Florence Pugh vs Chiara Nasti
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Florence Pugh
(26, 5’4, 6-2 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Chiara Nasti
(24, 5’4, 13-8 FCBA, Italians Boxing Better)

Pre-Fight: Two rising flyweights will have a showdown next as League of Mighty Women’s Florence Pugh takes on Italians Boxing Better’s Chiara Nasti. Florence will be looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses, while Chiara will be looking to put together a winning streak to continue to improve her ranking.

Florence seems to be in a positive mood despite her recent struggles in the ring as she starts off the pre-fight press conference. “I’m not worried about my current form. I think I fought well, but came up short against tough opponents lately. I keep working hard and continue to improve my skills, so I hope it will make the difference in those decisive moments of a fight.”

Chiara looks confident as she dismisses her opponent’s chances in her address to the audience. “She can train all she wants, but we have seen that she is not an elite fighter in her last couple of fights. I can do better than my stablemate, so if Joey (King) can knock her out in five rounds, I’ll do it in four!”

Florence enters the arena first on the fight night as she is accompanied by her coach Gillian Anderson. She smiles and waves to the fans as they cheer for her, while she makes her way to the ring. Once inside, she goes through her warmup routine.

She is wearing a black sports bra with gray trim, matching trunks, gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into a ponytail.

Chiara enters the arena next with her coach beside her. She walks towards the ring confidently and blows kisses to the fans cheering for her. As she enters the ring, she locks eyes with her opponent and bangs her gloves together, mouthing “You are going down!”

She is wearing a light pink sports bra and matching trunks with white gloves and boots, while her hair is also tied into a ponytail.

Both fighters come to the center of the ring for the final instructions by the referee and then Florence goes for the touch of gloves, but Chiara leaves her hanging. They step back to their respective corners and we are now ready for 10 rounds of flyweight action!

Fight: Round 1: Once the bell rings, both fighters meet up in the center again, but this time to trade some leather. They are both willing to stand and exchange as they find success with a few shots early on before they start using their guard to block incoming shots. Chiara is the more aggressive fighter in the exchange and it pays off as she starts to overwhelm Florence with her combinations. A double jab-straight combination followed by a hook to the chin finally drives Florence back as she ends up switching to a defensive approach.

Chiara controls the action for the rest of the round as she keeps the pressure on Florence by forcing exchanges, in which she ends up landing cleaner punches. The Italian boxer tests her opponent’s chin a couple more times in those exchanges, but Florence is not troubled by them. Still, it was a dominant performance by Chiara in this opening round, while Florence’s struggles continued.

Round 2: Gillian told Florence to utilize her mobility and the Brit is doing just that in the early moments of the second round. Chiara still maintains control of the center of the ring as she chases her opponent down, but it is Florence who is initiating short exchanges as she steps in and out of range, keeping her feet moving. Chiara occasionally scores with some clean punches, but Florence is landing the higher volume in this round.

As the round progresses Chiara starts to get frustrated with her opponent’s hit-and-run tactics, so she ups her aggression to force a longer exchange. She cuts the angle as the Brit circles around and goes for a big swing, but Florence ducks and lands a couple shovel hooks to the body. As she comes up, she avoids another wild swing and lands a one-two combo up top. However, third time's the charm for the Italian as her third wild swing connects. She follows up with a jab-straight combination of her own, but then Florence steps back before getting in more trouble. The rest of the round goes without any significant action and Florence still narrowly wins the round and ties things up on the scorecard. However, it is Chiara that still looks as the more dangerous fighter after two rounds.

Round 3: Florence increases the pace once again, trusting that she can outmaneuver Chiara with her movement in and out of range. She keeps scoring with short combinations and while Chiara answers with single punches from time to time, the Italian is getting frustrated with her opponent’s tactics. Out of frustration, Chiara is also expending energy chasing her opponent down and swinging wildly, which could become an issue if the fight goes into later rounds.

