PRIVATE TANK ENTERPRISES BOUT

Before: Read CB’s accounts for the context...*

(*From CB’s 9/24/2003 piece on Dani’s fighting career:

“Eclipsed by her red hot stablemate Cat Bell, Dani found herself shoved aside by the press who hounded her relentlessly about her relations with the ‘star of the stable’. The animosity between Cat and Dani continued to build until it exploded into an internal stable fight between the two…”)

...Technically a mismatch--bell with every physical and stylistic advantage, compounded bhy not having to drop down in weight for this impromptu contest--Dani needs to get close, stay low and work at chopping her foe down over the long haul. Bell in grey cottons sports bra, royal blue nylon jogging shorts, Dani in grey cotton stretch shorts, teal sports bra--private ring setting at the TE gym--refereed and scored by TE trainer Syren.

During R1: Cat easy and loose limbed , keeps her arms extende and sweeps over the top as Dani crouches, trying to edge on in. Fishel makes her move--and gets caught swatting left uppercut on the face that has her wobbly but moments into the fight. Desperate Fishel staggers ropeside, gloves at her moth, bending at the waist and trying to slip incoming--Bell bashing hard straight licks off the top of Dani’s head and temples has Fishel in big, big trouble. Down the stretch, cat loping backwards to absorb Dani’s rush from the ropes, nails Fishel another lashing left uppercut, then dives down behind a spearing right hand on the forehead that drives DanI to her back. Fishel slapping the canvas in frustration, struggles to beat the count at the bell. A concerned Syren is shrugged off by Dani in between rounds--Fishel refusing to consider  a first round stoppage.

R2: Shutout Cat Bell, Fishel still on shaky legs and Bell stays outside behind that piston jab. Dani can make Bell miss by crouching very low, countering is impossible. Bell patient, face impressive as she pumps jabs, looks for straight right hands--her fists finding the crown of Dani’s head or missing over the top as Fishel drops the points but gets her wheels back under her.

R3: Dani bobbing and weaving her way in, but Bell picks her up effortlessly, stepping back, nailing the slinging left uppercut, then chopping her right down and onto Dani’s face as Fishel wades into heartbreak. A punishing lead right hand pops loudly against Dani’s jaw and she’s hurt again, staggering sideways to the ropes with a cloudy look. Bell putting her punches together soon has Fishel in trouble, lefts and rights bashing down on the head and shoulders of the smaller girl and simply berating Dani to her knees. Syren pushes a bloodlusty Bell back and issues another 8 at Fishel swoons against the ropes. On comes Bell, touching Dani with the rangefinder, then bending into the heartless right hands that land with sickening cracks against Fishel’s skull, Dani reaching forward to clinch is once again battered to the canvas--lying momentarily on her stomach in a heap as Bell steps back. Incredibly, Dani hauls her nerveless frame to its feet--weaving badly on her hips and again Cat Bell steps in. Bell clipping a catspaw left hand across Dani’s face. Then dropping the right down on the eye with murderous accuracy, steps away and tell Syren to stop the fight. Dani charges back in off the ropes, wading into a clipping series of little left hooks and right hands, all shoulder and compsct delivery from Bell and Dani crashes past to land full out on her side. Bell sounds to save a battered Dani Fishel who is helped to her corner. Dani swelling up badly, pleads and threatens her case to Syren who is on the verge of stopping this one-sided session.

R4: A determined Dani Fishel comes out strong, staying low, coming out of the crouch to drag her tough left hook into bell’s breadbasket. Cat standing flat footed in front of Dani, blocking rather than using her legs and a toe exchange develops--Fishel pushing her way into Bell’s body and twisting into wide rights to the gut, or clubbing lefts that might land anywhere. Bell forced to lean in and down to get her head close to Dani’s, trying to tie Fishel up with mixed results. Down the stretch, Fishel stuffs a clouting right into Bell’s jugs and twists back the other way to land a haymaker left clean to the jaw as Cat is slow to lean back--BELL IS HURT! Cat stumbles back, hands at her waist, mouth open as she is harassed to the ropes by running lefts and rights from Dani --Bell just turning her shoulders trying to roll with the incoming. Cat leaning straight against the ropes, narrowly misses being tagged clean again at the bell as Dani ours it on, prompting Syren’s intervention.

