The flyweights look to kick things off, as Hollyoaks blonde Gemma Merna takes on former EastEnder and Strictly Come Dancing champion Kara Tointon. Gemma, a former Flyweight champion, seems comfortable with the matchup, while Kara looks to gain a much needed win to improve upon her lackluster record.

Gemma looks good in black while Kara turns heads in red.


Round 1:
Gemma starts off quick, getting into Kara with hard body shots. Kara hangs tough, however, counter-punching wisely whenever Gemma commits too much to the body. As the round goes on, it seems to be Gemma that is getting the worse of the exchange, her punches beginning to lack power as she begins to back away, startled by jab after jab from Kara. Gemma looks to change her tactics, but Kara's guard is high and strong, brushing shots aside as she continues to fire back with her own, catching Gemma blinking with a particularly nasty right hook. Gemma begins jabbing back more quickly, getting in a few good shots, but Kara has worked up a rhythm that she continues to the bell.

Kara's round, as Gemma seemed too intent on damaging the body to box wisely.


Round 2:
Kara starts off the round with her jabbing and poking once again, leather often finding face even as Gemma tries to cover up. Gemma seems agitated, wanting to be aggressive but paying for it. She finally begins to box more defensively, hiding behind her gloves to lessen the impact of Kara's shots, then countering with the occasional jab of her own. Kara continues to be the aggressor, looking for an opening anywhere she can and punching even if not, seemingly hoping to wear Gemma down simply by sheer force alone. The rest of the round follows as the same, with Kara trying to break down Gemma's defense, but the blonde stays strong and minimalizes impact.

Close round, given to Kara simply because of her aggression landing her more shots.


Round 3:
The round starts much the same way as the last ended, though now it's Kara finding her punches beginning to lack power as she's simply tiring herself out. Her number of punches dramatically decreases, as now Gemma is poking around her defense, landing shots of her own to the face that find Kara fumbling to protect. Gemma backs Kara into the ropes with a quick jab, followed by a left hook, causing Kara to lean a little too far back as she tries to defend and allowing Gemma free shots to the body. Kara begins to double over from a particularly nasty shot, but Gemma shoves her upright again, unloading with a few more deep shots to the gut that sends Kara folding to the mat. She's up at the count of 6, though she's shaky, and can only cover up until the bell as Gemma unloads on her again.

A big round for Gemma, who may have very well evened it up.


Round 4:
Gemma is now the aggressor once again, pounding into that body with every chance she gets, causing Kara to gasp out with a garbled "Guh!" every time Gemma's fist pounds into her. Kara finds herself in the ropes once more, huddling down low and tucking her elbows in to attempt to lessen the damage. Gemma takes the opportunity to punch around her right elbow, sneaking in a kidney shot that causes a squeal to escape Kara's mouth and her knees to buckle. She manages to stay upright long enough to clinch, stopping Gemma's onslaught for only a few seconds before she pushes her away, catching her with a jab that snaps her head back, then digging two rights straight into the body that once again sends Kara to the floor. Kara's back up at 9, though she has a tough time convincing the referee to let the fight continue. Regardless, it does, and Kara covers up to soak in more punishment at the ropes, throwing the occasional jab to show that she's still in it.

Another big round for Gemma. Kara's heart seeming to be the only thing keeping her going.


Round 5:
Kara seems hesitant to leave her corner, breathing hard and clearly hurt, but she does, coming in slowly and trying to keep her distance from Gemma. Gemma, on the other hand, smells blood, coming in strong and going right back to that body. Kara wails with each hit, tears coming to her eyes, but she refuses to go down, clinching to the best of her ability. Gemma breaks away, looking for the body some more, but is suddenly rocked by a jab that she didn't see coming. Kara notices the chance and begins to unload with desperate rights and lefts, crying out with effort as she pounds Gemma back into the corner, now taking her turn to go to the body. Gemma drops her hands, completely shell-shocked by the sudden barage, and Kara goes back to the face, catching her with two right hooks and a few more jabs before the bell rings, saving Gemma.

Round goes to Kara, who is in bad shape, but may have done enough damage to get back into the fight.


Round 6:
Both girls now look pretty banged up, now, though it's Gemma that is still moving better. She comes in more cautiously, keeping her hands up and shooting the occasional weak jab into Kara's face. Kara keeps stepping in, however, looking for an opening, and answering with a counter-punch here and there of her own. One exchange ends up looking dangerous for Kara, as she misses with a right that leaves her open for a right hook from Gemma, swiveling her head around, but not quite having enough power to send her down. As the round starts to wind down, both girls begin to clinch, neither looking like they have the energy to go for much longer.

Close round to Gemma for the hook, which was possibly the only true clean punch of the round.


Round 7:
Neither Gemma or Kara seem to want to go for the first shot, each slowly circling the other while keeping their hands up. Finally, Gemma moves in, looking for a shot to Kara's unprotected body, but Kara rocks her with a jab as she leans in, snapping Gemma's head back and causing her legs to wobble. Kara stays on offense, catching Gemma with a few rights to the face, and then a hard left hook that sends her down to the mat. Gemma seems just about out of it, but is somehow able to find her legs and make it up at the count of 9. She clinches through the last few seconds of the round, wisely keeping Kara from finishing the job.

Kara takes that round, and it's truly anybody's fight at this point.


Round 8:
Another careful start to the round, both girls barely punching. Gemma finally grows frustrated, going to the body in a desperate attempt to sink Kara to the mat. Kara is practically screaming out in pain, though she steels herself, staying rooted and beginning to answer high with counter-punches to Gemma's face that backs the blonde up. Gemma's hands drop, allowing Kara to move in, hitting jab after jab, then winding back and catching Gemma square in the chin with a hard left hook that spins the girl, Gemma wobbling for a moment before crashing to the mat. The referee counts, but Gemma isn't moving all the way to the ten count!

Kara Tointon knocked Gemma Merna out in the eighth round.


Kara Tointon can barely stand, though she smiles excitedly as she's announced the winner before being lead to her corner. "Nobody expected me to win, and Gemma's a hell of a competitor... But I couldn't give up. I'm getting tougher, I think, and I really think I'll have what it takes to be something big before long. Don't count me out yet!" she says breathlessly, still trying to smile even as she winces in pain. Her hard-fought victory kicks things off with Double A Boxing leading 1-0, proving she's every bit an Angel.
