Sarah: We’ve arrived at our second title fight for the evening. I’ve got to admit that before tonight started, I didn’t see anyone challenging these two for the title, but Melissa George and Emily Scott look to be possibilities. The ballot for this fight couldn’t have been more perfect. The AWUBA Featherweight Champion, Zoe Ventoura, up against the AWUBA Undisputed Bantamweight Champion, Miranda Kerr. Zoe the least experience, an up and comer who had only won 8 AWUBA titles but most recently defended the title twice. Miranda, the top Superfly in the AWUBA who recently switched to Bantam and has been unmatched at that weight.

Miranda, firstly to you, your come back since giving birth to little Flynn has been amazing, firstly the AWUBA title, then the diamond bra at Victoria Secret, how will you cap it all off by winning the ACB Bantam title tonight?

Miranda: Getting past Zoe is probably going to be the single biggest feat of 2011. Flynn just seemed to pop out (laughs) and getting back in shape has been relatively easy. Zoe is 30, in her prime as a boxer and showing the best of the best how it’s done. Her only weakness is that she does struggle to go the distance in fights; I’m well prepared for 10 rounds this evening.

Sarah: Now to Zoe, is this the biggest fight of your life?

Miranda: It kind of is Sarah. I’ve dropped a bit of weight to slot in at Bantam after dominating the Feathers in the AWUBA. But that’s history now, this is a new challenge for me and what better way to get things started than to beat the greatest Bantam I have ever seen.

Sarah: There you have it girls, let’s get into it.

Round 1

Ventoura circling, touching Kerr up with feathery jabs that just bounce off her face. Kerr unperturbed, seamlessly walking through it. OH VENTOURA NAILS A RIGHT UPPERCUT out of the pocket and Kerr’s no longer walking, skipping backwards, moving her bottom jaw side to side, Ventoura pounces, Kerr guard around her ears, Zoe treating herself to Kerr’s washboard abs, swiping hooks at her ribcage but Kerr takes the shots and collects with a right cross to forehead. Ventoura ducking the follow up left and driving up into another SOLID RIGHT UPPERCUT bang on the chin again and Kerr is pedaling backwards and sliding along the ropes. HERE COMES ZOE VENTOURA! Tracking her, extended the right jab, just banging Miranda’s head back, Miranda trapped in the corner as Ventoura buries punches in her torso, Kerr stranded offering nothing, OH RIGHT UPPERCUT AGAIN Ventoura and Kerr looks like she might go down here, knees have gone to absolute jelly, Ventoura looking for the knockout blow, Kerr covered up in the corner as Ventoura blasts away at stomach, takes a little one two to the face from Kerr but just bashes her to the bell. Zoe Ventoura on fire.

Kristy: Huge round there from Zoe Ventoura. Man oh man, Miranda Kerr just got lit up by her shorter, slightly older opponent.

Kylie: Zoe's speed was electrifying from the opening seconds. We know she likes to end fights in the first, it has been her trademark in a short career. Miranda looks ok but checked three times on the same spot from the same punch, says to me she is just not seeing them well so far Hinzy.

Kylie: Oh yeah but Zoe just set her up perfectly every time, take nothing away from her.

Round 2

Kerr returning fire now, matches that electrifying pace with a display of her own, smacking the left and right cross at Ventoura’s cheeks, her power not there yet. Ventoura patient, waiting for opens, poking the jab at Kerr’s gloves, but she’s just taking it on her guard and keeping up the work rate. Mid-way through, it’s still Kerr advancing, Ventoura now giving ground, but the scoring punches are slowing. Kerr ducking the pokey jab and swiping at her tummy. It’s all Kerr for the remainder of the round but Ventoura gets out of it pretty well.

Kylie: A good round for Kerr to win there. She got it together well after the first round and although Ventoura got through it unscathed, it’s now even on the scorecard.

Kristy: You’ve gotta prevent Ventoura from ending fights early and she has done that, albeit taking a hiding in the first. She put that round together soon. I hope we get to see her power tonight.

