BEFORE: "I could nitpick Summer's wins," Eliza shrugs in prefight. "Swan wasn't really much bigger when they fought; Beckinsale has no heart...but let's face it: Summer Glau's riding a hundred-year wave right now, and you always have to respect a streak. The trick with these things, is timing. Obviously, Kate made her move too soon...but maybe now Summer's cooling off. If I don't pounce now, maybe someone else catches Glau coming back to earth...it's very tricky. I do think the time is right to burst this bubble. I'm not dismissing Summer entirely - girl can fight a bit - but if the streak is ending, she's going to have a tough time competing with an Eliza Dushku." Glau acknowledging Dushku's fearsome rep, but champ starting to accept herself as a legitimate ruler these days. "I did feel stopping Serinda was a little flukey," Sum admits in postfight, "but I worked a perfect plan against Britney, and I knew Kate was susceptible to right hands, and I feel luck played a reduced role in those wins. That's why I'm taking Eliza - because people are STILL saying I'm flukey, and I have to crush that talk. I could take a cupcake defence - I've earned it - but so long as girls are thinking I'm just 'riding a wave', then I don't have the respect I'm looking for. If I go Britney, Beckinsale, Dushku? All this flukey-Summer talk's going to start ringing pretty hollow!" Eliza in red leather bikini; curly ponytail with ringlets framing face; small black gloves. Summer in black bikini; small black gloves; long brown hair loose. Dushku made to wait in the ring as Summer descends to the soundtrack for THE NATURAL: pyrotechnics showering Sum with sparks from the rafters as she's making her way to the ring. Dushku: pursed-lip irritation at the unexpected showmanship.

During R1: Eliza storms in...then backs off, slidestepping back in her stance to lure Summer forward. Glau hops-to, eats a whirling pair of check-hooks on her chin: Sum momentarily buzzed as Sheriff baits a trap early. Dushku over to offence, tanning Summer's slender flanks both hands...Glau legging away, getting herself together outside. Remainder of the round sees Glau actually outbox Eliza as Dushku pursues around the ring: Sum's nimble agility coming to the rescue as Dushku can't close the show. Eliza's round because of the early power, but Summer avoids a Dushku landslide.

R2: Eliza in wide stance; elbows in, dukes up. Summer limber about her challenger - circling, changing directions, changing levels. Dushku crisp, chopping with her shots - looking to double swift hooks, drop hard rights to Summer's chin. Glau rangy - showing the lanky up-jab off the hip; bolo right hands taking Eliza in her left-side flank/lats; whippy wide right hands strapping Eliza about left ear. Dushku touched up - unhurt, but unable to get on top of supple Summer through 2.

R3: Eliza penetrating - stepping in behind a pinging jab to whirl combinations. Sum giving ground, turning at the ropes: minute mark sees her dose Eliza with the same medicine that got Beckinsale beate. Oncoming E runs into a whippy right hand to chin...Dushku stepping in fence post holes as Glau turns the Dushku right flank. Sum lickin' and a-lashin - sinewy lefts and rights stroking across Dushku's front/bouncing off hips/flanks...Eliza in tight earmuff, turning into the hurt, trying to stay covered up. Buggywhip right hands take Eliza in left hip/left armpit - Summer's small glove denting Dushku's flesh with cruel PIK! PAK! impacts. Hard minutes for Eliza - she keeps herself covered up, suffers a bullwhipping as Sum leads her round the ring. At the bell, Glau forces "I'm-for-real" eye contact on a wincing challenger through 3.

R4: Eliza shakes off Summer's power, attacking Glau all around the ring: leads to vicious two-way fighting. Dushku penetrating with the jab, then chipping tight combos with elbows-in delivery. Glau exacting a terrible price for every foot of canvas...in particular a slicing, palm-up hook taking Dushku across her sternum, bringing cringe-and-wince reactions. Eliza's will prevails...final minute sees her fists tracking Summer down with increasing success - small mitts biting into body, bouncing off skull as Glau can't answer.

R5: Eliza feints, drives in a drifting right cross clean to chin: Summer's head smote hard to starboard as her knees bennnnd and shimmy. Glau hurt, lopes away...Dushku hunting wounded Summer all around the ring. Sum slick n' cute - bouncing off corner ropes like a billiard ball, sidestepping and frustrating Eliza as Dushku's trying to finish. Eliza's round bell to bell - she evens up the cards through 5.