After two frustrating minutes, Chiara finally catches a break as Florence walks right into the Italian’s right hook. The Brit looks shaken by the unexpected impact, so she raises her guard and steps back, but Chiara is on the hunt now. She throws a double jab-straight combo, which gets blocked by the Brit’s guard, but still forces her further back towards the ropes. Chiara switches levels and lands a couple hooks to the ribs, then goes back up for a one-two combo that backs Florence to the ropes. With her opponent on the ropes, Chiara gives all she got to try to finish it early. She throws a barrage of hooks to the body and the face, but while Florence defends well with her guard, Chiara still does some damage. Florence finally clinches with her opponent to stop the attack, but after the referee separates them, Chiara quickly goes back on her furious attack. Florence ends up backed to the ropes, trying to block or evade incoming punches again. Chiara throws everything she got, landing some good hooks and rocking her opponent, but the bell signals the end of the round.

Florence survives this round and slowly walks over to her corner for a much needed rest, but she will need to find an answer quickly or else it won’t end well for her. Dominant display from Chiara to win the round, but she is breathing heavily as she walks over to her corner, so she needs to be careful about her work rate in these earlier rounds as well.

Round 4: We have a much slower start to this round as Florence circles the ring with a defensive posture, trying to recover from the previous round. Chiara is not taking the initiative either, as she is still breathing hard and looks a bit sluggish as she slowly follows her opponent around the ring. Florence utilizes her defensive jab when her opponent gets closer and since Chiara is not as aggressive as in the previous rounds, she is able to keep her at bay. There are a few, short exchanges, but not much damage done either way.

Very little action in this round and Florence barely edges her opponent in total punches landed to win it. Both fighters were basically utilizing active resting in this round though, so it might just be the calm before the storm.

Round 5: Looks like both fighters are rested and recovered as we get a much faster start to the fifth round with an exchange in the center of the ring. Florence scores with a one-two combo and Chiara answers with a nice hook. They continue to stand and exchange. After getting several of her punches dodged or blocked, Chiara finds an opening with a straight that lands directly on the Brit’s nose! Florence stumbles back and then a big uppercut from Chiara drops her down on her back! Chiara raises her fists as she walks over to the neutral corner and the referee starts the count. 1…2…3… Florence slowly sits up with a bloodied nose 4…5…she takes a moment to clear her head and then plants her hand on the sides, getting ready to push herself up 6…7…8… she gets up and raises her guard to show that she is ready to continue. After a quick check, the referee resumes the fight.

Chiara doesn’t want to give a break for Florence to recover, so she goes back to attacking right away, forcing the Brit to go on the defensive. The Italian is keeping the pressure on and firing away shots, but she is not finding success as Florence’s defense is holding up. Chiara goes for another big swing, but Florence ducks under and lands a massive overhand! A sudden turn of events as Chiara looks hurt and Florence goes on the offensive. She lands a double jab-straight combo to drive Chiara back and then goes to the body with a couple of hooks to the ribs to drop her opponent’s guard. Chiara looks stunned and Florence uses this opening to land a big right hook that turns and drops Chiara face first down to the canvas! Florence wipes her bleeding nose with her forearm as she walks to the neutral corner as the referee starts counting once again, but this time for Chiara. 1…2… Chiara turns her face to the side to get some air as she is still lying face down 3…4…5… she slowly pushes herself up and gets on her knees 6…7…8… she tries to get up on her feet, but she wobbles and falls back down on her butt 9…10! She doesn’t get a chance to try to get back up again as the count passes her by. It is all over after a dramatic fifth round swing!
Official Result: Winner via KO in round 5, Florence Pugh!

Post-Fight: Florence looks relieved and happy as she survived the early knockdown in the fifth round and came back to win it by the end of that same round. She goes over to her coach Gillian and hugs her as she must also be relieved to get her fighter back to winning ways after back-to-back losses. Florence then goes over to check up on her opponent, who is tended by the medical staff. Chiara gets the thumbs up from the doctor, but she is not in the mood for pleasantries, so she ignores Florence and leaves the ring with her coach.

After getting her hand raised by the referee, Florence addresses the fans. “It was a tough fight, she can really hit, but I made my comeback! I will keep working hard to make sure that this is not just a comeback for this match, but from my recent struggles in the ring as well. Thank you for your support!” She waves at the cheering crowd with a big smile on her face before exiting the ring.

It was a wild fifth round, but Florence took a much needed win in the end of it with a big comeback. We will see if she can start another winning streak after this. As for Chiara, she looked strong on the attack, but she got a bit careless in the end and paid dearly for it. She is still in a good position to make a push this year.
