UNIFIED STRAWWEIGHT TITLE (SUB 110 Belt)

Before: Fight lost in the glare surrounding Gershon/Fishel--but it  features previous conquerors of Kelly Packard, and is a tremendous title match up in its own right. Twain has handled boxers well, has outboxed sluggers--but she’s faltered against less conventional fighters who use a lot of movement ie: Spears. Liu definitely one of the most unpredictable talents in boxing--Twain will need to find a way to get her game plan across in the face of Lucy’s surging attacks. Lucy in black sports bra, red high cut aerobics bottoms. Twain in black push up bra, red nylon jogging trunks.

During R1: Shania quickly gets defensive as Lucy showboat early. Liu, legs wide part, hands at her hips, leans in and out, making Twain look awkward and countering with straight arm lefts and rights from dizzying angles. Twain catches punches on her head that she doesn’t see, gets more and more tentative as Liu steps it up.

R2,3,4,5: Lucy Liu outshines Twain each and every round, brilliantly judging distance, leaping nin and out on Shania and landing popping, unlikely blows from all angles. Liu likes to keep her head below waist level, inviting Twain’s punches, then exploding up at the singer with leaping uppercuts. Liu not throwing or connecting a lot--but she’s doing all the damage in the fight, and has Shania clearly second guessing herself.

R6: Twain sees the title slipping away and gets a little more aggressive this round, but it’s just what Liu has been waiting for, Liu bending low, is able to time Twain’s punches and gouge upwards with wicked right uppercuts to the stomach and chin. Midway through the round, the crowd groans as Twain’s head snaps back on her neck and Shania’s legs go wonky.  Liu indulges herself shoe shining Twain’s breasts as the singer burbles helplessly then clips the brunette along with little left hooks preparatory to the huge right cross that sweeps Twain’s gumshield off her teeth. Shania, cut inside the mouth, wobbles to the ropes as Lucy stalks her, hands at her sides. Brilliant power punching round for Liu as she beats Twain at will to the bell.

R7: Shania battered but unbowed, actually gets Lucy a little this round, luring Liu into leading and countering with quick lefts and rights from the shoulders. Liu leaping in, gets her face polished as Twain steps back and fights well in retreat.

R8: Tactics continues to pay off--Twain forcing Liu to lead and taking advantage of glaring openings in Lucy’s loosey goose style. Shania chopping with her fists, keeping everything tight and short, and jolting Liu’s head as the Asian sweeps in. Liu starting to look a little leg weary, breathing through her mouth, takes the round off.

R9: Lucy hopping to her right, clips Shania under the chin with come-along left hooks, then reverses direction to plant the right hand hard and short off Twain’s jaw to re-take the initiative. Twain feeling her legs go numb, covers up, hunches forward and allows Liu to DIG at her ribs with lusty uppercuts from both sides. Liu working away with a smile, knows she has the champ hurt.

R10: Liu looking to leave no doubt, despite what has to be a huge lead on the cards. Breaking Twain’s form down with a series of early, sweeping rushes. Liu creates openings for wide right hands, and midway through the round a crashing overhand right to the face sends Twain reeling to the corner. Liu wading in with hands low, lifts her fists off her hips to stuff tem into Twain’s breasts, or face as Shania tries to cover up. Lucy stepping in and out, has her way with the champ, twisting her hips into circus punches and riddling Twain’s body with crunching impacts. At the bell, Liu goes chest to chest with a hurting and dazed Shania Twain for some well-deserved woofing. Decision comes back a lopsided unanimous duke, Lucy liu.

After: Twain simply not on her game, didn’t do any of the things that made her boxing’s only two-weight champion. Liu with a pounding and one-sided triumph takes the Unified Strawweight belt, and immediately make oplans to take Twain’s Junior Bantam crown as well.
