BOXING AFTER DARK

Before: “I’m still competitive in light and welter elite boxing”, Eva explains. “I really consider it some sort of mission to school these young girls. There’s nothing more embarrassing for them than to lose to a woman more than ten years older. It’s all these pretty starlets’ ultimate nightmare. I’ve proven I can compete with Missy Peregrym for ten rounds – so why should I fear Amanda?” Larue goes on to mention their two previous fights, in 2004 (Righetti’s debut) and 2005: “She’s beaten me in her debut because I wasn’t fully recognizing her potential, maybe underrated her a bit. I changed that in our follow-up fight. Remember that, guys? KO freaking 1! They say Amanda’s gotten much better throughout the years, but I’m not so sure. Anyway, I relish the chance to get into action with a successful young fighter. I’ve got nothing to lose.” Amanda makes clear the bitterness of past battles has vanished. “I know Eva hated me when I exposed her in my debut. And when she subsequently beat me, I hated her in turn. But those are things of the past. I’m usually trying not to let personal rivalries enter into my boxing. It makes me less sharp. Still, you could say there’s SOME unfinished business lying here, and Larue’s a true TOP 20, if not TOP 10 name, so she’s definitely a legit threat.“ Larue looking at least ten years younger than her actual age – toned and strong in black bikini, low 130 Ibs range; Righetti in red top, black shorts.

Fight - R1: Larue trying to get into early control with jab-and-go/stick-and-move tactics – carefully avoiding sustained trading with stinging attacks on redhead, moving out of range, hoping to score a lot of points while she’s still fresh. Righetti answering Eva’s attempts by setting up a blistering pace, obviously concerned about Larue’s veteran experience/sneakiness and responds with brutal power to drain Eva’s energy as soon as possible. Amanda able to get into range, relentlessly charging in with swinging rights and fast jabs, not excessively reckless but bold – Larue forced into close contact, has to bang back so she won’t get rolled over. Strong women exchange crowd-pleasing big punches mid-ring, offensively bashing each other’s bodies. Veteran Eva lights it up on Amanda on a few occasions, punching redhead’s chin to good effect, leaving her startled. Round progresses – and Larue’s still not able to get her desired range/distance, starting to suffer from redhead’s stunning body-targeted attacks. Brutal body battle forces Larue into ropes, hurting, back-pedalling. Righetti starts dominating Eva there, keeping her pinned while jabs keep knocking at Larue’s face. Eva frowning, looking a little overwhelmed – she’s bravely punching for room but stunned by Amanda’s controlled aggression. Late in the round: Righetti continues to bombard Eva – redhead throwing a lot of jabs, using a late opportunity when Larue’s starting to get visibly vulnerable: leans in heavily for right hook punches through guard and Larue TAKES A KNEE! Veteran shakes off pain, dizzily rising to beat the count, hovering at the ropes in tight guard for last few seconds of the round. Brutal 10-8 Amanda totally not what Eva’s fight strategy looked like.

R2: Similar look: Righetti hard-eyed, concentrated, squaring away on Larue with strength, taking her body to Eva and engaging in blistering toe-to-toe action. Larue showing resilience, power in subsequent battles mid-ring: girls bash away, and Larue’s able to place some dangerous counters to Amanda’s aggression. Huge right misses Righetti’s head by a purely lucky inch – redhead not willing to back off, though, staying in risky contact while brutally pounding Eva’s flanks, muscling lefts into gut in sickening fashion. Ripping hay-makers exchanged as the round goes on, but Righetti’s constant punches have Eva shuddering in the last minute – no longer able to hang in, she gets slowly driven to ropes, as her oh so proud body is weakened and not-equipped to compete. Larue stays in ropes, hurting, as Amanda’s sweeping in thick overhand rights to chin in the last ten seconds. Larue on sturdy but rocked legs, mouth open, wincing – getting worked over good.

