BBU STABLE TOURNAMENT: PRELIMINARY ROUND

The first preliminary fight of the BBU Championship tournament in the welterweight division features Sophie Howard (Lioness Club) and Jaye Jacobs (Foxfire Atlantic Boxing). The fight is scheduled for ten rounds.

Round 1:
It's a very aggressive start from both girls who seem to think they're both favored to win this contest. A flurry of punches from Howard meets equally vicious approach from Jacobs. Lots of punches miss the target though with one or two crashing off the other girl's gloves. No breakthrough early on and both women step back and circle around the ring. They stare at each other with an anxious look on their faces before Jacobs steps in and tries a low combination that lands on Howard's ribs. The Lioness girl was slow to react and Jaye jumps on her with a fine uppercut between her gloves. It skims off Sophie's nose and the follow up misses the head as Howard ducked low for cover. Jacobs tries some jabs but Howard clinches and pushes her away. Jaye looks confident enough for more attack but Sophie covers her jabs and dishes some of her own. Jacobs steps back and allows Howard to counter, but Sophie's punches make no real impression on the Foxfire girl.
Round 2:
Sophie steps in on her rival with a low combination and catches Jaye in the ribs. She tries to pummel her again, but Jaye clinches and pushes her away. Howard is confident she can do some damage in this round and swings at Jacobs one by one however Jaye easily cuts her off with a high guard and delivers a response to Sophie's ribs. No protection whatsoever down low for Howard and she gets punished hard as Jaye's punches all land on target causing Howard to moan in pain. Jaye spots the advantage and jumps right in front of her foe where she can work her over with a barrage of punches. Jacobs easily lands several blows on Howard's midsection and a couple to the head as well. Sophie escapes to the corner but Jacobs is brutally making her presence felt. Finally Sophie can't take it anymore and goes down in the corner! Jaye with a big smile on her face as the referee counts her to eight. Howard with a determined look in her eyes gets up and tries a wild swing at Jacobs that misses by a mile. Jaye steps in to finish the job but the bell bring the round to a close.
Round 3:
Jaye thinks she's got Sophie at her mercy but needs to think again as Howard bursts forward in Round Three. A barrage of punches sends Jacobs in the corner and Sophie lands some big punches on her opponent's ribs and chest. Jaye covers her face with a high-guard but Sophie can punch her ribs at will instead. However Jacobs escapes trouble by clinching with her rival as Howard was slow in execution. They go back to center of the ring and it's more free-for-all punchfest between these two welterweights. For Sophie's every two jabs, Jaye dishes out one more and soon it's Howard who is pushed back into her corner. Jaye is breathing heavily but her punches finally break the other girl's guard and Sophie's face is showing a lot of bruises. With thirty seconds remaining on the clock Jaye lands another big uppercut that catches Howard straight in the jaw and Sophie goes down on her knees for the second time! She beats the count with some trouble and clinches immediately after the resume. Jacobs is upset, punches her at the back of the head and gets a warning. The tempers are flying high in the dying moments of Round Three and even after the bell, Jacobs keeps pounding Howard's stomach. She gets another warning and waives her glove at the referee. She returns to her stool in fiery mood while there is some serious work being done on Sophie's left eye which is swollen badly.
Round 4:
Jacobs goes all-in once again and unleashes a barrage of punches that catch Sophie right from the start. However this time there's no response from Howard who took a lot of punishment in the previous rounds. Jaye seems to be in a much better shape and Howard looks tired and slow already. It's all one-way traffic in the fourth round with Jacobs in complete control punching the helpless Howard left, right and center. One minute on the clock and a crushing uppercut sends Sophie flat out on the floor! Jaye waives her gloves in victorious gesture but wait, Howard gets up at the eight count. Referee obviously hasn't seen enough and allows the fight to continue. However Jaye sends a devilish right hook that catches Sophie in the side of the head and ten seconds after she got up, Howard hits the canvas again for the fourth time in total. This time it's all over. Referee counts the motionless Sophie to ten and calls the fight a day. Crushing KO win for Jaye Jacobs in R4!
Post-Fight:
Sophie Howard needs to be escorted off the ring as she suffered a very bad knock-out defeat. Her face tells it's own story, a badly swollen eye, a cut on the cheek and just above the jaw. Jaye Jacobs on the other hand looks like a true winner, only a small laceration on the cheek and a big smile on her face. In the quarterfinals she now meets the current BBU Welterweight and former Lightweight champion Sabrina Washington in what will be a much tougher fight where Washington will be heavily favored for a KO victory herself.