R5: Cat continues to stand in front of Dani, jabbing at range, then tying up whenever Fishel gets inside. Fight slows down--Fishel struggling against the grappling arms of her opponent just to get leverage in the odd clubbing blow to the body--Bell trying to keep the weight on, riding the shorter woman and walking Dani into little left hooks from the waist before cinching up. Bell does most of the punching, frustrating Dani with the clinching and nailing her once in a while with that short left hand.

R6: Cat using the stick now, gets back outside and circles, stepping around her for as Fishel tries to cut  down the ring, once again, Dani can bob under the jab, but can’ do anything offensively--she’s forced to take risks to get close, and that cuffing left hand from the waist rejects her time and again. Down the stretch, Fishel gambling--Bell jerks her shoulder around in a tight left hook arc and bats Dani’s mouthpiece clear--Fishel out over her feet again is helpless. Bell squaring up, pounds a hard right hand straight down the pike that rocks Dani back half a dozen reeling step to the ropes--Fishel is helpless, legs locked and Syren won’t let it go on. Cradling Dani in her arms, Syren shields the beaten bantam with her body, restraining her from further abuse as Fishel sobs her protests into Syren’s shoulder. TKO6 Cat  Bell.

After: CB can write the fall out, if any from this bout, Fishel soaking up Cat’s hardest single punch of the fight in the first showed her trademark guts in extending the bigger brunette as far as she did, but repeated bombs early and often from Cat robbed Dani of any chance to really threaten. Despite not wanting to risk injuring her stablemate--the sheer ferocity and number of power stats from Bell revealed her desire to win this bout.

RESOLUTION

Posted by Cat, Dani… oh hell, everybody on 10/18/2000, 12:04 am, in reply to “Cat Bell vs. Dani Fishel”

As Cat throws a final lethal right hand down the pike, Mish Williams, Terry Farrell, and CB wince as it cracks flush on Dani’s face. Staggering to the to ropes Dani’s guard drops and her eyes are glazed. Cat hesitates before advancing, but it’s academic. Syren has seen enough and steps between them waving off the fight, shielding Dani as Cat moves forward to finish the job. Seeing this, CB rings the bell, signaling the end of the fight.

Despite being barely able to stand without leaning into Syren, Dani protests wildly, determination in her slightly unfocused yes. “You Can’t stop it. I can still go on, Plerase syren, I can’t quit now,” she pleads, but Syren’s mind is made up.

Hugging the beaten young woman into her, she says emphatically, “it’s over Dani. I’m not going to let you get seriously hurt over a stupid argument. I’m sorry, but it’s over.” Her tone leaving no room for contradiction, she waves Cat off.

Cat poised to finish the job, drops her gloves. She stands behind Syren looking over her shoulder at her defeated stablemate. The bloodlust of battle dissipating, she turns toward her corner and looks at Terry, who is already coming through the ropes. Mish, too is climbing into the ring. Terry puts her hand on Cat’s shoulder, saying, “You couldn’t do anything else. As long as she kept coming, you had to.”

Dani, getting her legs back under her after a few more moments, tries to push herself away from Syren’s grasp, determined that the fight isn’t over yet, but sees Syren’s face and relents. Slapping the op rope in frustration, she accepts the inevitable--Cat has beaten her. Before she change her mind, Mish grabs Dani’s left glove and cuts off the tape, removing the glove., Terry does the dame to Cat, and Syren steps back, letting the seconds do their jobs. The whole time Terry’s removing her gloves, Cat’s eyes are fixed on Dani.

