Before: Hu jilted again, this time by Liu who shamelessly goes back to 110 for a Milano date rather than face the conqueror of Kiana Tom--or at least that’s what Hu’s tireless spymasters would have us believe. Rather than risk growing stale waiting for a big time challenge--Kelly gets an attractive bid from MTV, fighting Brown on prime time in a non-tile contest: high reward, no risk. Julie a solid veteran credited with sharpening the skills of Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra during their stints at the station--probably doesn’t have the speed to deal with Hu over 10, but good pop and a mean body attack will pose a constant threat. Kelly in royal blue bandeau top, grey stretch shorts to midthigh, slick ponytail--Julie in white sports bra with red side panels, black mid thigh stretch shorts.

During R1: Hu in that familiar Pretty Boy Floyd stance, left hand at her side, chin tucked behind that shoulder, right hand coiled and ready as she leans away from encroaching Brown. Julie a straight up slugger, dukes up, walks Hu down and eats nuisance jabs from Kelly’s hip as Hu fades back, picks Julie up at will. Midway through Brown gets Hu ropeside with some lethal straight right hands to the side--Kelly squaring up hurt to counter punch and she is NAILED a crisp left hook on the jaw that has the Asian hanging on, All Downtown Julie Brown to the bell as she works Kelly over at the ropes, harming the champ to the midsection with crunching body shots from both hands--fighting through Kelly’s desperate clinching. Brown showing no respect, roughly shoving Hu’s hips back and sinking in a savage hook up into the sternum. Chopping at the ribcage with follow up rights.

R2: Hu’s legs aren’t back--and she needs them against this opponent. Brown able to get her head on Hu and resulting trench warfare definitely to Julie’s liking. Hu bunching upo, twisting away as Brown tans her waistline with thudding brutality--Julie bodying Kelly back, shoving and mugging at will--Hu breaking down badly as she is forced to fight Julie’s fight. Midway through, Julie working Kelly’s sides, pound punches in around the Asian’s elbows, nearly flooring Hu at one point as Kelly’s back leg gives way to spill her awkwardly against the ropes. Brown swarming to finish in the final minute, misjudges the champ: Hu with her left shoulder pointed at Julie, dips and leans away into the ropes, slipping punches and twisting into jolting right hand counters on the face that have Brown swooning at the bell. Both girls wobbled in a vicious punching second--but Hu still can’t recover from the body work during the break.

R3: Julie Brown traps Kelly Hu in in her corner and proceeds to launch an all-or-nothing assault against the champ’s tight midriff. Hu hurting, elbows in, covers up to protect, but  Julie hammers to body, sharpening with rights coming off lefts that are bouncing off the body then doubling up into the temples or face as Hu bends forward--Kelly swaying out over her feet in desperate trouble. Brown shoves Hu back against the ropes and starts pouring it on--lefts and rights crashing in on unprotected jaw as Kelly dimly leans back, out of room and taking punches flush AND THE ~REF STOPS THE FIGHT! Hu in a slack-jawed daze, slumps on the ropes as Julie Brown goes ballistic in the ring--leaping into her trainer’s arms a huge upset winner by TKO3.

After: Total disaster for Hu, who’s career has to be the wildest rollercoaster ride going. Rocketing to the top of her weight class with a meteoric string of victories, then devastated by Liu, getting it all back and then some again Tom, and now disgraced in 3 short rounds by a durable, but raw Julie Brown--Kelly is quickly whisked away from the ring rather than facing the inevitable, embarrassing questions. Brown quick to capitalize on the high profile upset, calling for an immediate title bout--no word from Hu who certainly isn’t obliged to grant such a request. Brown with a damaged body attack had Kelly hurt from the second minute on and successfully rolled up on the champ with crude, yet effectively bludgeoning--Hu drastically underestimating the kind of pressure Julie could bring to bear, didn’t seem ready to fight hard tonight.
