Ariel Winter vs. Sarah Carter (Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Blonde/brunette battle between high-level flys sees three-time champion and Hall of Famer Carter square off with Winter, whose championship dreams continue to be frustrated. "This girl can fight," Sarah admits. "She's got excellent power for the weight, too. But, she's no Hall of Famer. And, tonight, she's IN with one."

"I may not be a Hall of Famer," says Ariel with a hint of a smile. "But if Sarah wants to know if I can BEAT Hall of Famers, have her ask Hayden."

ROUND ONE:

Winter aggressively after the blonde, coming forward, pressuring. Sarah's got some reach here and wants to use it, but Ariel's not having it. She's ALL up in the older woman's grill, working her over to the body, landing short, hard shot to the head, generally making Sarah as uncomfortable as possible, all while piling up points. Carter's tying up in spots, trying to slow some of this down, but, mostly to no avail. On the occasions where the blonde gets space, she also gets work done, using the jab, following on with right hands. But, most of the time, she's in the phone booth with the brunette, and that's absolutely NOT where the blonde wants to be. When the bell rings, there's no question about who's getting the points. It's Winter and wide to grab the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Sarah does what champions do. She adjusts. She's using the drop step, double and triple popping the jab, moving the feet, doing everything possible to keep Ariel off, and it works. Very, very well. NOW the blonde has what she wants. She's using her athleticism and boxing skill to take control of the proceedings. Winter's still trying to work forward, get inside, but, now, she's rarely able to do so. Instead, Carter's bouncin' and misbehavin', snapping that jab into the brunette's face again and again, following on with nice, hard right hands, and just generally giving the younger woman a thorough beating. Winter's plenty game, but she's getting very little done, save in a few spots, so, once again, when the bell rings, there's no doubt about it. This time, however, it's Sarah wide and we're even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Pattern now set. Sarah wants to work at range, while Ariel wants to close and bang, and, for the first time in the bout, both fighters get some of what they want in this stanza. Winter's moving the head and feet more, angling, working hard to get past Sarah's defenses. When she can, she goes to work on the body, hooking the ribs and tummy, then going upstairs for short, hard shot, before going right back down. Carter clinching in spots, slipping away in others, all in service of getting space so that she can get her box on. And, when the blonde's at range, she wastes no time getting the hands going, putting punches together, scoring points to offset what Ariel's able to do on the inside. It's close throughout, but, at the bell, it's Carter who's done a bit more and grabbed her first lead at 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Same again. Fighters working hard to get favorable terms, then working hard when they GET those terms, piling up as many points as possible. Once again, neither fighter is able to establish any sort of control, though both work very hard to do so. Instead, it's Sarah on the outside boxing effectively at times and Ariel in her grill banging effectively at others. Carter still showing plenty of spring in the step when she's got space, while Winter works hard at her body to take some of the juice out of the legs when they're working in the booth. Add it all up, and you don't have much space between the two fighters. Even efforts by both to steal the points late, leading to some sharp exchanges, don't exactly clear up much. But, when the bell does ring, Winter gets the points by the slimmest of margins and evens things at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

More of the same. Sarah at range, Ariel working forward, looking to close and bang. BOOM! Things change on a dime when Carter lands a nice jab then ROCKS Winter with a follow on right. Ariel is HURT and Sarah's all in DROPPING the brunette with a right hook! Carter BOUNCING to a neutral corner as the ref counts over Winter, who's flat on her back. Ariel sits up at six, gets to her feet at nine. Ref gives her the mandatory and ON COMES SARAH. Carter ALL IN, driving Winter back into the ropes and having at her. Brunette's got the body on sale, and Sarah's buying, hammering away, looking to drop the guard. BOOM! Right uppercut, ARIEL! Winter catches Carter dropping the head and now the BLONDE is hurt! Brunette blasts off the ropes sending Carter reeling with flurry after flurry of hard shot. And DOWN GOES SARAH! A BLISTERING straight right from Winter sends Carter to her back! Now, it's Ariel to a neutral corner and Sarah struggling to beat the count. Carter to her knees at seven. Gets to her feet, but STUMBLES BACK TO ALL FOURS and it's OVER! Sarah can't beat the count and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 in get off the canvas fashion is Ariel Winter!

AFTER:

Winter's got something to say in the post. "That's THREE Hall of Famers now. But, keep ducking me. ONE title shot, three freaking YEARS ago, and I've lost TWO fights since. But, keep DUCKING me. Just know that sooner or later, I'll get my chancew. And, I'll make no mistake."