Round 3

Workman like performance from Kerr. Her form is great, guard compact, no openings for Ventoura. Kerr making her fight it her terms. Using her reach, speedy jabs, keeping Ventoura at bay. Zoe frustrated, can’t get close enough to trouble Kerr. Now she is in full retreat, making Kerr chase her. Both fighters jabbing, ducking, leaning, swaying, skipping backwards through the middle. Kerr impatient, advances quickly and walks into a combination of those feathery jabs of Zoe’s, pop, pop, pop, her head on a bobble, takes two hard shots to the ribs and a HUGE RIGHT HOOK crashes into her temple, stopped in her tracks and stomping up and down on the spot, shaking that off glassy eyed as Ventoura crouches low for a body assault but Kerr bunny hops backwards to the ropes, left hand at her face, right hand at her crutch covering her right side. No openings for Zoe as Kerr bounces off the ropes and falls into a clinch, the ref breaking it up but there’s the bell.

Kristy: I really want to see some power shots from Miranda. This is her bread and butter and it is almost like she is afraid to knock Zoe out.

Kylie: Yep and Zoe on the other hand is determined to do just that. Powerful shots from the Feather champ. We here this term feathery jabs, that’s just describe the speed of which she throws them, they would be hurting Miranda.

Round 4

Kerr stepping in cautiously, over protective guard, watching Ventoura approach. Ventoura circling, poking the jab out there this time, different approach both girls, Kerr countering nicely, one of two punches landing. Mid-way through, something clicks and Kerr skips in unleashing at the body, Ventoura covering her ribs and popping a few shots at Kerr’s guard. She fires back a barrage at Zoe’s face and it’s ALL OUT PUNCHING in the middle of the ring. Kerr a thrashing right across Ventoura’s chin, her head banged sideways but sends a right hook crashing into Kerr’s nose. Ventoura working downs stairs but gets clipped by a nasty right uppercut, followed by a left hook, she skips backward but then launches in to straight jab to Kerr’s chin and another which catches her nose. Both girls fall together, banging each other’s kidneys but the ref forces them apart. Final minute see’s Ventoura in full retreat, Kerr tracking her, landing multiple jabs, good scoring late for Kerr and that’s the bell.

Kylie: There you go Hinzy. Some of Miranda’s power shining through there. Zoe a little shook up to but she went toe to toe with her and delivered some nice shots herself.

Kristy: heaps better from Miranda. She still looks better when she is using her reach though and getting the full power into her shots. That was just a small taste of what she is capable of.

Kylie: Great stuff so far, 2 rounds each I would say.

Round 5

Kerr finally takes control, using her jab to keep Ventoura at a distance, extended the one two jab nicely. Ventoura ducking, stepping to and release quick sharp crosses, but Kerr is able to slip the attack and plants a THUNDEROUS RIGHT UPPERCUT flush on Ventoura’s chin, OH SHE’S HURT! Zoe dizzy, shaking her head, backing toward the ropes as Kerr pounces, she’s late on the scene and Ventoura is wearing the helmet, taking leather on her forearms, Kerr resorting to the torso by Ventoura covers that nicely. Kerr struggling to find openings, Ventoura’s knees definitely gone, Kerr can’t land the knockout punch. Ventoura releasing her guard and faking a few punches to the Kerr tummy which result in her falling into a clinch. The ref pulls her off and gives her a quick warning and she slides away from the ropes. Kerr banging her head back twice more with the straight jab and there’s the bell. Big round for Kerr.

Kristy: If you are young aspiring female boxer, hell even if you’re a veteran like me, it’s worth paying for a ticket to come and see someone as petite as Miranda Kerr throw punches like that uppercut. That is just unprecedented power for someone of her stature.

Kylie: One punch Hinzy. Just one punch and Zoe’s whole world closed in on her. She held on bravely over the last two minutes of that round, but gee, it’s going to be interesting to see how she fights through this next round.

Part 2

Round 6

Another good round for Kerr, leading Ventoura around the ring, hassling her, banging her head back with a lot more speed and power than earlier in the fight. Kerr getting in for quick right hands to the body then exiting just as quick so as to not get caught in toe to toe stuff. Ventoura looking worse for wear, red faced, eye swelling, cringing and wincing with each blow. Kerr brawling her to the ropes, propping her up with forearms and driving hard shots into her ribcage. She banging left and rights into her stomach and chest and clipping the chin with the occasional uppercut. Ventoura staying on solid legs but really getting toweled and offering little in return, although the odd jab does touch Kerr’s face but doesn’t trouble her. The final minute sees a total rout by Kerr, no enormous power, just a cleverly constructed beat down of body blows and uppercuts to the face which see Ventoura sucking hard at the bell, nursing a face full of hurt.