R6: Eliza stepping in the stiff jab - knocking back Sum's pate: batting hook in the waist; clipping hook on the chin; tidy-chopping right to jaw have Glau staggering backwards in trouble. Dushku walking Summer down - spearing the jab - looking to place biting rights in Summer's ribs, then short-shrug left hooks/uppercuts on clean up. Glau's front eroding...she's lumping up, getting discouraged...attempts to stop-and-pop blocked as Dushku advances in good form. Systematic stuff from Eliza: she's patient, staying compact, whittling away on Summer body-and-head.

R7: Grim retreats for Summer - her face scuffing up, ribs pink: Eliza steely-eyed, but disciplined, working out of a wide stance, jabbing to set up combos. Glau mounting counterattacks, but increasingly paying a steep price: Dushku covering up/crouching down, withstanding Summer's limber lather, then answering right back crisp n' cruel. Sum struck again and again on her face/jawlines by sudden Dushku counters...Glau wearing down, becoming more available to Eliza's fists through 7.

R8: Eliza feints, then brings a drifting right cross: Sum eating flush chin-check, knees buckling, buttocks wobbling. Glau rallying, trying to push forward: Eliza jab-jabbing, then placing a poking straight right to tip of Summer's chin. DOWN GOES GLAU! Summer stumbling to haunches and hands, looking bleak: Eliza striding past, glancing down in smouldering satisfaction. Rickety 8, Glau: Eliza moves in to trap her girl ropeside for the first time. Sum: hurt, hands up, buttocks in ropes; Eliza set - ringing tart one-twos off the guard up top; rip-snatching left hooks off Sum's flat waist; chup-chupping right hands in behind Sum's left elbow. All Eliza: Summer wilting, wilting, slender legs holding her up as relentless Sheriff shreds a champion.

R9: Eliza triggering sudden one-twos from the shoulder - pinpoint knocks kicking back Glau's face, unhinging her knees. Sum staggering, turning to her right...she's wandering, confused: Eliza batting straight-arm hooks almost from behind Glau - punches taking Glau awkwardly on her left cheek, mouth. DOWN GOES GLAU! Sum dropped to right hip/hand, sitting in a puddle of despair as Dushku steps over Glau's legs. Rickety 8, Summer Glau: willowy beauty badly degraded at this point - face busting up, mouth open. Dushku pins Summer to ropes with stabbing left jabs: brace of pokes upstairs straightens Summer up, leaves her vulnerable to vicious right fish-hook uppercuts to sternum. Glau gasping, sitting in ropes, suffering as Dushku works the hips/lower back, then gets low to stack Summer up ragdoll. Hard to watch: Sheriff pitiless - controlling her supple foe, making sure of Glau's body, then punishing the face like it's a duty to batter. Bell: Eliza raises eyebrows at ref, snarking - "What's it gonna take, guy?" Summer hugging throbbing ribs, looking spellbound.

R10: Glau insistent with her corner: she wants to go the distance. Dushku stepping in jabs, knocking back Sum's face...Eliza in wide stance, pushing forward off ball of right (back) foot. Dushku's punches SO sharp and crisp: her elbows in atop her hips, hands up as she snaps off hooks/chops right hands, ringing Summer up ribs/face. Glau's legs a sad parody of the springy wonders that began the fight: Sum stumbling into ropes, hands up loose, head lolling. Eliza in with the jab - knocking Sum's face back groggy; slotting in the straight right hand down into stomach, bunching Sum up hurrrrt. Eliza dipping torso-left for an angle, hooking Summer vicious behind right elbow: Glau covering up face-in-gloves, keeping elbows in, stooping foward resigned to her fate. OH how Eliza beats her...Dushku's arms shivering as she bats either hand off Summer's sleek flanks...ringsiders screaming "STOP THE FIGHT!" as poor Summer sponges a beating. The tic-toc whacking of Eliza's fists beating Summer's ribcage goes on and on; Dushku gritting her teeth, grunting as she twists side to side, lashing her fists into her foe. FINALLY ref steps in, cradling Summer to safety: that's TKO10 for the winner and NEW bantamweight champ - Eliza Dushku.

After: Dushku grinning - emerging from a hard fought first half to slowly bend Summer to her will - it's a consummate performance for the multi-time champ. "Made me work, made me sweat," Eliza admits in postfight, "but in the end, I wasn't about to be denied by Summer Glau. She's got a lot of pride, I'll give her that - but this fight could've been stopped a lot earlier. After she caught me her Sunday punch in the third, I think she knew she wasn't in with Kate Beckinsale. Once I shook that off, it was just a matter of time." Shadow of HISC tyranny descends once again as Dushku rejoins Williams atop the foodchain at 120 and below.
