Sarah: This is another of those fights that couldn’t have been drawn better. Two great Australian singer/songwriters. One in Delta Goodrem, arguably the Queen of Australian music. The other is Vanessa Amorosi, possibly the bridesmaid of the female music ranks. Delta has had a well publicised battle with cancer in the past but fought bravely through that and has all the while managed to stay at the top of the AWUBA lightweight rankings, finishing up at 5 behind those big names; Elle; Jen Hawkins; Abbie and Penny. Vanessa is on debut here tonight but has a reputation for being a real hard body and a brawler.

Unmistakable with those fiery orange locks, Vanessa, this will be a real challenge for you this evening.

Vanessa: It will be Sarah. I get to fight one of Australia’s greatest in my debut fight. I’ve got some of Australia’s best in my corner though, and some great fighters around me at Wildetime who have been helpful and supportive, so I am ready for anything Delta can throw at me.

Sarah: Ok and Delta, you recently celebrated your 27th birthday. Some might be surprised that Vanessa is 4 years older than you considering how long you have been around this industry. How much does that experience mean coming into this fight?

Delta: In ring experience certainly helps, but going into a fight against someone you have never fought before is always a challenge. Both of us have only got tapes to go off and in Vanessa case, I have not seen much of her at all. I’ll just do the things and see how it plays out in the early rounds.

Round 1

Goodrem wary, keeping distance between her and a jumpy Amorosi, fiery orange ponytail flashing around behind her. She’s flashing the jab out at Goodrem whose patient, stepping away then coming back in and searching for openings. Two good shots from Amorosi, Goodrem getting to close backing away as Ness closes in and works the body. Goodrem a little tardy, getting caught. Midway through, first punch from Goodrem smacks into Amorosi’s mouth and she retreats, big girl on the move, Goodrem sensing panic, tracks her down leads with the jab catching skull. Amorosi finds herself on the ropes, taking leather to the torso, a couple of clipping uppercuts to the chin, corner yelling for her to get off the ropes. She fires a hard jab at Goodrem's chin, great punch, stops Delta in her track and allows Ness to get off the ropes. Both girls holding ground side on to the ropes, swaying left and right, ducking the advances, jabbing off the shoulder, a good exchange to the bell.

Kylie: That was a very even round Hinzy. Vanessa bravely getting on the attack early but didn’t like getting hit.

Kristy: Well sort of. Delta’s kept her on the ropes nicely and perhaps she wasn’t sure how to get off there. But once the corner intervened and she landed that shot, that swung it back. A great display of boxing by both girls to end the round.

Kylie: I think Delta just takes it. There were a lot of scoring punches in that middle minute.

Round 2

Both girls meet mid ring. Goodrem the aggressor this time, ducking the jab and blasting hard shots into the torso of the red head. Amorosi sucking hard, Goodrem relentless, attacking that torso. Amorosi a little untidy, guard protecting her middle but wide open upstairs for the BLISTERING RIGHT UPPERCUT! Oh Amorosi’s head snaps backwards, she stumbles back, shaking her head and HERE COMES GOODREM! HARD STRAIGHT JAB to the nose as Amorosi is late to bring the guard up, left and right clubbing hooks into the ribcage by Delta as Amorosi is bludgeoned to the corner on sturdy legs. More attack to the body as Goodrem just rips blows into her midsection, Ness is soaking it up, OH THE RIGHT UPPERCUT again right in the chin, Amorosi falls back against the corner! Two jabs to the face by Goodrem, left hook, SWIPING RIGHT HOOK across the cheek and Amorosi falls against the ropes! Goodrem pulling her off with her left glove, driving uppercuts under her left arm into the exposed ribs, OH STRAIGHT RIGHT JAB to the jaw and the ref steps in! It’s over! TKO2 Delta Goodrem.

Kylie: Wow, what a round by the Queen of Australian music! That is one way beat a debutant. She just tore Vanessa a new one!

Kristy: Not a word was spoken about this being a mismatch beforehand but I think Vanessa was in for some punishment and that just shows how one sided that fight was. I’m kind of glad it ended like it did.

Kylie: Yeah well she showed she won’t be knocked down and Delta is a powerful woman. We have seen a little of early KO’s tonight but she is up on her feet and ok. Over to you Sarah.

Sarah: Just a quick word with Vanessa first. Ness not the result you would have been looking for but a good effort none the less.

Vanessa: I thought my first round was good, but I just couldn’t go with her there in the second. I’ve got some work to do. I’m glad I didn’t go down though. It is going to take a lot for anyone to knock me down.

Sarah: That’s for sure. Delta, how do you feel?

Delta: Can I just say, the welterweight division of the ACB is in great shape. When you have Michelle Bridges in the form she is in, Ricki-Lee back to her best, Elle and Erika who we will get to see soon, and now a debutant like that who just took my hardest punches and stayed upright…..I’m proud to be in this sort of company.

Sarah: That was my next question, you just couldn’t knock her down could you?

Delta: Vanessa Amorosi has some of the strongest legs and maybe the hardest chin of anyone in the ACB. The only other girl I have struggled to knock down is Kimberly Davies, so that is pretty good company to keep.

Sarah: So we are getting closer to the main event. Just the Murdoch Davies card to go and then it’s the big one.