Kristy: Fantastic round from Miranda. Zoe went missing but not through any fault of her own. That was just vintage Miranda Kerr. You are in there with Miranda worrying about so many things when she is on her game. Reach, speed, mental toughness, strength and then to cap that off, enormous power.

Kylie: I’ve witnessed it first-hand so I know exactly what you mean. When she takes control of a fight and she is winning the mind game, you are thinking so many things other than what you should be doing which is getting your shit right.

Kristy: She’s taken the last two rounds now. Zoe needs to claw her way back, and quickly.

Round 7

MIRANDA CHARGES IN! Lighting Ventoura up with a flurry of head punches, the majority getting through, bundling her straight back to the corner she came from. Ventoura bunny hops backwards and her back thwacks against her corner. Kerr banging hard shots into her six pack and OH THE RIGHT UPPERCUT again takes her chin, thrashing her head back, followed by a CLUBBING RIGHT HOOK to the temple and Ventoura is laying on the top rope, Kerr stepping in, banging shots at her left side but the ref steps in and allows Ventoura off the ropes sending Miranda to her corner, oh nasty cut above the left eye. Ref has a good look at her, she’s barely there, THE FIGHT GOES ON! Ventoura moving forward, feet slapping on the canvas, she’s buckled over, guard high. Kerr just clubbing at her ribs, behind the elbows, banging away at her guarded head. Ventoura unable to retaliate. Final minute, Kerr just continue to maul Ventoura around the ring, lands a telling LEFT UPPERCUT right on the nose and Zoe is backpedaling out of there again at the bell.

Kylie: That’s 4 rounds in a row from Miranda we saw all of the power that round. Zoe just belted out of this fight.

Kristy: I can’t see her coming back from here Kylz. I’ve got it 66-60 and unless Zoe's this next round she is a goner. I think we have our champion!

Round 8

Miranda pouring on the punches mid-ring. Ventoura battling hard but Kerr’s power is too much for her, she’s just banging that jab straight through the guard and the AWUBA Feather Champs head is being knocked this way and that. Mid-way through, Ventoura lands two quick jabs that smack into Kerr’s chin and stop the onslaught. Kerr resets, shimmying left and right, Ventoura advances, getting another jab on Kerr’s face, Kerr untidy, a bit stunned. Ventoura lands another straight jab on her mouth, Kerr slipping, stumbling back, Ventoura banging two solid jabs on her 6 pack, KERR HURT! Ventoura rips a CRUNCHING LEFT HOOK to the ribcage, left jab takes her chin, Kerr swaying, OH THE RIGHT HOOK just crashes into her jaw and DOWN GOES MIRANDA KERR! Head snap sideways, knees bending in and she topples forward. Straight to her knees as Ventoura fists pumps low by her side to the direction of her corner, but she’s still sucking them in a looks a mess. Kerr on her feet at 7, bloody mouth and nose. HERE COMES ZOE VENTOURA, charging in but Kerr meets her for a final minute slugfest, lots of punches missing the mark until Ventoura pops Kerr’s head up with to swift little right uppercuts, Kerr backed into the corner then a third FLASHY LEFT UPPERCUT puts her head over the top rope right on the bell and she catches herself with her right arm on the top rope. OH BELLY SHOT AFTER THE BELL FROM VENTOURA!

Kristy: Far out Kylz, what just happened. Miranda, has dominated the last 4 rounds and her form just came apart there.

Kylie: She got punched Hinzy. Plain and simple. Miranda has managed to stay out of the way of that sort of stuff for the last 4 and she just lost concentration for a second and let Zoe back in the fight.

Kristy: And that knockdown. Wow. We’ve talked about Miranda’s power but Zoe just smashed her. This makes things very interesting. Kerr looking like a beaten woman on her stool. Shaking her head, teary eyed. She doesn’t look like she wants to go on. Zoe on the other hand, although battered, is standing in her corner and ready to go.

