Yvonne: 39 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 72-33-0, 58 KO since 2008 Lookout! Boxing

Before: “Here are again, Vonnie. ” a cheerful Mary Elizabeth Winstead says to Yvonne Strahvoski, “our 17th fight and our 5th tie breaker. I am SO excited at the prospect of being ahead of you again.”

As usual, Yvonne Strahvoski is more subdued: “May I remind you I’ve won 3 of those 4 tie breakers so I am looking forward being the one to be ahead of you—again.”

“Plus winner gets to pick the postfight ice cream,” Mary reminds her. “And this time I am fighting for Cherry Cordial.”

Yvonne shook her head: “No! Cookie Dough is so much better. I know you like it, you’re just too stubborn to admit it.”

“You will see the Light when I scoop out the Cherry Cordial and add whipped cream,” Mary said dreamily.

“And we still have those other matters to discuss,” Yvonne said, “I want you as my French Maid for the whole week this time. After all, when I beat you, I’ll be the new Lightweight Champion.”

“That’s fine, but it will be YOU wearing the costume and waiting on ME hand and foot.” Mary said, “but you can polish the Lightweight Title Belt.”

“I would prefer to wear it and let you do the polishing,” Yvonne retorted.

“Well, we better get to the ring, I can’t wait any longer,” Mary announced.

“Neither can I!” ageed the blonde Australian.

The crowd was roaring with excitement as Yvonne and Mary made their ring entrances and shed their robes. Yvonne was in a light purple shiny one piece swimsuit with dark purple gloves and boots (light purple laces). Mary was in a red Retro one piece swimsuit with white polka dots. She wore red gloves and boots with white laces. Yvonne’s hair was pulled back in a battle braid. Mary’s bobbed hair was loose, but wetted down. The ring instructions went smoothly. The fighters touched gloves and went to their corner. The bell rang…

R1: Mary and Yvonne move crisply to mid ring and start punching. They work head shots early with Yvonne scoring well to MEW’s jaw and Mary clipping Yonnie solidly to the chin. Then Mary turns to hooks into the midsection. Solid blows smack against Yvonne’s ribs and stomach. Yvonne tries to continue her head wok, but the steady whacking of her belly doubles her forward. Yvonne pulling back and then finally goes after Mary to the stomach with hooks of her own. Two now trade steadily to the body until the bell. Close one, but judges give the round to Mary.

R2: Out they come and it is Yvonne who strikes first with hooks that crunch deep into the Winstead abs. Mary tips forward at the waist and Yvonne fires uppercuts into Mary’s exposed chin. Mary put on her heels, backing out rapidly as she tries to cover retreat with her jab. Yonne now bouncing solid leather off sides of Mary’s head. Mary now crouching, mitts up around her head an trying to ride out the storm. Bell rings. Mary looks a bit unsteady as she returns to her corner. Yvonne smiling at the sight. She knows she’s won this round wide.

R3: Mary comes out and goes right at Yvonne, Vonnie smacked hard to the jaw with lefts and rights, but she responds with a hard blow to Mary’s chin. Mary reels back as Yvonne pushes forward now pounding away at Mary’s torso. Mary feeling the pressure, but lashes back with a head swiveling right to Yvonne’s jaw. However Yvonne doubles Mary up with counter hook deep into Mary’s gut. Mary falling back as Yvonne again bounced shots off the brunette’s head, but Mary stabilizes and fights back with her jab. Yvonne’s attack stalls as her breasts and face are worked over. Yvonne fights back and the two battle in close to the bell. Another lose round, but this time it is Yvonne who wins it on the judges’ cards.

R4: Yvonne and Mary again out promptly, but Yvonne working Mary to the chin and jaw as MEW tries to come in. Mary tries to circle, but Yvonne then comes right at her. Overhand right catches Mary right between the eyes. Mary recoils, her legs shaking and Yvonne presses her. Mary has her gloves up around her head and these block Yvonne’s efforts. So Vonnie goes to the ribs and works them hard. Mary trying to push her back with the jab, but Yvonne maintains pressure with hooks into belly and breasts. Round ends in a wide win for Yvonne Strahovski.

