Sarah: The first of our Bantams coming out now. This will be a really interesting fight as Natalie Bassingthwaighte is clearly in the worst form of her career. She lost to Alesha Dixon at the Ashes then copped a pasting at the hands of Pilar Rubio at the Lioness Club event. Scherri-Lee Biggs on debut, stepping out of the Miss Universe role and into the ring for the first time tonight. Scherri-Lee, how have you prepared for this?

Scherri: Tania and Kimberley have been patient with me, basically just teaching me the ropes so to speak. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain by jumping in the ring with one of the greatest AWUBA Superbantams. She is out of form and we will be trying to play on that tonight.

Sarah: And NatBass, you must be frustrated with your form of late?

NatBass: I’ll tell you what Sarah, I will be a lot more frustrated if I don’t come away with a win tonight. She might be a lot younger, 15 years I think, but I’ve got all that experience, you know.

Sarah: Ok. Back to you Kylie and Kristy

Round 1

Biggs game against the experienced NatBass, attacking her with hard shots at the head, stepping to and working in close with ripping shots at her ribs. NatBass dancing away, looking ok, using all of the ring, manages to lean away from Biggs advances, and places the odd jab in return. Biggs though continuing to take the fight to her and bangs her head back and forth. NatBass a little more attacking now, clips Biggs chin with a tidy little hook and the debutant skips away, defense at the ready, as NatBass works low and hard at her torso, but she weathers the storm. Final minute see NatBass control the tempo, but Biggs holds up well to the body assault. There’s the bell and NatBass is happy with that.

Kylie: Good round from both girls really. Great to see Biggs to the fight to Nat, particularly with her current state of mind which would be scarred from previous outings.

Kristy: Biggs is a solid Bantam. I’ve watched her sparring with Tania and she can punch hard. She may be a bit nervous so expect to see the power come in in the next round or so.

Round 2

Biggs showing something different, getting in close from the start, banging little jabs into NatBass mid-section, she’s hurt the older girl! Biggs driving a HUGE UPPERCUT into the sternum and NatBass is winding, sucking in a big breathe, buckling over and protecting her head but Biggs springs out of the crouch and crashes a MIGHTY LEFT UPPERCUT right in the face. DOWN GOES NATBASS! Biggs standing there stunned, arms out to her side palm up just looking to her corner and shaking her head. NatBass on hands and knees, blood trickling from the nose, real tears from the eyes. She’s sobbing!! Gets to feet at 7, straightens her apparel and wipes the trickle away. Can the debutant finish her? Full attack from Biggs but NatBass is dancing around, holds her defense together, starts finding little openers where the newcomer is a little disrespectful and forgets she still has to defend. Two full minutes of this and NatBass holds it together well. Biggs just inexperienced. The bell ends the round and Biggs takes it.

Kristy: That’s exactly what I was talking about. NatBass taken down by the sheer power from the punch of Biggs. She should have finished it there and then. I cannot believe NatBass was openly sobbing mid-ring, that’s a very distraught boxer right there. She is still crying as her corner tries to get her under control.

Kylie: It’s been a tough road for Nat. It wasn’t really spoken about in the beginning but there is a huge difference in age here. Scherri is only 21, she may not have the in ring experience but she is probably at her peak in terms of fitness and strength. I know she was expected to finish it there but she should just take her time as her endurance will see her through this.

Round 3

Biggs has NatBass on the back foot, that knockdown is playing on her mind. Biggs working from the outside now, then stepping to and clips NatBass on the nose with a LIGHTNING QUICK RIGHT HOOK. NatBass stopped in her tracks, wobbling back to the ropes. Biggs approaches crab like, bending the knees and twisting into roundhouse hooks at the torso, NatBass taking hard shots, wincing, mouth tight, bloody nose, oh THUNDEROUS RIGHT HOOK sends NatBass sideways and into the corner, as she takes the full glove to the left side her face and catches herself on the top rope. She’s in trouble. Still tears from NatBass. Biggs banging away at her ribs, NatBass unsteady but fighting back with little hooks to the openings, OH LEFT UPPERCCUT BIGGS and NatBass head snaps back and comes back to rest in time for some tidy little one two combos. She shoves Biggs away and manages to slide along the ropes and for the final stages she stumbles around, staying out of the way of the impressive youngsters reach. The bell ends another big round for Biggs.

