highly competitive with Caylee on the winning side, but ended with Ana dominating the action to become the clear winner of the round and tying up things on the scorecard.

Round 5: Caylee starts the fifth round with an unusually defensive style as she doesn’t seem to have recovered enough during the break. Ana takes the initiative as a result, but she is still being cautious with her approach. They go for shorter exchanges as Caylee keeps her guard closer to her body and starts circling as the Cuban hits her with short combinations. Ana seems to be content with slowly depleting her opponent’s energy with these short skirmishes as they are only at the halfway point of the fight and it looks like Caylee will be having more and more trouble as the fight goes on. Knowing this and hoping to catch her opponent by surprise, Caylee springs back to action as she comes in swinging with a hook. The first one is on target, but as she gets sluggish with the second one, Ana ducks and lands an uppercut to the midsection that doubles Caylee over. She quickly clinches with her opponent to take a breather and the referee ends up having to separate them in the end.

As the round progresses Ana keeps picking apart Caylee’s defenses and the American ends up clinching to pass the time, hoping to survive another round. Just as she makes it to the final minute of the round, she tries to clinch again after a few body shots, but Ana gives her a push and then lands a big uppercut to the chin. Caylee takes a step back, but she is on shaky legs. Ana scores with a jab-straight combo that forces Caylee to raise her guard up tight, but Ana goes back to the body with a massive liver shot that drops Caylee onto her knees! Ana goes over to the neutral corner as the referee starts the count! 1…2…3… Caylee is on her knees, doubled over with her forehead touching the mat 4…5… she raises her head while still clutching her midsection and having trouble breathing 6…7…8… looks like she is trying to rise on one knee, but she doesn’t have the energy to do so and she spits her mouth guard 9…10! Caylee is still on her knees as the count passes by. It is over!
Official Result: Winner by KO in round 5, Ana de Armas!

Post-Fight: Ana quickly comes over and stands tall over Caylee, who is still on her knees. “See chica, I told you that we are not on the same level as you end up on your knees, looking up to me!” Caylee looks frustrated as she wants to answer back, but she is not in the condition to do so. Both Jeri and Ali enter the ring and come over to check the situation. Jeri addresses Ali instead of Ana “The fight is over, Caylee needs to be checked. Tell your fighter to back off!” Ali snaps back at her “Maybe you should teach your fighter to shut her mouth if she cannot back it up!” The intense moment between the coaches gets interrupted as the medical team gets in between them to check up on Caylee. Ali and Ana go back over to their corner to celebrate her win, while the medical team tends to Caylee with Jeri watching over them. Thankfully, Caylee is fine other than her bruised ego, so she leaves the ring quietly with her coach.

Ana gets her hand raised by the referee and then takes the microphone to address the fans. “She is an aggressive fighter who can cause problems for others, but as I said before the fight, she is not at my level. I just needed to get back on track with this fight and I did. I’m looking forward to continuing to improve my skills with my new coaches and keep winning fights!” She blows a final kiss to the fans before leaving the ring with her LMW team.

As these two fighters with recent struggles faced each other, only one of them was going to change their fortunes and it was Ana, who got the win and put a stop to her losing streak, while adding another loss to Caylee’s. However, Caylee is a young, strong fighter with an aggressive style, so she still has time to turn things around as she keeps training with the coaching team at GBS.