R5: Mary had three rough rounds in a row and comes out determined to do something about that. MEW very fast from her corner and gets to Yvonne first with a ripping uppercut to the chin that sends the Aussie blonde stumbling back. Mary quick to follow up, battering Yvonne with rights and lefts to the jaw. Yvonne trying to protect her head while ducking away from the rampaging Winstead. Mary trying to cut off Yvonne and leads to a running battle that has the crowd on its feet cheering,. Yvonne ducking, dodging, but forced into the ropes. However, Yvonne has delayed this so long that Mary gets in only a few punches as Yvonne is pinned on the strands before the bell rings. Mary steps back and seems pleased as a shaken Yvonne peels herself off the ropes. MEW has come back and won this round wide.

R5: Yvonne comes out aggressively this round as she looks to regain control of the bout. Yvonne pounding away at Mary’s midsection in the early going. Mary backs up. As Yvonne steps forward and fires a big right at Winnie’s head, but MEW ducks and the shot whistles passed her ear. Then BOOM! Mary brings her own right CRASHING into Yvonne’s chin AND DOWN GOES STRAHOVSKI! Yvonne sprawls on her back as Mary trots to the neutral corner. Yvonne rolls to all fours as the referee counts. Yvonne manages to beat the count at “EIGHT!” Mary seen giving a ‘Oh, well!” shrug and then coming back at Yvonne as soon as the referee waves her in. Yvonne not giving Mary anything in the remaining as she goes into a tight defense and Mary has to settle for punching Yvonne’s flanks and shoulders. Round to Mary Winstead wide with the first knockdown going to her side of the cards.

R6: Mary and Yvonne get in close and personal as the new round begins. They are cross the ring quickly and start pounding away to the body. Breasts, rib cages and bellies are hit by short right and left hooks as the two set their feet for greater leverage. Sweat dripping down their faces as the intensity rises. Two are nearly touching foreheads and looking at each other straight in the eye. Crowd is again on its collective feet cheering them on. Stays very even until the final minute when Vonnie gets to Mary’s solar plexus. MEW hit over and over until she staggers back on trembling legs. Yvonne bores in. Mary lashes back with desperate jabs to halt the advance. Yvonne starts to circle, but runs out of time. However Yvonne Strahovski emerges with a narrow win on points.

R7: Mary on the attack as soon the bell sounds. She shoots across the ring and tries to batter Yvonne back into her own corner. Yvonne fighting back hard. Hard punches as heads are swiveled and chins knocked back, thighs shudder as the impacts shot through straining bodies. Then Yvonne suddenly steps to one side as Mary is lunging forward and Mary finds herself hitting empty air. Yvonne BLASTS Mary’s no exposed jaw with a blockbuster right. Mary knoked sideways, tries to regain her balance and Yvonne brings in a CRUNCHING right/left to MEW’s chin. DOWN GOES WINNIE WINSTEAD! Mary toppling onto her back, lands with a thud and lies there stunned. Yvonne savoring the sight for a few seconds then heads for the neutral corner. Referee moves in as Mary pushes herself into a seated position, shaking her head, trying to clear the fog. Counting is rising as chants of “VONNIE! VONNIE! VONNIE!” Can be heard amid the crowd bedlam. Mary now begins to rise and makes it to her feet JUST in time to beat the count. Yvonne stomps her foot in frustration. Mary gives Yvonne a defiant “I’m-still-here!” wave as the referee waves the challenger back in. No defensive cover-up for Mary Winstead. She charges out to meet to Yvonne and they have a sharp exchange, but Mary does manage to duck and dodge the head shots Yvonne throws to try to finish this. Mary hangs in with tenacity as the round ends. But Yonne Strahovski got the knockdown this time and she wins the round by a wide margin.

