Kat Dennings seems a good deal bigger than January Jones, although both girls are in the FCBA bantamweight division, and the older girl will need to use her height advantage if she is to emerge triumphant from this matchup – if she gets involved in a brawl, she’ll take another beating, but maybe Kat’s boxing skills are in need of improvement? One thing’s for sure – both girls need a win.

Into the ring they come, with Kat in a black one-piece outfit and January in a silver bikini, edged in black silk, and Kat certainly does seem much the bigger girl.

Round 1

There’s an amazing start here, as a shockingly aggressive Jones throws herself at Dennings early, lighting her up, straight away, all hustle, bustle and sending speedy little uppercuts into the younger girls chin. Jones can't seriously hurt Dennings, but she's backing her up, and bloodying her nose, too, and Dennings is looking totally disorganized, her face crimson with the speedy blonde dishing out a battering, and Kat’s in an overwhelming lather, helpless to answer this spirited stuff from January.

Round 2

Dennings comes out stronger and more active in the second, not landing many punches at the outset as the blonde grips onto her, desperate to avoid the brunette’s big hooks, but she’s getting pushed around by the big girl, getting messed up when she’s laid against the ropes. Kat isn’t landing any real telling blows, but she’s scoring points, even though the blonde is taking many of them on defensive arms and gloves, annoying her young opponent and frustrating her efforts to land decent punches.

Round 3

Jones now doing as she was expected, jabbing well, staying mobile, and dancing around the more ponderous Dennings, the pretty blonde circling and getting off pitty-pat combos, keeping Kat on the back foot, having to swat at the buzzing older girl, who doesn’t stay still long enough for her to hit. Kat’s unhurt by January’s assaults, but all she’s doing is turning in midring, almost getting dizzy, with the blonde just smacking shots into her face from whatever angle, and the big girl landing virtually nothing in response.

Round 4

Jones just continues boxing in circles, just stepping around after landing neat, crisp little blows to Kat’s waiting face, the big girl now getting more and more irritated. Kat counters by blocking and advancing - she's not getting hit very hard, and she’s landing some hefty shots of her own as the round closes, maybe beginning to hurt Jones to the body with a few of those, but it's Jones who has the points in the bag again, just on sheer volume.

Round 5

The energetic Jones comes out dancing and skipping again in the fifth, stepping around, turning Kat, making her look slow, like a tired sunbather swatting at a fly, as she just outpaces the younger girl, all the time that jab popping in Kat’s face – those punches may not hurt as such, but Denning’s face looks pretty bruised now, and the round is one of domination for the pretty blonde, left jabs, right crosses, the occasional uppercut just drinking up more points for her, and Kat looks pretty aggrieved at the bell that she can’t trade punches with the slighter girl.

Round 6

The round starts with Kat moving into Jones hard, but January strikes back with that burst of unexpected venom again - surprising Kat with violence and lathering her to ropes. By the midpoint, the smaller girl is beating on a covered up big-girl, and it's just Jones whirling as Dennings stands, sways and soaks up the punishment, still lunging like a fairground bruiser at the vastly more competent boxer Jones, and Kat’s nursing a fairly lumped up face as the round draws to a close, smeared with her own blood, and looking drained.

Round 7

Kat has to slow the pace of this fight or lose it right here, and she starts with her bullying tactics again, pushing January around and moving her savagely into the ropes, and at last she starts to land some shots, beating the blonde’s midriff with heavy, sweeping left and right hand punches, just trapping January on the ropes, working her along them into the corner, the older girl still protecting her face though. Kat’s winning the round, but she needs something more dramatic here, as her punches lack real leverage, and the girl simply isn’t busy enough, not working desperately enough when she's on top – January was nearly ready to fall by the end of the round, but Kat didn’t land right.

Round 8

Now Jones is running as well as skipping and dancing, trying to keep Dennings at bay, but she’s lost some legspeed now, and with Kat the aggressor she begins to get tagged a little more often, then, as the younger girl tires, it’s January again spitting those jabs at Kat’s reddened face, and doing enough effective boxing to keep the younger girl at bay again, never allowing the brunette to get at her like she did in the previous round, and she wins this one, again due to sheer volume of work put in.

Round 9

Kat Dennings has given a very poor performance so far, and it doesn’t get any better in the ninth, as she looks completely listless after a swift bombardment from January in the opening seconds, and she had to take a few sharp uppercuts at the end of the attack which sees her laying on the ropes and blocking, not really fight back, and as the round progresses, it becomes a one way route from January’s gloves to Kat’s beleaguered face – the brunette offers nothing as she takes a pure bell to bell pummeling from the little blonde.

Round 10

Another burst of violence from January right off the bell sweeps Kat to ropes – she hasn’t got the power to put Dennings away, but she’s certainly given her a licking in that ring tonight as she carries on one final effort, slamming punches into the bigger girls face and body. If the fighters were of a size, Dennings would almost certainly have been stopped by now, but as it is, Kat can absorb this, and she has to, as Jones fires into her, teeth bared, nostrils flaring, and the fight ends as it began, with the pretty blonde just whupping punches into the big brunette, just outboxing her – outclassing her.

At the bell, January Jones has beaten Kat Dennings by a huge margin on all 3 scorecards, and has her first win in FCBA.

That amazing first minute for Jones set the tone for this fight - not by hurting Kat physically, but definitely by putting Dennings on her heels psychologically...Jones' boxing with these little fits of savagery kept the bigger girl from executing her plan, although she didn’t seem to have one anyway.
