Pt 1:

(Result:Simguy/Words:Simgrrl)

It's been a tumultous last couple of months, what with The Academy and The 'Evil' Empire going at it hammer and tongs in a series of hard-fought matches; each seemingly more contentious and mean-spirited than the one before! There've been a few instances of grown women acting a bit like children; their antics being answered in turn by even more childish "one upmanship" behaviour by the rival stable. Both owners have spent time in the Commissioner's office; called on the carpet and warned to 'cut the crap' (or words to that effect). Still, after the way Diaz dissected the Academy's legendary Hall of Famer Cat Bell in her last outing, all bets are off as to what might follow tonight's contest.

And speaking of which; it features the latest 'hot number' from South Africa - Victoria's Secret lingerie model Candice Swanepoel - who only needs fans to get a look at her in her 'skimpies' to realize she could have a very lucrative - if not quite successful - career in the FCBA simply by showing up and posing ringside with the punters! If she can box - even a lick, well, that's a bonus but one that should bode well for her career, longterm.

Diaz boosters have been talking her up as a future Hall of Fame fighter, although most women hoping to get voted into a Hall of Fame don't disappear for several years in the twilight of their career! Still, her record is - if not worthy of the Hall of Fame - certainly worthy of discussion. The 38 y/o blonde has a career mark of just 31-25 with a KO percentage hovering around 50 percent, so one can't make a HOF case based on her record. But Diaz has beaten every lightweight of note during her career. Sadly, her HOF backers come a cropper when examing her record over the last 6 years - a sub-lackluster 4-10 record and she's had just 14 fights in six years - hardly the stuff of legend, even if she'd won them all!

Still, the media shows their immense respect for Cam, variously referring to her as "the Theron of Franchise" or "one of the best movie star blondes fighting today" - in addition to making her the overwhelming 8:1 favourite in this contest.
Still, it's got the makings of being an entertaining match-up; not least because in her most recent outing, Cam Diaz all but undressed the newest member of the HOF, Catherine "Cat" Bell, who couldn't get on the scorecard until the 9th round! But tonight Diaz is facing a far younger, much quicker - and far less experienced - opponent!

Swanepoel has less than ten fights on her resume, but she's shown resiliance and she certainly hasn't backed down in the face of determined opposition. Fans who show up tonight are expecting not only to see two gorgeous women in tight, tiny, costumes, but hopefully a wonderful athletic contest between two skilled competitors. Sharon Stone and Charlize Theron working Candice's corner tonight - Cat Bell unaccountably absent (just as well given her most recent exposure to Cameron Diaz!) Diaz is supported by her head trainer Monica Bellucci ably assisted by DWTS' beautiful hostess, Brooke Burke.

Swanepoel: sheer lace bra/panties from the Victoria's Secret Christmas catalogue; matching garter belt, nude stockings and black mid-calf boots. Diaz: Royal Blue bikini from her web page; matching trainers. White gloves for both.

During R1: Swanepoel right out of her corner the aggressor; Diaz using her legs, taking a long, cautious look at the tall, wiry, blond. Candice showing she paid attention to Bell and Stone; unwilling to make the same mistakes Bell did by letting Diaz dictate; pushing out a much better looking jab then in earlier fights; stroking firmly. Diaz unwilling to commit to offence, biding her time; letting Swanepoel take the first round based on 'indifference' instead of mixing it up. Veteran Diaz knows it's a long fight and she's confident that giving away one point in the early going won't be nearly as lethal as would be taking the youngster lightly.

R2: Diaz back to what worked against Bell, ducking in-and-out; using her well-schooled stoop 'n' jab to the model's tummy; Cam slowly timing her girl, getting the range. Swanepoel boxing wide-eyed at points as Cam's quickness is a big wake up call for Swannie which she can't answer. Candice unused to being the 'slow girl' in her fights and the revelation comes as something of a shock to the system...there's no one in the Academy who's able to mimic Diaz' style and quickness - although Theron gave it a good try in their sparring sessions.

R3: Second verse, same as the first! More of the same: Diaz circling vulture-like, picking her spots; darting in, establishing the tummy jab, hooking and pivoting. Candice unable to match Diaz hand- or foot-speed, always a beat behind the cadence. Diaz working her hook-and-pivot routine masterfully, dropping the occasional right hand or combination then escaping with barely a touch in return. Swanepoel coming off as overmatched, confused and bewildered at times, yet not backing off to paw at long range as some might; still coming forward with a ferocious scowl and although many of her long armed, whippy punches don't land, the ones that do send ripples through Diaz' aging body.