Biggs: FIGHT ME YOU BIG SOOK!

Kylie: I’m not sure what to make of Nat at the moment. This is pretty much the way all of her fights have gone of late. Except this time she hasn’t really taken the fight on with that dominant style we are used to.

Kristy: This could get ugly. Scherri is roughing her up. The doctor is checking Nat’s nose, it could be broken. I think someone should have a word with Scherri though. She shouldn’t be disrespectful, not on debut. She has a lot to learn still.

Kylie: Nat has to start fighting it on her terms, that’s how she won 30 odd AWUBA titles at this weight.

Round 4

Biggs a little over confident, storms over and walks into a one two combo smacks into her mouth and nose. Really hit for the first time and she is rocked by that. Nat Bass sensing it, still a bit dazed, but bounces to ducking a left hook from Biggs and thrashing her right side with a hard body shot. The youngster crippled as NatBass places a left uppercut on the chin and that pops her head up and a SWIFT RIGHT HOOK lands perfectly on the eye and the youngster stumbles sideways and DOWN GOES BIGGS! NatBass, still teary eyed, but this time out of sheer determination. Biggs quick to her feet but nursing swollen left eye. NatBass charges in and the youngster is actually running away. The Ref and her corner warning her to fight. She gathers herself up but it’s all NatBass to the bell with Biggs offering nothing.

Kristy: A much needed knockdown there and Scherri just got exposed. She has to stay game and brave. You can’t dominate for 3 rounds and then get punched for the first time and run scared.

Kylie: That’s something she will learn after she has been punched hard a few more times. When you get knocked down for the first time, it’s a huge learning curve.

Round 5

The veteran takes control of this. Bell to bell workman like round for NatBass. The youngster staying in the fight but highly defensive and weakened by the knockdown. NatBass just working behind the jab, putting the fight together and finally working it on her terms. Biggs barely throwing anything until the final minute but NatBass is using her punches to push her into the ropes and gets some great work in down below. Then comes upstairs with the left and right cross to the cheeks and the round finishes with Biggs spinning off the ropes and running away again.

Kristy: Ok so now it’s up to the corner to manage this one or maybe things could get really ugly for Scherri-Lee.

Kylie: Maybe a lesson in that for you to Hinzy. How quickly a fight can turn and calling it early can sometimes be a mistake. A long way to go in this fight still, and you’re right, Tania and Kimbo need to get inside Scherri’s head and talk about good old fashion heart.

PART 2

Round 6

The youngster defensive from the outside, NatBass giving her ground but she isn’t taking it. NatBass stepping to, working the jab but Biggs slips it and returns a few of her own. Mid-way through, it’s much of the same but the tempo increase with more punches on offer. Biggs collecting NatBass on the chin with a lovely stiff jab but NatBass comes back with a hard blow to the ribs and clean uppercut that checks her on the right eye. Biggs staying in there though, swaying from her hips and throwing jabs off her shoulders. NatBass mirror like but just seems to be able to land more decisive punches and at the bell, there is a respectful touch of gloves to end the round.

Kristy: I like to see that. Both girls have knocked each other down. One has had a teary eyed battle with herself; the other is learning what it means to fight at the top level. Yet both have now realised they have a battle on their hands and there is still respect for one and others efforts.

Kylie: I would say Kimbo and Tania had a lot to do with that round.

Kristy: Yes, well predicted Kylz.

Round 7

HERE COMES NATBASS! Popping the jab at the youngsters face, hard shots, pushing the high guard aside, busting through with leather smacking against Biggs face. She backs away to her corner, NatBass walloping her stomach, Biggs bending at the waist covering her face but takes a BLISTERING UPPERCUT to the mouth as her head shoots back and her back rest against the ropes, head resting back down and takes a HARD STRAIGHT JAB to the cheek and DOWN GOES BIGGS! Falling stages to a seating position and she is somewhere else. Bloody mouth and a small cut under her left eye. She sits there shaking her head as her corner yell for her to get up. NatBass beating her gloves together at the opposite corner, she’s still teary eyed. Biggs up at 7, breathing heavily, as the ref calls them in and she shifts away from the corner and the ropes to meet NatBass somewhere mid-ring. NatBass straight into it, popping her opponents head back with every punch. Not much from Biggs. She’s taking hard shots, backing away but staying off the ropes. All NatBass all the way to the bell.

