Dani reached towards sleeping Sophia, pulling the girl's left arm, pulling at her back to roll Bush onto her front. Dani rummaged in Sophia's bottoms, found the chit stuck to the girl's warm right glute. Bush made a soft moaning sound as her body registered the loss of the numbers, though the KO'd mind itself couldn't react.

It took Dani a minute to get to her feet, and when she did, she staggered about, certain she'd fall again. From deep in her psyche, a small, mean voice said: "Kick at her!" but Dani ignored it, now in control of herself once again. Swaying badly, she found her own chit, collecting it off the plywood foor en route to the door. Entering the four numbers, she heard the lock give with a hiss and click: she slid the side door open, and blinked into the hard white glare of car headlights.

Staggering out onto cold concrete, Dani looked around. The CW girls - Shiri included - were gobsmacked: no one had thought Harris would be coming out of that box. Dani stopped in front of Appleby, noticed the sling was gone. In its place, Shiri had been wrapping her right fist in a tight weave of guaze and tape.

"That for me?" Dani asked, wincing at the pain in her lips.

Busted, Shiri picked up her chin in defiance. "Yes, if you must know. Sophia was supposed to knock you out, leave you there; I'd come in after and put the finishing touches to your face at my leisure. I also had plans for your tits, biceps, lower back, and thighs. I'd have given you a good bruising, and you'd have been none the wiser. Maybe it's better this way. I like that you know."

"You won't," Dani growled, voice ice cold. Shuffling away from hated Shiri, Dani turned to Shannen. "I don't want her left in there overnight, Shan. She's hurt."

"Well, technically..."

"Screw that. I won: winners say."

Doherty shrugged. "Winners say." Then, raising her voice to Appleby's hench-wenches, Shannen barked: "You heard her - get that sack of crap out of my freight car. Take her home."

Appleby moved to the driver's side of her car, and raised her voice. "Bye, Dani. Be seeing you."

Harris couldn't answer, she was so livid - and truth be told, so hurt. She couldn't stand against Shiri right now. There'd be a better day.

"Dodged a bullet, D," Shannen said, unlocking the doors of the mercedes with a beep.

"You knew what she was planning to do?" Harris said, unable to keep the accusatory tone from her voice.

Shannen shrugged. "Once the fight's over I turn the camera off and leave. Sorry, but I'm not a babysitter."

Dani swayed in the sea breeze, dizzy from punishment, cold across her back.

Shannen's tone softened. "What are you waiting for? Get in, winner. I'll give you a lift."

Dani Harris did as she was bade, hugging her body as she sat into the leather bucket seat, and quickly drifted off to a tortured, pain-wracked sleep.