R4: Consummate Diaz performance! Cam back with more of the same as rounds 2 and 3, only a lot more intense! Constant bend-n-jab into Swannie's tummy, doubling her over; then snapping the combo. Swanepoel falling into clinches, giving up her wiry body as she wraps Cam up top. Diaz getting into Swanepoel's taut abs, breaking the slender South African down. Swannie swaying, gloved hands holding Diaz biceps, head on shoulder Late, Diaz finally able to put Candice down with a ripping body attack followed by one-two-three snappy combinations! All adding up and proving just too much for the tall, beautiful blonde who goes cascading to the mat like a puppet with the strings cut. Candice's legs buckling, dropping to her knees, then toppling forward onto all fours before her arms go sliding outward and she slams tits-first into the mat; long legs splayed wide. Cam steps over her on her way to a neutral corner, looking back over her shoulder with a toss of blonde curls. Badly harmed, Swanepoel courageously drags herself to her knees, then struggles to her feet, just beating the count. Diaz on her in a heartbeat; Candice turtling; crouching with butt-in-strands; taking a beating. Bell: Cam bouncing back to her corner; Swanpoel trudging to hers where Stone and Theron play 'beat the clock' trying to get her in shape to answer the bell. Even then, the referee checks her out before allowing the fight to continue.

R5: The beating of young Candice Swanepoel's life! In all liklihood, this fight should have been stopped this round but instead, it's a real character-maker that young Swannie's able to just survive!! Right from the bell, Diaz baring her fangs, getting off lean and mean; carving up young Swanepoel like a Thanksgiving goose. Diaz forsaking her 'defense first' strategy to go all in on Candice! Right hand lead puts Swanepoel in trouble right off the bat, then a hook-cross-hook leaves her wobbly butt. DOWN GOES CANDICE! Big right drops Swanepoel on her lace encased butt in the opening minute. Swannie sitting up, leaning back on her hands, shaking her head as Diaz leers over her, fists clenched, daring her to get up. Swanepoel rolls over onto hands and knees, crawls to the ropes and heaves herself upright; fists at chest; nodding to the referee she's 'OK'! Diaz in to finish but Swannie ducking and bobbing; holding out that long, straight jab to keep Diaz far enough away she can't land a clean 'go home' shot. Diaz content to hammer away to the body; slamming uppies into Candice's brassiere; digging into her waistband; coming over the top to rock her again and again with big right hands. Candice showing the recouperative power of youth, taking a licking while her legs firm under her as she's driven backward; holding her left out so Diaz can't get into her body with a clean shot. Final minute, Candice just starting to show some signs of life when Diaz leaps in behind a right hand lead, catching Candi clean and staggering her! Cam all over her girl, thudding away to the torso with left-right combos; scooping hard into her mid-section, snapping combos with lightening quick hands and brutal efficiency. Closing seconds, SWANEPOEL GOES DOWN! Candice battered to all fours again; shaking her head; disheveled hair cascading down over her flushed face. Count is 'seven' when she's saved by the bell - still on all fours when Stone and Theron rush out to help her to her feet and escort her wobbly back to her corner. Diaz kicking just about as much ass as a girl can kick without knocking another girl out. On her way to her corner, Diaz berating the referee for not stopping the carnage, but he just shrugs her off.

Candice Swanepoel vs. Cameron Diaz (conc)

R6: Diaz is all punched out and, although groggy, Swanepoel manages to go on the offence. The advantage of youth sees Candice's good recuperative power coming to the fore while the aging Diaz needs a bit longer to catch her breath. Candice getting her hips into her punching for the first time as she's now able to out-leg Diaz around the ring, using her leggy offence and whippy arms to land before Cam can set her defenses. Candice bringing her brawling right hand up from her hip - elbow flying out wide - fist curling in with a jamming, flat-knuckle impact that sends shudders through Diaz' body! Candi able to step around Cam, turning her flank, carving punches in from off angles, putting Diaz back on her heels time and again. Late in the round, a series of looping, willowy, wallops hammer Cameron, beating her ragged and finally, in the closing seconds, SCATTERS CAM TO ALL FOURS! Diaz battered to hands and knees, mouthpiece slapped out of her mouth, crawling around looking for it as the referee counts. Cam (barely) manages to get it together; reach her feet by nine; then earmuffing with her butt in the ropes as Swanepoel wails away with both fists to the bell!

R7: Diaz is still spooked from Candice's never-say-die counterattack and the shocked blonde gets on her bicycle. Swanepoel, still hurting herself - nevertheless pursues her doggedly, obviously preferring to go down fighting rather than take her foot off the gas! Cameron's hands still stitch-quick, but she's boxing safety-first; hanging back behind her jab; while using her still great legs to avoid taking any serious damage - yet she's coughing up points to Candice who stays aggressiver the entire three minutes! Diaz never really able to get settled into a rhythm; looking rocky; swerving to skirt potholes as she eludes, evades and avoids trouble for a full three minutes of non-stop Swanepoel swinging.

