NOTE: This fight just 2 weeks after Beckinsale-Cruz. Is that too soon for an aging Kate?

Before: Julie and Jaime Pressly not only have a level of mutual respect as competitors, they also have a shared dislike of Kate Beckinsale, so it's no surprise that rumors have circulated that Pressly contacted Benz to offer help in beating Becks. When asked, however, Benz scoffed and asked, "You think the Academy is going to take advice from Empire on how to fight one of their own? I don't want to risk being caught up in some kind of game by anyone associated with Front Street either - no matter whether the stories of an 'anti-Academy alliance' are true or not. Everyone knows Beckinsale is jealous of Pressly's success and would like nothing better than to be the top bantam in the stable, but I'm not here to help them settle their problem; I'm here to win a fight."
Kate Beckinsale on the reports that Pressly is helping Benz: "Nothing she does surprises me. She can't beat me herself so I wouldn't put it past her to enlist another blonde bimbo's help. But seriously, does anyone think Julie 'Freakin' Benz is any kind of threat to me? Even if Pressly took her place in the ring - which I would welcome, actually - there's still no chance I can lose tonight."
Beckinsale in an unaccustomed position in this bout: she's the "youngster" at age 37, a full 9 months younger than the 38 y/o Julie Benz. Kate also enjoys the 'big girl' role because, at 5'7" she towers 3" over Benz. When you add the advantage of her longer arms, longer legs and greater experience, Beckinsale appears set to leap into title contention with her win tonight.
Benz, however, is used to facing taller, younger and bigger women...when you're 5'4" you better get used to it! The biggest disadvantage for Julie is her "experience" - this will be just her 14th FCBA fight while it's Beckinsale's 52nd; a formidable hurdle to surmount. But as Julie said in her prefight presser, "So I've got 40 less fights worth of wear and tear on my body."
Benz: baby blue bra/panties/white stockings/white shoes; blonde hair in loose tousle. Beckinsale: (describe). Red gloves for both women in this one.

During R1: Long, lean, leggy Becks controlling the action in the early going; using the jab and her long legs to avoid Benz' charges; chopping down at the shorter blonde as she turns to pursue. Benz getting frustrated as Kate makes her dance to her tune. But cocky Kate starts showboating late and her hubris costs her two minutes in! BECKS PASTED, GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Julie slips Becks jab and scores with a quick counter hook; follows up with the right, jamming the shuddering brunette's butt between the ropes. Benz' quick-mitted flurry keeps Becks subdued to the bell, allowing the blonde to steal what had been looking like a brunette round.

R2: Becks again dominating the action territorially, but this time she doesn't get too full of herself and maintains her discipline. Julie being entirely too selective; looking to fit Beck's for another 'perfect' left hook rather than forcing the action. Benz' lack of aggression gives Beckinsale the round by default as Kate pokes and pecks her way to the points. Crowd murmuring with displeasure at the lack of action after the scintillating first. Between: Julie's corner tells Benz, "...just let yur hands go and work her body. She's not in as good condition you are; go in there and bang with her!"

R3: Julie follows orders, eating a couple of jabs as she punches her way inside - setting up at a middle distance inside Kate's jab-range. They're not tummy on tummy, but Julie's crowding Kate; keeping busy to her body. Blonde tearing up Kate's taut abs with crunching hooks and snappy rights; carving in up top in well-chosen spots to get Kate's head bobbing and swiveling. Clear advantage to Julie Benz as Kate's obviously uncomfortable having a little blonde set up housekeeping in her kitchen!

R4: Kate rebuffs Julie's advance. Beckinsale committing to the jab early, keeping Benz at arms length or grabbing her shoulders and shoving her away. Second minute sees Kate catch Julie with a firm left hook and BENZ IS HURT! Julie earmuffing on the ropes as Becks lays into her. Julie spends the rest of the round working hard just to deny Becks closing run. Kate takes the round but Julie shows her moxie as she fights a damage-control fourth; mitigating her damage on the scorecards by brilliantly executing a gritty 'fight for every inch of canvas' approach that wins the hearts - if not votes - of the judges and the crowd.