Kylie: Two more rounds! Come on girls!

Round 9

Kerr has backed right off, wants none of this, Ventoura in their swinging, desperately trying to end the fight. Kerr in retreat, Ventoura tracking her, extending the jab back keeps missing the mark. She needs to land punches, can’t get Kerr on the ropes or a corner, she’s too evasive. Mid-way through, Kerr well rested, steps to now and starts firing in the left and right cross, stepping away to slip Ventoura’s jab and coming back in for the left right again. Ventoura catches her on the chin with a jab, Kerr unsteady, Ventoura jab jab jabbing, has Kerr backing off again, scoring well. OH Kerr nails her with a right cross clean on the mouth, Ventoura backing away now. Last minute, neither girl has much left in the tank. Circling, swaying, leaning away from the other’s punch, poking jabs, two fighters at the bell.

Kylie: Well it didn’t come for Zoe, perhaps Miranda a little more resilient than she expected. Both girls slump in their respective corners.

Kristy: This is going to come down to the wire Kylz. I’ve got it 1 point to Miranda, 81-80. All Zoe needs to do is take this round and she wins the fight. Likewise, Miranda just needs to hang on.

Kylie: We couldn’t have asked for a better finish to the title fight. Here we go!

Round 10

BOTH GIRLS CHARGING IN! IT’S AN ALL OUT SLUGFEST RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE! Kerr bending the knees, firing left and right hooks into Ventoura’s stomach. Ventoura treating herself to the unguarded face but she as taking harder shots downstairs. Bends the knees now and forces Kerr to look for other openings. Ventoura now banging shots into Kerr’s mid-section, OH BUT TAKES A HARD RIGHT HOOK to the ear, bunny hops sideways but COMES BACK FOR MORE, letting fly with a swiping left hook the catches Kerr’s nose, but Kerr plants her right foot and SLINGS THE RIGHT HOOK flush on Ventoura’s cheek and that one has her backpedalling to the ropes. She bounces off and falls into the clinch, but Kerr wrestles out of it, popping body shots off, Ventoura buckled over, trying to grab onto her. Kerr controlling her on the ropes for a good 30 sec, popping her head back with pretty little uppercuts and good right cross to the forehead. Ventoura falls against her again, clinching. The ref forces them apart. Final minute and ITS ON AGAIN! No method to the madness, just two girls trying to knock each other out. Scoring punches a plenty, both girls heads going this way and that, neither girl can put the other one on the mat and there is the bell!

Kristy: What a final round! This is one of the closest fights I have seen for a long time. Even early, one fight dominating the middle rounds, the other coming back late in the fight with a beautiful knock down.

Kylie: It could go either way this one Hinzy.

Kristy: Comes back 91-88 and the inaugural ACB Bantam weight Champion, MIRANDA KERR!

Sarah: What a privilege to be ringside for such a huge fight. Both girls embracing after the announcement. Zoe clearly disappointed with the result. I’ll just get in there and have a word with Zoe first. Zoe, such a shame, great effort tonight.

Zoe: I’m gutted. To come so close like that. Not disappointed in the scoring at all. I think they got it spot on. The 2nd and the 6th are rounds that I will look back on as ones that I could have taken but Miranda just structured the fight so well. I thought when I knocked her down midway through the 8th that I had her. Even that left uppercut at the end of the 8th wouldn’t finish her. Argh man, so disappointed. But well done to Miranda of course. She was very good.

Sarah: Well said there Zoe. And Miranda, Miranda Kerr, what a story this is?

Miranda: (choking back the tears) I’ve worked so hard to get here and to be the very first ACB Bantam Champ is such an honour and caps off a huge year. Zoe (calls for Zoe who comes over and she throws an arm around her), you couldn’t have asked for a better match up tonight. We are the best Bantam’s in Australia and the way she fought tonight, she deserved this just as much as me.

Sarah: Might we see a rematch?

Miranda: I think definitely. There isn’t another Bantam that could get close to me so Zoe would have to be in line for another shot at the title.

Sarah: So Kylz, Hinzy, first Penny Higgs, now Miranda Kerr. What more can the night produce.
