Sarah: So this is our first title fight of the evening and what a fight it promises to be. Danni Minogue is coming off 10 successive wins in the AWUBA, 9 of those by KO. She comes into this the AWUBA Super Bantam Champion, but with the closure of the AWUBA last month, all those titles have been retired. Penny Higgs also has winning form coming off two AWUBA wins by TKO in the first and fourth rounds. She has stopping power. Danni, firstly you, the draw for these title fights was very kind to you and gives you the opportunity to take the title for the first time.

Danni: Yeah absolutely Sarah. I would have been disappointed not to get this opportunity. I think there are better flyweights than Penny Higgs who deserve this shot but you have to fight what you get given and I’ll make sure I remind her that she doesn’t deserve this tonight.

Sarah: Ok and Penny, I mean Danni’s sentiments are felt throughout the media but you’re here and you could walk away the champion tonight.

Penny: I’m a stats girl Sare. Danni has won 37 AWUBA titles and was ranked 25th on the all-time rankings before the AWUBA shut up shop. She’s a great fighter but she isn’t an AWUBA Hall of Famer. My record reads a bit better. Although I was a Lightweight, I’m the equal third greatest Lightweight of all time, 48 titles, only 3 behind the Greatest, Elle MacPherson, and I was ranked 15th at last glance which is 10 places higher than Danni. Oh and by the way, there are only 10 inductees into the AWUBA Hall of Fame and I am one of them. Ask everyone again which of us deserves to be here?

Sarah: Well based on those stats I think there will be a few people reconsidering the articles written recently, but you can’t go against form ladies and Danni Minogue is on the hottest winning streak we have seen in years. I am sticking with my guns and predicting she will walk away the very first ACB Flyweight Champion tonight.

Round 1

The first ACB title fight gets away slowly, none of the tactics these fighters normally display, no early bullying, no early brawling, just two determined flyweights sizing each other up, hunting down the openings and placing the odd jab on the spot through the first minute. Danni taking ground as Higgs fights off her heels, Danni pushing her to the ropes, banging a hard shot in the ribs, Higgs takes it fires a right hook that whizzes past Danni’s nose and she’s quick to bang Higgs on the open ribs. Higgs spinning off the ropes, Danni tracks her crouching low to drive another hook to the mid-section but takes straight jab flush on the mouth followed THRASHING LEFT HOOK that smacks into Danni’s cheek, and she drops to her knees and spills to the canvas. DANNI MINOGUE DOWN mid-ring. Staring blankly at her corner, Danni slow to a feet at 8. AND HERE COMES PENNY HIGGS, pouring punches onto Danni’s high guard, Danni can’t move her legs. Higgs smacking her the stomach, RIGHT UPPERCUT HIGGS!, Danni teetering, BLISTERING LEFT HOOK right on the cheek at DOWN GOES DANNI once again! This time she falls cross legged to a seating position, trying to push herself up and there’s the bell.

Penny: DON’T COME BACK OUT PRINCESS!

Kristy: Dear oh dear Kylz, Danni took a pasting just there. Mid-way through she was looking good but then got stopped right there…..ooohh…..that jab to the mouth knocks her head off its axis and this hook her…..I cannot believe she got up after that.

Kylie: Hard to watch Hinzy that’s for sure. Haven’t seen my sis lose a fight, let alone get knocked down once or even twice in an entire fight, for a very long time. She made the mistake of trying to work the body of Higgs, that wasn’t in the plan.

Kristy: The big question is if she can even get off the stool here. I think you’ll see Higgs end this next round.

Kylie: She’s a tough girl my sis, I am not righting her off just yet.

Round 2

Higgs jogging to Danni, whose still on another planet, just puts her gloves over her head like a helmet as Higgs bangs away, completely knocking Danni this way and that but more pushing than punching. Open slather downstairs as Higgs treats herself to Danni’s torso, blasting her in the stomach and rib cage. Danni backpedalling around the ring but Higgs now traps her in the corner and continues to torment that mid-section. Danni throwing some little jabs out of her helmet like guard, only catching Higgs forearms until one hits chin. Late in the round, Danni finally starts countering the Higgs blows like early in the first, but she opens herself up after missing a lazy hook and Higgs buries a left hook in her ribs that brings the left arm down and she places the RIGHT UPPERCUT precisely on her chin. Danni stumbling to the ropes, a left hook from Higgs misses as a last ditch hook from Danni smacks into Higgs jaw right on the bell.

Kylie: See Hinzy, she hasn’t given up. Took her more than half the round to recover from those vicious knock downs but she worked her way back. Nice scoring shot at the end there.

Kristy: I’m not sure what you saw there Kylz, she was belted again that round. Ok, she came back from the punch drunk stupor she was in and landed a few punches but Higgs just bashed her from pillar to post.

Kylie: She’s my sis and it’s hard to remain impartial.

Round 3

Danni still in a daze, reddened right cheek slightly bruising, Penny charging in again but Danni catches her with a surprise right cross that snaps her head back.

Kylie: WAY TO GO SIS!

