BBU WELTERWEIGHT TITLE (SITE: CARDIFF, WALES, U.K.)

Kelli's first defence will be against the talented Suranne Jones, the actress who took a break from boxing after her defeat by Michelle Ryan to get involved in apartment wrestling, where she has been beating up models and showgirls one after another. Big Suranne now wants the BBU welterweight title , and she's been fast-tracked a title shot.

Suranne is first into the ring, wearing a flattering black one piece outfit, soon to be joined by Kelli who has chosen a scarlet bikini.

Round 1

Suranne is very keen to get into this fight early, and she's the girl who is first to land her punches, and she's clipping Kelli's cheeks with bother left and her right gloves, surprised that the champion isn't getting involved in a slugfest. Kelli prefers to box, and she is circling Suranne, watchful, limiting herself to stabbing a few jabs into the actress's face as the round draws to a close.

Tight round - Suranne just taking it

Round 2

Suranne ups her tempo a little in the second, warming to her task, finding it easy to land her hard left jab in Kelli's face, the younger girl still not having the experience to defend herself against a good puncher. The round moves on painfully for Kelli, with the older girl bumping her around, starting to push the singer where she wants her, bullying her, then unloading - all head punches, too - jabs to the mouth, hooks to the ears, and Kelli's response is to fight back, rather than defend, throwing loopy hooks towards Suranne, the taller girl blocking them easily, unloading some more.

Suranne takes a dominant second round

Round 3

Still Suranne looks the sharper fighter, landing punches at will in Kelli's waiting face, a face that's looking a little swollen at this early stage, with Kelli being worked to the ropes yet again by big Suranne, picking up more punishment as the actress thuds those jabs into her face. Kelli manages to punch her way out of trouble again, landing some good punches to Suranne's body, but the big girl just walks her down again, taking her back to those ropes, then beating her up some more - Kelli is hurt, blood seeping from her lips and nostrils, and she's dazed at the end of the round.

Another round for Suranne

Round 4

Once more, Suranne comes out to bully the champion, but Kelli is resilient, and she catches the actress when she gets in close, hitting her face with a neat combination, forcing the older girl to step back at last. Jones's gloves shield her face nicely, but she cannot guard her body against the onslaught from Kelli that comes next, a series of hard, ripping left hooks to her ribs and flank, and she has the big actress wilting, having to hold on to get through the round intact - she's looking tired, too.

Kelli grabs that round back

Round 5

With her confidence returning, Kelli starts to take the fight to Suranne, knowing her bodyshots can hurt the bigger girl, she unloads a few more, clubbing her to the gut from either hand, backing her up nicely. Suranne scowls at Kelli now, clenches her teeth against the pain and wades back into her, cracking those hefty jabs in at her face again, she rocks the girl's head back, muscles her to the ropes, and starts to batter her again her power too much for Kelli's defence, and she's down, on her ass and dazed for a count of 8. Suranne wants to finish Kelli off, but the bell ends the round.

Suranne resumes control

Round 6

Eager to continue her work, Suranne attacks Kelli once more, confident of taking the title - but she's not beaten the girl yet, and Kelli comes out punching too, hard and heavy shots to the Jones midsection, she soon has her in trouble, and it's Suranne who's taking the punishment now, refusing to back off, and getting hurt to that body. The round is near to the end, and Kelli tries her luck when she has a tiring Suranne backing up to the ropes at last, and she goes for the uppercut - not her best, but enough to thump Jones's head backwards, her knees quaking, the girl somehow staying up til the bell.

Kelli wins that round back

Round 7

Suranne now looks a different girl, weakened and hurt, she is the slower of the two to rise, and when she does she's met by a little barrage of punches to her face, a creased, bruised face now, as Kelli punishes her, putting her back on the ropes and crashing punches into her cheeks, Suranne unable to stop her as the punches land around her eyes, both of which are blackening. Gasping for air after a very good left to her belly, Suranne is sent to the canvas by Kelli's right hook for a count of 8, then, when she rises, she takes three more shots to the head and goes down again, this time for 7, and the actress looks out on her feet, probably unable to hear the bell.

Kelli takes a big round

Round 8

Bravely, Suranne comes out for the eighth, but she's shot away, and is immediately on the receiving end of another Kelli Young attack as the champ tries to set her up for the uppercut, which she partially lands. It's not enough to put Suranne down, but it is enough for the referee to step in and protect Suranne from any further punishment.

Kelli Young stopped Suranne Jones in round 8, to retain her BBU welterweight title.

After the fight, Kelli pays tribute to Suranne in her ringside interview, "I knew she'd be tough - but not as tough as that! The girl can punch, for sure, and if she gets herself a bit fitter she'll be even more of a handful! As for me - yeah I felt OK even after she put me on the floor. I'd like some international exposure next up, and maybe a fight with Sabrina Washington - there's not much of a weight difference, and a winner takes all fight makes sense!"
