BLOOD FEUD ‘99

110 LB TITLE

Before: Both girls put it on the line in a developing rivalry, last fight saw Lucy destroy Shannen with lightning rushes, but Doherty determined to represent in this fight and “take Lucy out”. Still a good match up for Liu, who likes the stand up target  Shannen represents, despite Doherty’s good right hand at this weight (110), Lucy in black push up, red aerobics bottoms, Shannen in red jockey two piece.

During R1: Typical tactical round for Liu as she swoops and glides around her opponent, stepping flat footed, undulating her torso, and leaping with single potshots at the slightest provocation. Not a lot back from Doherty who hides behind an uncharacteristic high guard, and looks robotic on defense.

R2: Lucy takes a shot, leaning in with her hands low and booming that leaping left uppercut off Shannen’s chin to open the round with a flourish. Doherty with her gloves high, frames her face for the uppercuts, and Lucy tears her apart with outrageous blows, Midway through the round, with Shannen looking shaky, the girls trade blows, with lucy bending inhumanly back on her hips from Doherty’s right hand, only to snap back with a looping right hand counter of her own. Doherty’s legs tremble and threaten to give out on several occasions as Lucy loads up and gets her body in behind several crushing shots. By the final bell, Doherty remains standing, but looks gutshot--and Liu is awarded a 10-8 round for total, hard hitting dominance.

R3: Lucy took her shot at a KO, now she takes it down a notch, skipping outside, leaping in with a looping right hand, then clinching for a break, Doherty still tremble-bodied, covering up her face, accepts the clinching like a gift, and gives away the round.

R4: Shannen comes out brawling, looping her punches and getting the right hand in on the action, and catches Liu snaking away with her hands down,. Lucy on her heels, gets feinted into moving too soon, allowing Doherty to extend into straight right hands that have some effect. Shutout for Doherty as she chases liu around the ring, and gives her right hand on the mouth after the bell.

R5: Liu showing versatility, takes the fight inside to negate Shannen’s wide punching. Lucy with her head tucked under Shannen’s cheek, punches through Doherty’s clinching to put a tight  grimace  in Doherty’s face, Shannen ineffective, lays in and lets Liu dig away between the hips.

R6.7.8: Lucy Liu begins to demoralize her opponent, taking control of the rounds with her legs, and winning with increasing ease as Doherty huffs and puffs, but can’t touch Liu often enough to hurt her. Liu with the leaping Electra punch to the gut, has Doherty moving heavily, and reacting late to the head shots--Shannen simply getting jolted, setting her feet, then taking another punch as Liu potshots.

R9: lou with a gorgeous right uppercut from the ankles, sinks her fist into the taut ab muscles of her foe, and the crowd groans in sympathy as Doherty;’ legs give way. Shannen looking sick and battered, fades to the ropes as a happy Lucy Liu begins to bully her with wide, whip action blows from all angles. Liu delights in just twitching her shoulders, and watching Doherty jerk in reaction to the feint. Lucy can take whatever she wants--the head, the chest, the belly--Doherty clearly too afraid at this point to risk punching back with anything but don’t-hurt-me jabs. Liu capping off the round with spectacular low blow, bodying up on Shannen to see how she likes the rough treatment at the bell.

R10: Lucy completes her beating of Shannen Doherty with a playful, almost leisurely tenth, leaning back with her hands down as Doherty misses, playing tag with Shannen’s breasts, and leaving Doherty thoroughly humiliated by the final bell, Shannen turned  inside out by her bewildering opponent, goes the distance, but loses 9 rounds in this one-sided display.

After: Sometimes it’s better to get knocked out. Doherty’s gutsy showing in the second convinced Liu to drag out the punishment, and the result is one if the worst, longest sustained beatings on record. Shannen took a great punch in this fight, but the awkward commitment to defense really took her out of her natural rhythm, and Liu never felt heat after the 4th. Convincing beating leaves Liu a dual title holder, and Doherty with questions about whether she’ll ever be able to compete with the Asian tigress.