Kylie: Huge round there to Nat. She’s controlled the last 4 rounds now and if you include the first she is well up in this fight.

Kristy: Yeah well ahead now with that knockdown and it would take a miracle for Biggs to win her very first fight. I am moved by the emotion of NatBass. Absolute raw emotion shown here, clearly not afraid to show how much this fight means to her.

Round 8

More of the same from NatBass, throws a right up top and Biggs immediately covers up. NatBass treating herself to Biggs stomach, the young six pack taking hard shots but handling well. Lightning fast combinations smacking against the rock hard torso of Biggs. Mid-way through and Biggs just fires a “who cares” SWEEPING RIGHT HOOK that crashes into NatBass temple, the veterans head snapping sideways and she does a 180 toward the ropes. Powerful shot from the youngster. NatBass glassy eyed. Stumbling around, as Biggs lines her up but misses another hook to the face. NatBass sorting out her defense but she’s on the back foot now as Biggs closes and starts trying to find openings in the veterans guard. She can only work some hard blows to her body as the bell ends the 8th.

Kylie: Scherri so resilient. Great signs for the youngster who looked scared after that earlier knockdown but has bravely fought through that and takes that round.

Kristy: Yeah she was getting pasted mid-ring but then this right hook out of nowhere and NatBass was put right back in her place.

Kylie: Two more rounds, great fight this one.

Round 9

Bell to bell by NatBass as the veteran just about puts it out beyond doubt. First minute is hard fought by both girls but NatBass is landing more jabs than Biggs struggles to land a signature blow. Mid-way through and NatBass grits her teeth and gets in low, pasting that rock hard six pack again but this time a RIPPING RIGHT HOOK sounds like it cracks a rib as BIGGS goes in the legs and stumbles to the neutral corner. NATBASS CHARGES in, banging shots at the face of Biggs, she tries to cover up but it’s shot after shot either at the mid-section or the head. BLISTERING LEFT JAB followed by a CRUNCHING RIGHT HOOK and Biggs looks to be out on her feet. “GET OFF THE ROPES” yells her corner. As NatBass bludgeons her with those pushing hooks to the head and keeps her where she wants her. The youngsters form is coming apart as NatBass swipes with another FLASHING RIGHT HOOK to the jaw and the bell saves the youngster who falls to the left and gets tangled in the ropes in the neutral corner.

Kylie: Wow, it’s taking a full nine rounds for Nat to really look like a champion veteran fighting an amateurish debutant but that was it right there. Scherri struggling to untangle herself from the ropes and she is banged up.

Kristy: Face a mess isn’t it Kylz. And she’s nursing that rib cage too. Still a credit to her that she has stayed in the fight until now. But to win she’s gotta knock Nat out now and I can’t see that happening.

Round 10

SCHERRI-LEE BIGGS charging over to NatBass, catches her unaware with a SOLID LEFT HOOK to the chin. NatBass covers up and backs away. She’s shut up shop. Biggs tracking her around the ring but NatBass is just shimmying away, guard high, swatting at Biggs punches. Continuous retreat from the veteran and youngster is getting frustrated, throwing everything at her for no return. She’s almost running at her and missing wildly, falling against the ropes. NatBass knows she has it and want offer anything until an exchange in the middle which is just two tired boxer throwing haymakers to little effect. And that’s the bell. Decisive UD10 Natalie Bassingthwaighte!

Kylie: The first win in a long time for Nat and she is an emotional wreck mid-ring. She embraces Scherri-Lee for a while and then goes to Baudo in the corner who also offers her a big hug.

Kristy: This does mean a lot to her and perhaps she can build on this now. This is a learning curve for Scherri-Lee. To go 10 rounds is a big effort and she had to do a lot of different things just to keep herself in it. So well done to her.

Sarah: Guys I have Scherri with me, well done young lady, that was an impressive debut.

Scherri: It was ok. I had to pull it together after she knocked me down. That really hurt and I had no idea how to deal with it. But my corner was very helpful and I came out of it ok. Well done to NatBass, she deserved the win.

Sarah: Thanks Scherri. And Natalie, well done, you overcame a few demons tonight.

Natalie: You have no idea. It looked like going down the same path early in the fight. Such a battle to get myself through that second round. So proud with myself that I have come through with the win but also that I was able to bring back some form.

Sarah: There you go ladies, a great win from NatBass.
