Here are the results from the October AWUBA event.

Bantam Title: Miranda Kerr (ch, Downunder) KO3 over Yasmin Dowling (non celeb ch). The owner of the newly formed BronzedOz Boxing stable put her undisputed championship on the line against the current celebrity champion Miranda Kerr. It was an off night for YassieD who was knocked out early in the first and never fully recovered. Miranda is at the top of her game at the moment and now holds claim to the Undisputed Champion title.

Bantam: Rhiannon Fish UD10 over Jessica Marais (Downunder). In her first fight back since Jessica Schwarz (Lioness Club) put her in hospital, Marais controlled the fight until round 7 before Fish took over from a tired Marais. A couple of knockdowns in the 9th and another in the 10th swung the points decision in the right direction for Fish as she desperately tries to get back to winning form and win her first Bantam title.

Bantam: Michala Banas KO3 over Poppy Montgomery (AWUBA debut, Downunder). The biggest shock of the night occurred when the pint sized Michala Banas knocked out Poppy Montgomery in devastating fashion. In Poppy's defense she had just returned from her FCBA PPV loss to Olivia Munn. Needless to say her loss to the last ranked Banas was not the best start to her AWUBA career. The victory is the first for Banas in 10 fights and launches her 3 spots in the Bantam rankings. Banas, not known for her power but for her speed, show electrifying hands proving too quick for the older Montgomery knocking her down for a 4th and final time halfway through the 3rd.

Superbantam Title: Danni Minogue (und ch, Downunder) UD10 over Lyndsey Anic. Perhaps the most epic battle of the night between the undisputed champion and one of the greatest non celeb fighters in the AWUBA. Danni Minogue continues to dominate the division with her 10th straight victory but her rain of knockout wins was brought to a close. A gallant Anic knocked Minogue down twice in the final round only to lose the fight on a very close point’s decision.

Superbantam: Sam Schoers KO4 over Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Downunder). Sam Schoers easily accounted for Natalie Bassingthwaighte in the 4th to set up an opportunity to regain her title from Minogue. Bassingthwaighte is not in a good space at the moment after suffering her 4th straight loss since joining Downunder. She has put it down to the strenuous hours involved in judging on Australia’s XFactor, however Baudo is not excepting any excuses.

Superbantam: Esther Anderson (Wildetime) KO2 over Samara Weaving. This battle of Aussies soap stars from Home And Away ended in tears as the in form Esther Anderson tore Samara Weaving apart. Anderson is next in line for a title fight should Schoers be unsuccessful at knocking Minogue off her mantle.

Superbantam: Madeleine West KO2 over Lara Bingle (BronzedOz). One of the ugliest knockouts of the night came at the blistering gloves of Madeleine West as Lara Bingle suffered a bone crunching hook to the jaw which ended her night. West completes a double of impressive knockouts and is shaping up as a real contender for a title shot.

Superbantam: Lisa Gormley UD10 over Kristy Hinze (Wildetime). The Superbantam class continued to impress as a standout division on the night with another Home And Away star winning in fine fashion. Gormley managed to overcome Hinze late in the fight with a gutsy hard fought win.

Superbantam: Isla Fisher (BronzedOz) UD10 over Jessica McNamee. Isla’s recent return to form has seen her earn a spot at BronzedOz and a solid UD10 over her younger and taller opponent saw to it that YassieD made the right choice.

Superbantam: Rebecca Breeds KO7 over Melissa George (Wildetime). The new saw out the old in another Home And Away battle with the talented up and comer Breeds showing the old H&A favorite the way. George wasn’t disgraced, beaten by a girl 12years her junior who is in her prime.

Feather Title: Zoe Ventoura (und ch, BronzedOz) UD10 over Kat Stewart. This rematch was heralded as the fight of the week and it didn’t disappoint. Ventoura retained her crown, denying Stewart the chance to regain her title and also putting another rematch well beyond doubt.

Feather: Felicity Urquhart UD 10 over Nicky Whelan (BronzedOz). Urquhart clinched a very close point’s decision against Whelan. Urquhart, a successful Aussie country music singer, has taken the AWUBA world by storm and now faces off with Ventoura for the title. Her rise to the top, if successful, will be the stuff of legends.