Syren steps back and looks at the two of them, Cat her protégé, standing tall, almost without a scratch, save for the left hook that Dani had landed in the 4th round swelling her jaw somewhat. Dani, the rebel, face puffy from constant abuse and three small cuts around her left eye seeping slightly, eyes defiant. “Ok, you two. This is over, do you understand me? If there is any residual, I want you two to work it out, now!” And Syren turned and walked from the ring, climbing between the ropes.

CB held out his hand for her at the ring steps. Quietly he said, “I know that was hard hon, Probably one of the hardest things you’ll ever have to do.” He kissed her forehead. “If it means anything, I’m proud of you. I know I couldn’t have done anywhere near as good a job, that’s for sure.”

Syren looked at him, her eyes emotional. “Why did iut have o come to that?” Shaking her  head, she said. “I guess I’ll never understand…” and she and CB started towards the office. Phil Mehinn and the photographer were waiting by the office door. He had agreed that Syren and CB would have input into his account and approvasl ofg the final story. The price of an exclusive.

Meanwhile back in the ring, cat and Dani stood in front of each other, as Terry and Mish removed the tape from their hands. “Gonna have a few bruises, there, shrimp,” Cat said, breaking the ice.

Dani looked up at her with her head cocked slightly to the swide. “You’ll gave couple, too.”

Cat smiled, “You showed me something, one eye. Those were some pretty hard shots you took, and you finished on your feet.”

A ghost of a smile crossed Dani’s swollen face and across her split lip, “No shit! I’ll feel every one of them tomorrow.”

“I think you feel them now,” Mish observed as she toweled off Dani’s face, frowning apologetically when she winced from the pressure on her eye. “Oops. Sorry.”

“So you two got it out of your system now?”: Terry asked as she did the same to Cat.

Cat smiled, “She showed up, didn’t she?”

“that she did, with guns blazing, even if she did get knocked around pretty good,” Terry agreed. She looked at Dani with respect in her eyes. “What do you say, Dani?”

Dani smiled an odd little smile, looking at Cat. “I say that you’re a hell of an opponent. And anyone who says otherwise is an idiot…”

Cat inclined her head slightly at the compliment, “And I say that anyone who thinks you’re a weenie had better not step into the ring with you, or she’ll get a VERY rude awakening,” she said, absently rubbing her jaw. “You took my challenge and left it all in the ring, I can’t ask for more than thas.”

DanI cocked her head slightly again, With no trace of sheepishness, she said, “I knew it was uphill, but I was going to go until I couldn’t go anymore,” She looked Cat in the eye4. “All I want is your respect.”

Cat extended her hand to her short friend. “You’ve always had it. You just needed to respect yourself. You’ve got guts Fishel like you always had. Don’t forget that again, huh?”

“Count on it,” Dani replied, extending her own hand to her friend and rival. “You’ve earned everything you’ve gotten. And I’ll back you all the way. I’m sorry that I was jealous of your success.’

“Alright. Enough of this love fest. If you two kiss, I swear I’m gonna puke on you both,” Mish growled, a hint of humor in her voice,

Terry held an imaginary microphone in front of Cat. “Miss Bell, you’ve just beaten the piss out of a teenage girl 7 inches shorter than you. What are you going to do now?”

“I’m going to Disney World!” cat laughed, thrusting her hands in the air i9n a victory gesture.

“You can go to Disney World, I’ve been there,” Dani said “I’m going to take a nice warm shower, put some ice on my eye, and go to bed early. I’m exhausted!” She looked at Mish. “Coming second?”

Mish smiled at her friend’s returning humor, “I’m coming along, but only to see if you need help. I ain’t showering with you.” She turned with Dani and they walked towards the locker room. Ina quiet aside, Mish said, “Are you really OK? You got knocked around pretty sadly.”

Dani smiled. “Yeah, I’ll feel it tomorrow big time, but I was still standing. A Fishel never quits, you know…”

“Even when they should,” Mish replied with amusement in her voice.

Terry watched the two walk towards the locker room. “So that ends it?” she asked her victorious friend.

“Yeah, I think the old Dani will be back any day now. She does have guts, Terry. Can’t deny that,” Cat said as they, too, head towards the locker room…
