BBU Stable Welterweight Tournament: Quarterfinals

The next bout in the Welterweight tournament pits Alex Curran of the Lioness Club against Abbey Clancey of Kear's Kats.

Alex wears a pink one piece, while Abbey's in a baby blue bikini.

Round 1:

Both girls move in cautiously, circling each other without much action for several seconds. Each throws the occasional tentative jab, mostly catching nothing but glove, until Abbey steps forward, following more strongly with a left jab that splits Alex's mitts. Abbey continues to follow up, now feeding combinations into Alex's guard, the occasional punch getting through. Alex keeps her guard up, looking for any chance to counter-punch, but Abbey's sudden aggression keeps her on her toes for the rest of the round.

Abbey's round, though neither seems to want to box.

Round 2:

Round two begins much in the same way that round one ended, with Abbey trying to break through Alex's guard up top. The occasional punch breaks through, Alex's face beginning to redden from the now more constant abuse. Still, she refuses to commit, however, only offering the occasional strike in return. Abbey begins to press her more closely, now alternating between the body and the face. She pumps a few shots into the body, causing Alex's guard to drop, then connects with a quick jab to the face. She continues this, Alex offering very little in the way of retaliation through the end of the round.

Abbey's round again. She's getting more confident.

Round 3:

Abbey practically dashes across the ring, meeting Alex quickly with body shots, then moving back up to the face and repeating, a constant flurry backing Alex up into the corner. She continues the pace, punching wildly into Alex's guard, often cracking through and landing some good shots. Alex manages to clinch, though Abbey continues to fire in body shots. She shoves Alex away, still continuing her flurry as Alex tries desperately to cover. As the round continues, however, Abbey begins to slow down, her punches still landing, but with less power. Suddenly, Alex grins, catching Abbey with a hard jab to the face that snaps the girl's head back. She hops in, churning punch after punch to the body of Abbey, the girl gasping out in shock and pain. She clinches, managing to hang on to the bell.

Abbey's round, though she seems to have tired herself out, providing the opening Alex seemed to be waiting for.

Round 4:

Now it's Alex's turn to roar out of her corner, meeting Abbey with more shots to the body, almost doubling the girl over. She moves upward, snapping a jab to Abbey's face, then sinking a hard right into her gut, sending Abbey wilting to the mat. She manages to push herself up at 8, but is visibly exhausted and hurt. It's not long before Alex is all over her once again, straightening her up with a clipping right hook to the chin, then catching her with a combination to the face that sends the girl down again, this time with no answer as she's counted out.

Alex Curran knocked Abbey Clancey out in the fourth round.

Alex's strategy proves fruitful as she simply outlasts Abbey, luring the girl into a false sense of security and causing her to waste all of her energy. Alex moves on.
