TESS VALMORE

The final installment of this PPV consisted of nine bouts. Seven ended in KO and five before the end of the fourth round. There were two championship bouts with the title changing hand in one

SWAN/ SIMS Sim’s getting back into the ring after an eleven month layoff. She needed a win, having lost four of her last five bouts. She didn’t get it. The first round was a real shootout with Swan going down once and Sims, twice. Sims recovered and took the next three rounds. Swan got back into the fight in the fifth and won the the next four rounds including another knockdown of Sims in the sixth. It was apparent going into the ninth that Sims needed a knockout to win the fight. Sims did win the last two rounds but didn’t go for the KO and lost the fight on a decision

TORV/ MINNELLO There was actually more excitement in the pre-fight than there was once the bell rang. Minnello danced around poking out pesky but light jabs as Torv walked her opponent down. In the final minute Torv caught Minnello with a hook, a right uppercut, a swatting left and finally vicious shot behind the elbow and the fight was history as Minnello was counted out gut shot

RYAN/ HURLEY A pair of cougars in the ring. Hurley, 45 vs Ryan, 42. Ryan sadly trying to keep her FCBA career going, had lost four of her last five. Hurley hadn’t won a fight in two and a half years. It was an OK fight. Ryan took the first two rounds but Hurley managed to deck Ryan in the third and take the fourth. After that, it was all Ryan , who in the seventh set Hurley up with a sidearm to the stomach, a couple of jabs , another side arm and then unloaded one of her famous rights that put Hurley deep into dreamland. It was a good win for Ryan but we doubt she has much of a future remaining

BLOODGOOD/ HENSTRIDGE I was sure that Henstridge was going to win this fight but after the first four rounds I wasn’t even sure Henstridge was going to last the ten. It was all Bloodgood for the first four rounds, with Henstridge looking shabby at the end of fourth. Somehow, Henstridge rallied to take the sixth and in the seventh broke out the big guns we knew she had. A right to the stomach took all the air out of Bloodgood and she was easy pickings after that. A couple of punches later, Henstridge landed another gut shot, a final big right to the chin and Bloodgood was out.

HARNOIS/ BOSWORTH Here again, I thought that Beth would win this fight, but never dreamed she would KO Bosworth. Bosworth had been counted out only three times in her career. Harnois made reasonably short work of Bosworth. Bosworth won the first round, but couldn’t handle Harnois body attack in the second and went down twice. In third, Harnois caught Bosworth with a looping right to the head and a left to the chin. Bosworth was out. As soon as I finish this column, I am heading to the Mansion, there is going to be some partying going on.

JOHANSSON/ CARTER. Another fight that didn’t last long. Carter got off to a good start giving Johansson a good beating in the first, concentrating on her head early and the body late in the round. The fight reversed in the second, with Johansson doing almost the exact same thing to Carter. In the third Johansson used some lefts and then a right to have Carter hurt. Then it was a series of lefts that finally did Carter in. She was helpless against the ropes and the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

KREUK/ K. Bell The third straight fight that didn’t last to the halfway point. I thought that Kreuk would win this fight but Bell didn’t cooperate. Kreuk looked good for the first three rounds, and it looked like it might be a route. The fourth was a round that Kruek will not soon forget. Bell come out attacking Kreuk’s body, setting up a left to the chin. Then, it was back to the body, pounding away until Kreuk went down hugging her body and stayed there for the count.

McADAMS/ McCARTHY A much anticipated and publicized match, mostly by McCarthy. This was to be the deciding match in a bitter stable war. McAdams and McCarthy were remarkably quiet during the pre-fight, in which Beckinsale demonstrated she can be as annoying as Swan. The first round was all McAdams as McAdams went more to the head than the body. McCarthy came back strong in the second. The third swung back to McAdams who again went to the head early. After a right to the head, McAdams went to the body stuffing three punches behind McCarthy’s elbow and McCarthy went down. She tried to get up but it was for naught McAdams keeps the title by a KO. There was lot of after fight commotion that was fun to watch but wasn’t very dignified for those involved.

BROOK/ GARNER. Brooks first title defense was to be her last. It didn’t surprise us because Garner is a great fighter. Brook is not. It was a good fight and the first five rounds that could have been held in a phone booth. Garner stayed inside, denying Brook leverage and took four of the first five rounds. Brook took the sixth. Garner was hurt early in the seventh but rallied to take the round. Brook won the next two rounds but really needed a KO in the final round to win, but lost it to Garner and lost the championship. Of course there was some after fight action that showed how cheap the Jeri’s fighters continue to be.