R5: See-saw battle continues! This time the trading of early hooks goes Julie's way and Becks' knees unhinge. As Julie throws herself into the attack, it's the bigger, leggy, brunette who's forced onto the defensive; Kate backpedaling as Benz scours her body, piling up points with an up-close-and-personal body attack. Julie demonstrating good handspeed with her flashing combinations that leave Beckinsale panting at the bell. Good showing by Julie Benz pockets the points.

R6: Back to Beck Beating! Once more the momentum shifts. First two minutes see some of the most intense, digging stuff yet; shoulder-on-shoulder trading that ends as a pure stalemate. But in the final minute, Kate's able to get separation and hurts Julie with a couple of hooks that drive the blonde back onto ropes. There, Beckinsale is able to clean her up to bell. Both girls faces lumping up - both have been hurt and both have shown the ability to rally back. Since the second round, the crowd has really been into the fight, often standing to cheer and applaud the rough, inside, body bashing action and they send the girls back to their stools with a standing ovation.

R7: Beckinsale, out to build on her advantage, runs into a blonde buzzsaw! Benz up on her toes, nimbly ducking, dipping, darting; slipping under or around Becks jab to touch the brunette's body. Side-by-side it's easy to see how two differently built women are in the same weight class. Kate: slight and slim with a long, limber, lean frame. Julie: stocky with a more muscular upperbody and short, powerful legs, firm glutes. When she's inside, Julie uses every bit of muscle power to hammer Kate's fragile body. Becks just a 'touch better' fighting outside and Julie's challenge - one she meets this round - is to get to her preferred distance; crowd Kate; beat her body and take the chin when it's available. Julie puts on a clinic for short blondes everywhere, showing how to handle Beckinsale by out-boxing and out-working her for the full three minutes.

R8: Pendulum swings back! Beckinsale outboxes Julie. With help from Bellucci and Kate Hudson in her corner, Beck's finally got it figured out. Beckinsale committing to the jab as part of her attack, coming forward resolutely behind a snapping, pumping left; circling toward her cocked right hand, fitting it in when she can; keeping Benz back on her heels. Kate's legs a formidable weapon this round, not only as she's stepping around Benz but when Benz tries to close, skipping away to keep Benz well outside for pot-shots with either hand. Beckinsale using the whole ring this round and when she hurts the blonde, hounding Benz to the ropes. Julie's unable to penetrate and she takes a lumping up as a result. This is the dominant Kate Beckinsale we've all been waiting to see in action!

R9: Beckinsale continues to work her plan, legging her way around Benz; pumping the jab. All according to plan until...Benz gambles on a lunging overhand right, clocking Kate into a stupor. Suddenly, KATE WOBBLY BUTT, retreating to ropes, fighting sluggishly from an earmuff defense. Julie Benz squares up, pounds away to work Becks' aging body. Julie hammering away with both hands; digging into brunette paunch; coming up the middle with hard-hearted uppercuts to rock Kate time and again!

R10: First and only back to back round for either girl...and it's Julie Benz. Blonde pulling away at the end - issuing shove-and-slug to Becks - really punishing her with diligence. Nothing coming back from Kate who's just covering up and sponging up the hurt. Down the stretch, Julie ROCKS Kate again and has her ready to go but Benz' feverish attempts to close Kate out runs out of time. Not that it matters! Scores come back awarding a UD10 to the winner, Julie Benz!

After: This could well be Julie Benz' career-best effort - making up for her shortfall against Jen Connelly in that brutal desert brawl back in (date?) and proving to any doubters that her real strength is that she has no weakness. If she has one, Benz only weakness is that she has no obvious strength either. She's a solid, all-round, fighter who can give any bantam a tough fight. Julie comes out of this solidifying her image as a hard-nosed, journeywoman-made-good fighter who's had to work for all she's gotten - and is finally getting it although it's coming a bit late in her career.
Pressly hooting and hollering at ringside, can't get enough of the dejected look on Beckinsale's ruddy, bruised, face as the decision is announced. In contrast, an equally disheveled Julie Benz can't stop grinning - until Pressly barges into the ring to congratulate her; then Benz pointedly turns her back on her fellow blonde and ignores her. Scribes rush to write the usual "conspirators falling out" story although both Pressly and Benz deny any Pressly role in Beckinsale's defeat - for very different, but mutually supporting reasons.
Kate whining she was "a bit of overconfident" - letting the ol' movie star ego getting in the way? But brazenly demanding a rematch and even challenging stablemate Pressly to "put up or shut up."