Feather: Natalie Imbruglia (BronzedOz) KO3 over Rebecca Judd. Not even the support of AFL husband Chris Judd, and the entire Carlton Football Club could, could save Rebecca from a brutal KO at the hands of Imbruglia. After losing last month in a shocking round 1 KO, Imbruglia proved to her new stable and to the AWUBA faithful that she is still a force to be reckoned with. The veteran of 39 title wins is slowly creeping back into contention.

Feather: Margot Robbie (AWUBA debut) UD10 over Bec Hewitt. Margot Robbie recently announced a contract signing with HMK, much to BronzedOz owner YassieD’s dismay. Her debut with the AWUBA wasn’t overly impressive as she dug her way through a UD win over the wife of Aussie tennis legend Llyeton Hewitt. The last ranked Hewitt dominated the fight until the final rounds when Robbie finally hit her straps and knocked her down twice.

Superfeather title: Rachael Finch (Wildetime) TKO3 over Krystal Forscutt (ch, BronzedOz). Rachael the new champion. It has been often argued the Forscutt is too heavy for Superfeather, hence her domination and lengthy reign at the top. She was made look pedestrian at times by the flashy Finch whose popular victory brings up her 50th title as she ever so slowly edges towards Emily Scott as the all-time greatest Superfeather. Forscutt misses her chance at a title fight as Finch challenges non-celeb Sinead Mowday for the Undisputed title.

Superfeather: Natalie Gruzlewski (Wildetime) UD10 over Holly Valance (Downunder). In her first fight since joining her new stable, Downunder Boxing, Holly Valance couldn’t overcome the much fancied Natalie Gruzlewski. The hard hitting Gruzlewski had a point to prove in similar vain to Imbruglia and nothing was going to stop her from gutting it out to the finish. Valance showed signs of her 06 form but was up against a far more determined fighter on the night.

Superfeather: Erin McNaught (BronzedOz) KO3 over Tabrett Bethell (Wildetime). Tickets were hard to come by for this battle between these two AWUBA superstars recently signed to their respective Aussie stables. Erin McNaught continues to knock out the big names and looms alongside Gruzlewski as a big threat to the title. The more skillful Bethell couldn’t handle slightly taller opponent and was knocked out cold in the 3rd.

Superfeather: Phoebe Tonkin (BronzedOz) KO3 over Jolene Anderson. Tonkin was simply too good for Anderson and justified the decision of YassieD to take her on.

Superfeather: Jacinda Barrett (BronzedOz) KO7 over Nicole da Silva. Only Jacinda’s 2nd fight back from injury but did her new stable owner and trainers proud with a devastating 7th round KO of her younger opponent.

Superfeather: Diana Corcoran UD10 over Sami Lukas. Diana’s impressive climb up the Superfeather rankings took another leap after this gutsy win over Lukas. Another of the converted country singers, Diana has moved from last (28th) to 23rd in the last two months.

Light Title: Elle MacPherson (Downunder) TKO7 over Abbie Cornish (ch, Downunder). Elle is the new champ. Elle has slowly picked off the best of the best capping it off with this clinical TKO victory of Cornish to regain the AWUBA Lightweight after 3 years. Elle is just one title win away from taking back the top of the pop mantle from Jen Hawkins. She is undefeated since joining Downunder.

Light: Renae Wauhop KO3 over Jennifer Hawkins (Downunder). Possibly the upset of the night, Wauhop got the better of Hawkins early in the fight to dash everyone’s hope of the dream matchup between MacPherson and Hawkins to see who is the greatest. Wauhop showed why she is the biggest threat to MacPherson with the destruction of our AWUBA favourite, but she won’t get a chance at the title next month as MacPherson takes on non-celeb Melinda Piper for the Undisputed Title.

Light: Penny Higgs (Wildetime) TKO4 over Sophie Faulkner. The So You Think You Can Dance contestant answered critics who asked “So You Think You Can Fight” with an emphatic victory of Sophie Faulkner. The woman once touted as the future heir to the “greatest” mantle was dismantled by Higgs as these two continue to go win for win in their head to head battles. Higgs is sure to impress at FCBA level.

Light: Zoe Naylor TKO4 over Delta Goodrem (BronzedOz). It was a slap in the face to Naylor to hear she missed the cut in the lightweight selections at Wildetime and BronzedOz. And she proved why she should be there by stopping when of the ladies contracted as a welter. Naylor “nailed” Goodrem with a vicious jab at the start of the 4th round which opened up a nasty cut. The ref had to end the fight. Rest assured Naylor’s hopes of joining the FCBA are still alive but it may be a longer journey through.