R8: Mary and Yvonne staring at each other across the ring as the ring while their corner crews work on them. Bell rings and out they come. Yvonne moving faster this time as Mary seems willing to wait for her blonde archrival to come to her. However, just as Yvonne gets into range and starts to throw that big right hand—MARY STRIKES FIRST! Big, booming Winstead right CRACKS off Strahoski chin and then a BLASTING left uppercut connects with the chin. Yvonne reeling from the blows, is DRIVEN into the ropes s FURIOUS MEW leather storm. Yvonne buries her face in her gloves but body shots send her into the ropes. Now Mary Winstead goes into a FRENZIED attack on Yvonne Strahvoski’s body. Vonnie shuddering, gasping, gurgling under Mary’s relentless bombardment. Mary lashes away over and over, but Vonnie is seated in the ropes, bracing her face and somehow enduring the fearful punishment she is taking. Bell finally soynds to end Yvonne’s ordeal and she has to grasp the top rope to steady herself before leaving for her corner, Mary stands there looking awed that Yvonne is still on her feet, though with a definite wobble in her walk. Mary turns away and heads for her own corner as she has scored a SHUTOUT over Yvonne for this round.

R9: Frantic work in the Lookout corner to patch Yvonne up for the next round. Yvonne comes out slowly, with a very defensive look, crouching with gloves up tight around her head. Mary approaching her warily and starts to put out probing jabs as she circles around Yvonne. Yvonne trying to move with Mary, but she is step or so behind. Mary snapping in provoking jabs to Yvonne’s breasts and ribs. Yvonne trying to keep up, but she is taking more and more o Mary’s leather especially when Mary goes to the belly with deep whacking hooks as the round progresses. Yvonne not answering much at first, keeping that very defensive look, but she is too proud a fighter not to counter. Sure enough, late in the round, Yvonne suddenly erupts with strikes to Mary’s belly. Mary surprised at first, knocked back on her heels and Yvonne eagerly moves to strike at MEW’s jaw. But in doing so, Yvonne as dropped her high guard, and Mary swings for the fences with another big right hand. KA-BOOM! Yvonne hit HARD to the jaw and she spins around, her legs become entangled. DOWN GOES YVONNE! Yvonne is on her chest, cheek agaiunst canvas as though she has decided to take a nap. Mary hurries to the neutral corner and looks back with clear anxiety. Referee counts, but Yvonne can only push herself up on her right elbow. She looks over at Mary and lets out a sigh before dropping back to the canvas.

“EIGHT!....NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT”

THE WINNER AND STILL FCBA LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION: MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD BY KNOCKOUT IN THE 9TH ROUND!

After: Mary wearily raises her arm in victory, but she keeps a close, worried eye on Yvonne who is being helped back to her corner. As soon as Mary’s gloves are removed and her robe thrown over her shoulder, she is across the ring to check on Yvonne.

“Vonnie, are you OK?” Mary asks, concern in her voice,

Yvonne is seated on her stool: “No, I lost and you know how I hate that.”

Mary seems reassured by the snark and gives Yvonne a hug: “You are my best opponent—ever. It always feels so good to beat you.”

“Enjoy it while you can, I plan on beating your ass next time and you get to feel as lousy as I do now,” Yvonne replies.

“Well, of course I will, but that’s only if you win next time. In the meantime, you should cal me when you are ready for ice cream. You are going to love Cherry Cordial. Plus the French Maid costume is going to look SO cute on you.”

“I’ll call when I’m ready,” Yvonne says then adds, “good job Winstead. You are my best opponent, too.”

Mary smiles happily and gives Yvonne a parting hug before trotting away. Yvonne heard to mutter: “She IS my best opponent and I can’t wait to beat her to a pulp next time! Cherry Cordial?! Where does she get these flavors?”

Another great Winnie vs Vonnie battle,. Issue was in doubt until Mary came back from that R7 knockdown to score R8 shutout. Even then Yvonne was still fighting in the 9th, but trying to counterattack late in that round proved a a mistake. Mary able to pierce Yvonne’s defenses and land a big KO right. Mary wins the 5th Tie Breaker with Yvonne and goes ahead in the series 9-8, but fans already anticipating the NEXT encounter as one of the best rivalries in FCBA history rages on.