R8: Holy crap! Swanny rallies again and gives Diaz (if not THE beating of her career) one of her worse rounds in many years! It's bell to bell Candice Swanepoel, showing her opponent a hard, South African, attitude; slopping it in lanky to Cam from bell to bell. Diaz rocked time and again, beaten senseless at times, stumbling around, face-in-gloves, gamely trying to rally but Candice having none of it! Candice continually breaking down every attempt by Cam to rally, then getting back on top of her again and again. Closing minute, DIAZ FINALLY BEATEN TO HER KNEES by another flurry of Swanepoel's willowy, lashing, right hands. When Swanepoel gets to free-swinging; when she's got all the parts moving in concert; there's good willowy leverage to be had and Cam Diaz gets a first hand demonstration of the power of her lanky, willowy, stroking this round.

R9: OH NO! Swanny still coming forward, dishing out a licking; refusing to show deference to the older blonde! Diaz runs for the first minute, but then she slowly gets punched into stuporous compliance as Swanepoel continues to leg her way outside Cam's left to drop that whippy right hand over her or dig it inside under her left elbow. ANOTHER BLUDGEONING KNOCKDOWN! Diaz down again late, sputtering to all fours as Swannie's eating up the stagger!

R10: Anybody's fight at this point! Diaz regains her legs - boxing smartly defensive, tossing in just enough offence to make a credible appearance and she pockets the tenth by taking minimal risk - doing only what's required to outpoint the now arm weary, punch-happy, younger blonde. Swanny's inexperience costs her as she failed to pace herself the last several rounds and can no longer cut off the ring or force Diaz to brawl; so Cam limps home. It's narrow, but it's a UD10 Diaz.

After: The making of a fighter? Perhaps. Swanepoel showing the grit, determination and never-quit attitude that turned another young South African blonde into a legendary champion. It's far too soon to say Swanepoel will be 'the next Theron' - she's not even established as Swanepoel yet, but if she ever does become good, this may be the fight people look back on and say, 'Whoa. She showed us something there.'
Girls hug mid-ring after the decision is announced and Diaz graciously raises Candice's arm - to a huge ovation from the crowd recognizing both Swanepoel's gutsy effort and Diaz' classy sportsmanship. Unlike previous fights between the two stables, there's no acrimony postfight - at least not openly displayed - partly because the promoters strictly segregated ringside seats for the girls as well as added extra security about the ring.
Diaz says all the right things. "Swanepoel is quicker than you'd expect with so little experience; she's got good feet and a whippy right hand that lands with authority - take it from my ribs! When she gets all the parts moving in concert, there's good willowy leverage to be had there. I like her future; and I think she's got a real future in this game."
Candice looking like a girl who went into an alley fight and came out second best, but can't stop smiling after surprising just about everyone - including Diaz - with her rousing charge to the finish line in this fight. "She hit me with just about everything but the kitchen sink in the first five rounds," she says with a frown. "But what really got to me was when she told the referee he should stop the fight. It's not HER place to decide that, it's the referee's - and Sharon's. There's always going to be controversy when an official stops a fight, but as a fighter, I want me and my corner deciding that, not my opponent. I knew I wasn't that badly hurt so I couldn't continue and - based on what happened the next couple of rounds - I think Miss Diaz realized she was out of gas and was looking for a way out. I don't quit and I don't run away. Maybe I'm a little too stubborn at times and ought to run more, but South Africans are stubborn, and we're tough; so if you want a fight you won't have to look hard to find us."
* * *
Fans may be disgruntled and disappointed by the lack of any 'extra added free show' after the fight, but as one FCBA official (who declined to allow himself to be identified) told reporters, "We're getting killed by the mainstream media. We hadda do something to rein in these gals. Sure the fans love all the sexual innuendo; the barely covered breasts and the BDSM stuff - hell, I love it too - but the Parent's Television Council and the FCC have been on our [butts] about it. Just because it's a PPV doesn't relieve us of any responsibility. Our attorney's say we're cool as long as we're up front about JMD - and pretty much anything really; but if we advertise a show as a 'boxing' match then we're pretty much stuck with it being ONLY boxing. So unless it says 'JMD' in the program - or 'postfight nudity possible' or something else weird like 'loser becomes the winner's slave for a week', or God only knows what else they'll think of next - then that unscheduled, unscripted, 'REALITY TV' crap is gonna end! If they keep it up, the commissioner is gonna make 'em pull out a checkbook and start writing 'cause FINES are gonna be imposed! And I'm not talking the usual $100 for a broken bra strap or $50 when a referee suddenly goes blind. Nosiree, I'm talking big bucks, major moolah. We're prepared to go to four figures...if that's what it'll take to make these bimbos keep their clothes on...well, most of their clothes anyway. HEY! DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THAT!"
