Will this be a belated ‘Happy Birthday’ for Shakira’s 35th? Possibly not, as Hannah won their previous bout, almost exactly a year ago – many anniversaries, but what will happen?

First in the ring is Hannah, and she’s wearing a shiny silver bikini for the occasion, looking almost robotic as she dances on the spot, to be joined by Shakira, who’s wearing a kind of leopard-skin effect loincloth – she looks like ‘Jungle Girl’ from the 1980s GLOW series!

Round 1

Both girls start strongly, and are swapping shots straight away in the centre of the ring, and we see a contrast in styles, with the classical boxing of Hannah against the aggressive punching power of Shakira, with the boxer looking more commanding at this early stage, Hannah keeping the centre of the ring as her own, making Shakira do the leg work, hitting her quite comfortably to keep her at arm’s length Spearritt knows the Colombian can punch hard, and is not looking to mix things up at this stage, just batting the shorter girl off, on her toes, using her reach, and looking good.

Round 2

The round starts poorly for Shakira, with Hannah pinging her face with that effective left jab, and Shakira is living off scraps here, getting some punches home, but never landing any combinations. The girl’s aggressive enough, but a little slower than the Brit so that as Shakira moves in to throw a couple of bombs, she’s picked off by a flurry of more accurate punches, and that will take its toll in the later rounds, if we get there. Shakira’s looking more and more frustrated as she just can’t get inside Spearritt’s lead, and the Brit is picking her off still, making her look bad, almost like a professional giving a lesson to an amateur.

Round 3

Shakira gets off her stool bristling aggression – she did not enjoy the inter-round lecture from her corner, and she’s ignoring Hannah’s sharp jabs now, prepared to take shots to land shots, and she’s forcing the Brit to trade now, the girls smacking each other to the face with leather, Hannah’s jabs metronomically spotting Shakira’s head back, but Shakira’s hard if primitive punches are smacking the blonde girl around a little now, and Hannah’s having to keep mobile as the round draws on, Shakira able to get the upper hand in this round, outworking Hannah and giving her three good right hooks just before the bell, the Brit glad to hear it as she sprawls against the ropes.

Round 4

Hannah’s sharper again now, back to her bobbing and weaving style, and dictating the fight pattern again – Shakira just can’t find that rhythm this round, and she’s getting tagged quite mercilessly as Spearrit takes charge of proceedings, giving the older girl’s face a bit of a leathering and working her around the ring from corner to corner, Shakira’s punches not landing, and, with Hannah controlling the tempo, dictating to and dominating Shakira, not wanting to let the wildcat impose her brawling style on the fight, and these tactics are working just fine.

Round 5

Hannah is again sharp out of her corner, and she rocks Shakira early on with a left right combination, and that makes the older girl stumble, then, with her girl off balance, Hannah catches her again, right hook to the jaw, another to the cheek, a left to the body, and she’s hurt the Colombian with that flurry, making her stand off. Now Hannah goes after the older girl, and she’s making life tough for Shakira, pushing and poking her into the ropes, and working her, working her. Shakira is getting beaten up her now, her face showing signs of grazing around the cheeks as Hannah beats on her face, then switches to her body in the closing stages, with Shakira surviving a beatdown.

Round 6

Expecting to continue her dominance, Hannah is eager to make contact with Shakira again from the bell, but this time the shorter girl is ready for her, and the girls are exchanging big shots in the centre of the ring, which may not be good for Hannah if Shakira has retained her strength – and the Columbian lifts Hannah’s head up with two shortarm uppercuts, then wipes a lovely left hook across her mouth, staggering and hurting the blonde, and now she starts to give Spearritt some stick, her punches thudding into the Brit’s face, really bruising up her left cheek, and she might get to finish this. The round is drawing to a close, and a resilient Hannah is regaining the initiative and spanking some long leading jabs into her face – Shakira must be devastated, as that onslaught of hers has had little effect on the Brit’s will to fight, and the Colombian looks sick as she trudges back to her corner.

Round 7

Shakira attacks Hannah really quickly, but she looks a little untidy, and she’s still missing with many of her punches – a lot of effort for little reward, whereas Hannah’s back to her economic style, scoring with every shot, and she’s landing some good ones, too. Hannah rips a couple of shots into Shakira’s ribs, then knocks her down with a left hook to the jaw. Shakira bounces back up at 5, but Hannah starts to really club the older girl to the body, just cleaning her up as the fight continues, getting a little one-sided as Shakira tires, and Hannah closes in to put her away, maybe? But she gets caught as Shakira slugs for her life off ropes, and as the end of the round beckons, Shakira’s all over Hannah, desperate for an answer-knockdown. The Colombian doesn't get it, but the big rally converts Hannah's 10-8 triumphant round into regular 10-9.

Round 8

That late rally from Shakira has taken the speed out of Hannah’s legs, and she’s no longer dancing and bobbing on her toes, but being forced to trade. The girls are standing toe to toe now and blasting each other, and they’re both looking pretty bruised and lumped upnow, but Hannah’s beginning to land more shots that Shakira, and the older girl’s hurt all of a sudden, it was a big left hook to the jaw that’s sent her wobbly again, and she’s stumbling backwards against the ropes, with Spearritt firing shots into her belly and ribs as she goes, helping her on her way – here comes that left hook again, and down goes Shakira! Good night, birthday girl – all over!

Hannah Spearritt knocked out Shakira in round 8.

That’s a neat performance by Hannah against a powerful opponent – she outboxed her as expected, but also showed she can trade if she has to, and this is her best performance for a while. As for Shakira – tough night, and she’s been busted up, too – not a celebration of her 35th after all.
