Lisa and Laura have swapped a few insults before this fight, and will be happy to settle their differences. Lisa’s coming off the back of three straight knockout defeats, whereas the Italian has just won her national lightweight title.

Into the ring comes Lisa, in her one of her favourite black outfits again tonight, and she’s soon joined by Laura in a dark green one-piece. Lisa looks hotter, that’s for sure.

Round 1

The fight starts very quietly, with the girls just ambling around the ring, really, each one looking for a gap in their opponents defences, then Laura raps a couple of punches into Lisa’s body, going for a softening up process, maybe, while the Brit stays on the defensive, maybe letting the Italian show her tactics early, but all in all that was a disappointing start to the fight.

Round 2

Laura comes out cautiously again, with Lisa almost seeming to call her in to trade, keeping her gloves low, whipping a few loopy shots up and at the Italian’s face, but nothing with real venom, and this brings Laura inside, and the girls trade , each one going for body at this stage, but Lisa’s getting on top, and it’s Laura beginning to wilt, the Brit landing the harder punches, and her right hooks to Laura’s body have the older girl groaning a little – Pausini’s in trouble right now, and she’s not hiding it, as Maffia bombs her flanks.

Round 3

The time is tough for Laura now, as Lisa clearly presses home what she feels t be an advantage, cuff, cuff, cuffing the Italian girl around the face with left hand punches, making her stumble around the ring, and she gets her resting up on the ropes, gets her nice and steady, then wipes a left hook across her lips, gives her a quick right to the guts, and another, then sweeps a left across her face, making her tremble, then she rips her with a right hand, before clapping another left to her ear, putting the girl down, grovelling to rise at 8, the Lisa gives Laura two left hooks to the body, visibly weakening the older girl.

Round 4

Laura comes out slowly, but still determined, and she needs to be, as Lisa whips a hard right hook up and into her mouth, sending her spinning backwards, then follows up afterwards, banging hooks into the Italian’s body and face at will, putting her on her back with a left to her mouth. Laura shakes her head, and gets back up at 7, but her lips are very swollen and look sore, and maybe Lisa will knock her out soon – that’s clearly her intention, as she lands another good left hook, but Laura is somehow spurred on, and fights back, landing her own punches to Lisa’s head, making her cover up.

Round 5

If Lisa thought she had this fight won, she’d better think again, because Laura is hitting her fairly regularly now, hard, straight punches landing around the Brit’s cheeks as the older girl shows what a good technician she is, Lisa’s head bobbing around as she takes punishment from the Italian for the first time, the Brit feverishly trying to clinch, but being knocked back and shocked by her resilient opponent, and the round draws to a close with Lisa soaking up plenty of punishment to the face.

Round 6

Nursing a few bruises of her own now, Lisa starts the round well, hooking Laura to the face a couple of times, then closing her to the ropes, regaining control. Lisa’s trying to prise Laura’s defence apart, but the Italian’s having none of it, and she fights back – hard, cracking Lisa’s head back again with a straight left, then working her to the body she hurts the younger girl, catches her with a big right hand punch, and Lisa’s ass hits the floor, the Brit rolling to her side, before beating the count at 8. Laura hits Lisa again to the ribs before the end of the round, but the Brit has recovered from the knockdown and gets through the Italian’s guard with neat right hooks at the bell.

Round 7

With both girls hurt and tiring, it’s no surprise that the pace is slowing, and this is playing into Lisa’s hands a little, as she appears to have the harder punch, which is bringing the older girl’s revival to an end, a solid right hander sending her backwards to the ropes, and this time Laura just grabs onto Lisa when she comes in close enough, no longer having the strength left to return fire. The final minute of the round sees Laura on the wrong end of a battering, with Lisa’s punches distressing her still further, and her nose is beginning to dribble blood as she takes a big left hand to the centre of her face, leaving her in trouble as the round ends.

Round 8

Lisa’s looking ultra-confident as the girls resume, and she bangs her gloves together the way she used to when she was BBU lightweight champion, and just advances towards Laura, picks her off quickly wit two straight lefts to the mouth, stuns her with a right cross, then floors her with a well aimed left hook to the jaw, leaving the Italian champion flat on her back and out for the count.

Lisa Maffia knocked Laura Pausini out in round 8

Lisa seemed more composed tonight, and maybe she can challenge again for the title which she once considered her personal property.