Light: Amber Lawrence TKO5 over Tania Zaetta (Wildetime).
If Naylor was upset then Amber Lawrence was ropable at missing out on a spot at Wildetime. She got her revenge against one of the lightweights which kept her out defeating another big international fighter. Rounding out the trio of Aussie country music stars making it big in the AWUBA, Lawrence showed the veteran of 43 title fights why knocking out Strahovski in round 2 with nothing to laugh at. Although there is top to tail talent in the lightweight ranks, Amber Lawrence has once again sent shockwaves through the division and is by far the hottest new talent in the AWUBA.

Light: Jane Allsop KO2 over Yvonne Strahovski. For the second time in as many months, Strahovski fell unconscious at the feet of her opponent in the second round. It is becoming rarer to see Strahovski win than it is lose after sliding from title holder to 19th since January this year. Her 9th defeat on the trot, the 8th by KO, has Australian journo’s querying two things. What of the quality of opponent in the FCBA? Or are the Aussies that good? Take nothing away from Jane Allsop. She put Strahovski down within 20 seconds in round 1, with a beautiful straight jab which split her nose open. Strahovski went down again midway through the first and was assaulted to the bell. The ref nearly called it off as her corner frantically worked on her severely split nose. The barrage of punches to resume the 2nd was too much for Strahovski and the right hook to the temple was a bitter finale for the former champ.
Light: Peta Wilson KO8 over Nicole Kidman. One of many rematches to take place over the week, this ended the way most had thought their initial match would. The skill we had anticipated would be too much for Kidman eventually shun through this time in and Peta Wilson put Kidman out late in the 8th.

Light: Brooke McClymont UD10 over Sam McClymont. Brooke was too good for her sister, controlling the fight from woe to go with a unanimous point’s decision. It was lovely to see the amount of respect shown throughout the fight. There were a couple of knockdowns in the fight with neither girl shying away.

Superlight title: Sonia Kruger (und ch, BronzedOz) TKO1 over Nikki Visser (Downunder). Sonia was simply amazing, defending her title with an early knocked down followed by a barrage of punches that Nikki could simply do nothing about. The ref stopping a rampaging Sonia Kruger from doing any more damage to the AWUBA great. Sonia’s 51st title reconfirmed why she is the hottest property in the BronzedOz stable. Now that Jen Hawkins fights at light, Jen’s history making 38 superlight titles are under threat.

Superlight: Erica Heynatz (Wildetime) TKO1 over Simmone Jade McKinnon. Erika to good. Not much more we can say. She has 46 titles to her name and some would say that at 35 her November title fight against 46 year old Kruger is her best chance at a title since late 2007. Her single punch destruction of McKinnon will go down in history for many reasons, but no one will forget the power behind that punch. Some of our North American friends may remember McKinnon from her days on Baywatch….there was no bad acting about the way she hit the mat.

Welter Undisputed Title: Amanda Grafham UD10 over Michelle Bowden. This is a non-celeb fight but worth a mention due to the fact that Grafham retained the title which she has successfully defended 7 times. We talk of MacPherson and Hawkins and their battle for supremacy, but Grafham’s welter reign is unmatched and her upcoming title bout against Michelle Bridges could potentially make her the all-time greatest welter weight. Veteran Bowden was not disgraced having recently returned from having her first child.

Welter Title: Michelle Bridges (ch. Downunder) TKO3 over Megan Gale. Megan set up this fight after her domination of Sam Stosur but perhaps she met her match. Bridges extends her reign to 7 and paves the way for the dream matchup with Grafham. Gale couldn’t handle the power this time around, outgunned by the Biggest Loser trainer in every facet of the fight.

Welter: Gina Jefferies KO1 over Gemma Ward. Another country music star win with Jefferies destroying her much younger opponent. Jefferies gave away 19 years and 2in height and reach. It didn’t matter. Jefferies used Ward as a punching bag from the outset and the resulting knockout made people turn away as the ambulance came ringside to cart Ward away.

Middle: Sarah Murdoch (und ch. Downunder) TKO1 over Belinda Kneebone. Sarah Murdoch continues her dominance of this division with her 6th defense of the title.