Back to the action and Higgs is defending on the back foot as Danni is back to that round 1 form. Very careful this time, hooking the torso, then putting left and right crosses on the Higgs guard, scoring more shots below though. Higgs unable to find that opening now, trading blows on some occasions but taking more than she’s given. Mid-way through, Higgs content to shut up shop, totally defensive, offering nothing, using those elusive dancing feet to stay out of Danni’s reach and skirt away from the close exchanges. Higgs one and only punch is a CRUNCHING RIGHT UPPERCUT. Just plants her feet on one occasion and comes out of the crouching to place it right on the chin again, sending shockwaves through Danni’s legs, shuddering her will on the spot. Higgs now, tracking a Danni who is back in lady gaga land, guard a shambles as Higgs pounds away out her exposed tummy once more, Danni wearing the helmet again, with her head being rocked back by the odd uppercut. The bell sounds to end the round, which Danni had until the final minute.

Kristy: You got a bit excited early there Kylz. Danni torn apart again in that round.

Kylz: Come on Hinzy, up until the final minute she was controlling that. That right uppercut sent shockwaves through her for sure, but she stayed on a feet.

Kristy: Well I hope for your sake she does stay on her feet because if you ask me the writing has been on the wall since the end of the first. She’s cut under the chin now.

Round 4

Danni pre-empting Higgs, out quickly, meeting her mid ring, still looking to work the body. Higgs content to take the shots, swiveling her hips into the blows and flashing the jab at Danni’s openings. Lots of scoring punches for both fighters, Danni landing more to the body than Higgs is to the head. Through the middle and Danni lights Higgs up with left and right cross to the chin and forehead, Danni crouching into solid body blows but Higgs finds that opening again and swipes hook right across Danni’s nose. She bunny hops backwards and wipes away a trickle of blood. Higgs straight in and under driving uppercuts up into Danni’s sternum, her guard a shambles again and Higgs SMACKS THE STRAIGHT JAB into Danni’s nose and there’s more claret now. Danni blinking, guard helmet again, taking a pasting to the belly. KNEE’S ARE GONE! She is only just staying up, Higgs firing ones and twos to her six pack and then a CRUNCHING RIGHT UPPERCUT to the chin and Danni falls against the ropes! She’s soaking it up, dazed and confused, sliding along the ropes. Higgs just can’t put her done, and she’s fading to. Both girls sucking in the big ones and Danni’s see her chance and manages to land a few jabs late, but Higgs matches that and she may have taken that round.

Kylie: A better start to that round by Danni but she has to be more respectful when she is working in close. She keeps leaving herself open and Higgs has some power behind those punches.

Kristy: If you look back over the fight the punches Danni have landed and score with just haven’t had the impact and it all comes back to that first round. She’s lucky she has a solid chin because that uppercut from Higgs would knock anyone else out. I’ve got it 38-32 Kylz.

Kylie: I think Danni thought she could try and knock Penny out that round but it just didn’t happen.

Round 5

HIGGS CHARGES IN! Danni barely out of her corner and Higgs is straight in there, clubbing lefts and rights against Danni’s helmet like guard. Danni trying to escape the ropes but she is just getting bludgeoned back into the corner. Driving jabs into Danni’s six pack, her legs are trembling, she can’t take much more of this, won’t protect her stomach at all, Higgs just waiting for the opening, then picking Danni up with that DEVASTING RIGHT UPPERCUT, Danni’s come 5 inches off her feet, head over the top rope and bobbing back in place with claret dripping from the cut chin. Higgs holding her left shoulder and smacking rights into her ribs, followed by a BLISTERING RIGHT HOOK across the cheek and Danni’s neck snaps right, left right combinations to the body as Danni sinks down the ropes and the Ref steps in….it’s over! The inaugural ACB Flyweight Champion by TKO5 PENNY HIGGS!!

Kristy: Well Kylz has left me and raced over to the ring. Watching the replay Danni’s lights were switched off after this uppercut right here….wow….that was devastating. Kylie left the seat then and left me to handle the rest. Penny Higgs just continuing to break her down and the ref just totally oblivious to the fact the Danni was gone, it should have ended sooner. Then this hook here…..just barbaric that the fight was not stopped. Danni not looking good at all. Up to you Sarah.

Sarah: Penny Higgs, the very first ACB Flyweight Champion, how do you feel?

Penny: This face tells a thousand words. Danni has knocked nearly every AWUBA contender out in her last 10 fights so to come through this with maybe one punch that surprised me, and to knock her out like that, it’s a big message for the other Flyweights.

Sarah: You knocked her down twice in the first and she never recovered from that, was that the plan?

Penny: Obviously you always want to knock your opponent out but that wasn’t the plan at all. I was prepared for 10 rounds tonight, much the way the middle three rounds went. She just lacked power in her punch right from the first few exchanges and I figured if that was all she had then the fight was mine for the taking. As for those knockdowns, that’s just the raw power I have.

Sarah: Well congratulations Penny. Now Danni has been brought around in stages over her and she is just sitting in the corner. We might just try and get a quick comment. Not a pretty sight seeing a champion in the state she is in here. Danni, beaten well tonight, where to from here?

Danni: I’m still trying to figure out what just happened Kimbo so yeah….did it go the distance?

Sarah: It’s Sarah Danni not Kimbo, Sarah Cumming, and no you got obliterated in the 5th. Back to you Kristy.