R3: Larue coming out fresh, vibrant: finally using quick legs to assure favoured range. Righetti’s jabs getting less poignant, succinct, she gets a little frustrated when Eva’s out of distance, then stops jabbing at all. Larue grinning, pot-shotting Amanda with sudden rights - when Amanda tries to work her body in systematic fashion, Larue ties her up in grueling hold, sneaking in hurtful punches to stomach/chest in these moments. Redhead concerned to still press forward, stay aggressive, but suffering under Larue’s veteran tactics. Righetti not constructive, looking just a little bit lost at Eva’s clever holding/clutching. Redhead more frustrated – Larue firing thick rights into Amanda’s strong body in tie-ups, drawing silent little moans: that’s some wicked power from Eva in close. Plan works well for Larue – Righetti not getting a single good clean punch to Eva as round progresses, just banging back sloppy. Eva starts jabbing late, stinging ‘em to Amanda’s face, then moves away, holds Amanda’s strong body, forces her to ropes with authority. Righetti a little disheveled at bell – frustrated and trotting back to corner stunned. ‘Jab, Amanda, jab!’ corner tells her, worried.

R4: Righetti pumps stick, able to take initiative back! Larue desperate, trying to regroup, tie ‘Manda up again but she soon has to give ground in draining exchanges. Redhead using powerful jabs to assume control over struggling veteran whose strategy from last round can’t work if she’s not dictating range. Larue stumbling backwards from strong hooks to gut, as fight settles at ropes: Righetti in control. Thudding blasts to body clearly systematic – Amanda’s making this fight about supremacy in fitness and conditioning and legs. Larue’s still in strong-footed stance, slowly going from being defensive in siege to punching herself out of the corner. Redhead not getting the desired effect yet: Larue’s swinging wild, fierce strokes! Strong veteran lashing out haymakers to Amanda’s chin – Righetti has to retreat! Redhead organizing behind her guard, jabbing to keep Eva off. Larue employing stick-and-move again: only works for most of second minute, then Amanda’s jabs start firing her back off against the ropes. Larue slowly giving ground, but fiercely trying to stay actively defensive. Amanda so crisp with jab delivery and follow-up rights – has Larue butt-in-ropes, grimacing in pain, unable to get away or hit clean counters. Righetti calmly extending her body attacks in brutality and effectiveness – withering gut/chest punching visibly drains Eva! Situation like that until the end – Righetti in controlled siege of Eva on ropes. Larue frustrated, slowing down in defense as redhead’s pounding hooks through guard that knock Eva’s head back just right before bell. Larue’s face twisted in agony, stumbles back to corner weakly.

R5: Redhead taking command right off the bell, pouring herself at Eva all body. Larue driven backwards almost immediately, suffering. Once Righetti’s muscled Eva to ropes, the veteran’s getting processed. Larue sluggish, thick and stubborn, leaning forward with her shoulders to bump her way free – sagging back hurt when Amanda’s hacking away with too much strength and force. Amanda shoves short right hands to Larue’s gut yet and yet again – poor Larue is starting to wilt from the sharp targeted pressure. Wide open mouth, Larue, eyes blinking, hurt: clapping hooks, Amanda, searching for Eva’s chin and asking for quit. Larue’s torso lolling on wobbly knees, shaking, but keeping her hands up – poor Eva’s just getting pasted here. Amanda steps closer, extended jabs, throwing wicked rights across waist, stacking Eva up. Larue’s body quits – veteran hard-body rendered helpless, unable to properly defend herself, just hovering adrift, powerless on weakened, battered legs. Pitiful look on Larue – pride and core strength won’t let her go down, but she’s all drowsy and passive - and the ref steps in, concerned about her safety! Larue leaning back into ropes, starring in bleak acceptance: that’s a TKO5 Amanda Righetti!

After: Larue beaten senseless, just not able to handle a very precise, tough Righetti tonight. Righetti respectful in post-fight: “Eva’s very dangerous, but I figured that relentless aggression early on was a good bet to control her. She’s got amazing conditioning for her age, so I wasn’t sure I could bank on her losing steam in the latter rounds. Plus, that’s not really my style. We kinda figured she’d try to avoid close punching in the early rounds, steal some points, and I’m happy I was able to avert that plan.” Larue sorely disappointed, but accepting situation with quiet resignation: “She’s pretty good, yeah. I was hoping to get a lot closer to beating her. She’s not so much of a KO fighter, I think, and so I was trying to stay in for the full ten. But yeah, congrats, she worked out a good plan. I hammered her in our second bout six years ago. Youth is on her side, not necessarily talent.”
