BBU STABLE TOURNAMENT: PRELIMINARY ROUND

Posted by Abby Garnet on 10/7/2011, 5:32 am

The second qualifying fight for the BBU Bantamweight Tournament is between Amy Nuttall of Double A Boxing and Foxfire Atlantic's Jodi Albert. Both girls look confident entering the fight, practically staring lasers through each other as neither backs down.

Amy wears a black leather bikini for the fight, while Jodi's in a dark blue one.

Round 1:

The two circle each other early on, throwing the occasional jab, but neither wanting to take a chance. Finally, Amy leads in with her jab, catching Jodi with two quick lefts to the face, then following up with a strong right to the body. Jodi counters, catching Amy with a quick jab, but Amy shrugs it off and steps away, causing Jodi to whiff at the air before her. Amy continues to use her agility to her advantage, playing a game of hit and run as she peppers Jodi with the occasional combination to the face, then dances away just out of her range. This continues for the rest of the round, Jodi unable to find a way to break up Amy's rhythm.

Amy's round, as she has easily set the pace.

Round 2:

More hit and run from Amy, as Jodi seems to still be floundering about for any kind of answer. Amy's got a great rhythm going, slowly but surely weakening her. Step in, right-left, duck away, repeat. Jodi's face is beginning to redden from the constant abuse as she tries desperately to cover up, simply causing Amy to work in hooks to get around the guard. Amy's progress is slow, but definitely effective, as she still seems full of energy by the round's end, while Jodi's right eye is beginning to swell.

Amy takes the second round, Jodi still unable to come up with an answer to her offense.

Round 3:

Amy comes in quick again, but Jodi is much less eager to give her a target, as she covers up instead of even trying to box back. Amy continues to rain down blow after blow, but they're now beginning to have less effect, mostly bouncing harmlessly off of Jodi's guard. Amy begins to linger in closely for longer periods of time, putting more power into her punches. She tries to hook around Jodi's guard, but it's swatted away, Jodi counter-hooking with her left and catching Amy completely by surprise. Amy's caught off guard, not expecting the power behind Jodi's punch. Jodi follows up with a few shots to the body, nearly doubling Amy over, then clipping her chin with an uppercut and straightening her right back up. Surprisingly, Amy's able to steady her legs and get her guard up, protecting her face and allowing shots to the body, counter-punching with the occasional jab to keep Jodi from getting in too close.

Jodi's round, though it's apparent that she's going to have to work really hard to take Amy down.

Round 4:

Both girls move in slowly, each hesitating to make a move, until finally Amy steps in, leading with two quick lefts to the face. Jodi answers right back with a left hook, and it's on! Both girls toss better judgment aside, hammering away on the other with every open shot they can get. They trade blows for several seconds, each landing several good shots, before Amy goes low, shaking Jodi with a few strong rights to the body, then pushing the girl upright with her left hand and slugging her across the face with a right hook not once, not twice, but three times! The third sends Jodi spinning to the mat. She pushes herself up to the count of 8, but her legs seem just about gone, a desperate clinch being the only thing to get her to the bell.

A huge round for Amy, as she wins out in what ended up being an utter slugfest.

Round 5:

Jodi's able to make it out of her corner on unsure legs, but her left eye is just about swollen closed. Amy moves in, taking a few light jabs to the face, but there's no longer any power behind them. Jodi moves her guard up, trying desperately to protect the left side of her face as Amy tries to target it, but she compensates by forcing a left hand through her gloves, splitting them and sending Jodi's head snapping back. Amy follows with a few more, rocking Jodi's head back and sending her to the ropes, then ripping rights to the ribs, dropping Jodi's hands as she rears back and devastates her with a hard left hook to the jaw that splats Jodi to the mat. She's unmoving, staring up at the lights as the 10 count passes her by.

Amy Nuttall knocked Jodi Albert out in Round 5.

Amy Nuttall moves on to face Alesha Dixon, grinning broadly as she looks at the downed Jodi. "She couldn't hang with me. I'm a former Bantamweight Title holder... I was way out of her league. It won't be long before I've got it again!"
