Fergie might be the same height as Shakira, but she's a bigger, meatier human being entirely. Shakira’s a quick little boxer though, and if she gets in first, she can cause the American some trouble.

Into the ring they come, and Fergie’s in a black one piece outfit, with Shakira in a gold bikini.

Round 1:

Shakira’s working well from the start, and she’s outpacing Fergie, rapping nice jabs off the bigger girl’s face, and nipping her to the body, keeping her girl on the defensive. Fergie’s covering up well, not getting hurt, but work isn’t as quick as Shakira, and she takes time to close the Combian down. Late in the round, Fergie starts landing heavy hooks to the slighter girl’s ribs, but it’s not not enough to steal the round, taken by Shakira.

Round 2:

Shakira starts the round well, getting around the ring quickly, and snapping out good punches at the rather pedestrian Fergie, who’s on the receiving end of a lesson – Shakira’s sending out some lovely, ripping body punches in this round, and mixing it up with a few neat flurries to the head and shoulders. Fergie’s face is getting reddened by Shakira’s constant attention, and she barely lands a punch in the round, which is well controlled by an effervescent Shakira.

Round 3:

This is getting embarrassing for Fergie as the nimble Shakira continues to outbox her, and make her look foolish, constantly taking the bigger girl around the ring, dancing and jigging as she smacks her punches into any area she can find, face, body, whatever, and Fergie just doesn’t have enough hands to stop the punches landing in her face, which is beginning to bruise. Shakira is now just overwhelming Fergie, keeping the bigger woman on the back foot, just covering up to keep her off, and take another one-sided round.

Round 4:

Once more we’re seeing Shakira putting on an exhibition of boxing against Fergie – if only she had a big punch she could maybe finish the American off. The little girl is just bouncing her gloves off Fergie’s face now, but she’s using a lot of energy, dancing, skipping and almost running around the ring as she keeps up a frantic pace, while Fergie bides her time, occupying the ring, aiming a few shots into Shakira’s body, but still aunable to land for the third consecutive round. At the bell, a buoyant Shakia is so upbeat, just shimmying back to her corner - she's running away with this thing, and she knows it – this looks like a major upset to start the evening.

Round 5:

The tempo’s beginning to slow a little, and for the first time, Fergie starts to get the fight working on her terms, closing little Shakira into a corner, and there’s a first thumping toe-to-toe exchange between the girls, with Fergie landing some hard shots to Shakira’s body, making the girl squeak, and Fergie’s settling herself down, working the Colombian hard to the ribs and flanks, and her puches really hurt – the girl’s a big one in this divison, and, come the bell, she’s got the better of Shakira for the first time, and she sends her to her corner hurt, at last taking a round off her.

Round 6:

Shakira hasn’t really recovered completely during the break, and she’s a little slow out of the trap this time round, doing her best to be evasive, but it’s not working that well against a powerful puncher like Fergie, who’s just walking her down, beating her up when she can, smacking the girl’s body for fun, then giving her face the once over. As Shakira struggles to protect herself, Fergie lands some heavy shots to her body puts her down in the second minute for a 7 count. She rises, but takes a bad beating along the ropes and just stays there until the bell. Fergie gets a big round win, there.

Round 7:

Shakira's legs come to her rescue- the girl got badly hurt in 6, and now she’s running, dancing and skipping away, keeping out of Fergie’s reach, and forcing the bigger girl to chase her, rather lumbering in her moves, almost clumsy. Fergie doesn't cut the ring down as quickly as she needs to if she’s to nail her girl, and there’s not much action to report as Shakira gets herself together again, recovering from that earlier battering, but it’s Fergie’s round again.

Round 8:

Now Shakira elects to stop running and engage. Are these the right tactics for the smaller girl? Possibly not – the girls swap blows in mid ring with a short session of spirited toe-to-toe slugging, but Shahira gets hurt when Fergie lands a solid right hook to her mouth, follows up with another, then smacks her face first one way, then the other in turn with left and right hand punches, and Shakira goes down again, this time getting an 8 count. Again the Colombian gets up and rallies, only to suffer a terrible beatdown along ropes, as Fergie hammers her to the ribs and flanks, the smaller girl squealing in pain, the bell ending her torture – another bog round for Fergie.

Round 9:

This has been a hard fight, and Fergie is visibly tired now, having used up a lot of energy in trying to knock little Shakira out, although she’s still aggressive, still taking the fight to the smaller girl. Poor Shakira’s been really battered in this matchup, but she’s stubborn, still finding herself getting pinned to the ropes, but the Colombian fights her way out of trouble, papping shots into Fergie’s body, moving her backwards, and defiantly thudding some great shots, onlt to be rebuffed once more with the American landing some more hard and telling blows to her swollen face, as she nicks the round.

Round 10:

Fergie’s a little too winded to go for the ooutright knockout now, and she resorts to pushing, poking and prodding the battered Shakira around the ring, constantly looking to hound the girl to ropes and pummel her to the body. Shakira won’t lie down though, and she fights back – the cause is hopeless, maybe, but she’s gaining huge respect by refusing to go quietly and she competes hard in every minute of a close final round.

The girls embrace after the fight, with Fergie chivalrously raising Shakira’s hand, but the result is inevitable – Fergie beat Shakira on points. The margin was wide on all 3 judges cards.

That was an aggressive performance from Fergie, but she’ll need to find that bit extra if she’s to be the contender she considers herself to be.
