RESULTS: SIMGUY/STORY: ARCHER

MANDY MOORE VS RIHANNA

Before: Mandy Moore feeling the pressure of being 0-5 in her recent FCBA career. (“Not to mention the 3 she lost in the BBU,” Rihanna taunts in preflight. Moore flushes red at this, but trainer Virginia Madsen and Foxfire exec Beth Harnois hold their welter back).
“I know I can get back on track,” Mandy declares from the dais, “especially against a one-note fighter--and singer--like Rihanna.” (Now Rihanna has to be held back by her entourage). “Still,” Mandy continues with a grim smile, “I don’t expect it to be TOO easy to beat her.” Rihanna still scowling: “No it won’t be easy beating me--and I don’t think Mandy has what it takes. She’s blown her FCBA`career just like she has her music career.” Mandy leaps from her seat at this last remark and manages to grapple with Rihanna, before the two are pulled apart, expensive hair styling and blouses now much the worse for wear.

Ill-will seems to continue into Fight Night. Mandy appears in dark purple bikini with gold MM embroidered on the right hip, black gloves and shoes. Rihanna in light blue bikini with white gloves and shoes. Pair glare at each other during ring instructions and make only a token effort to touch gloves.

During R1: Bell rings and both fighters move quickly to try to take control. Mandy effective in this use of her jab to score on Rihanna’s attempts to get in close and land leather. Two dance around each other, Rihanna keeps looking for openings and finally starts landing some hard punches to torso in close. Mandy resorts to clinching and keeps up this punch ‘n clutch to maintain control the remainder of the round. Just as round is ending, stubborn Rihanna wades through jab to land a good one on Mandy’s mouth giving the Foxfire fighter something to think about during break.

R2; Rihanna eager to snatch control of the fight. At the bell, she rushes off her stool and tries to blitz her way pass Mandy’s guard with a wide, swinging lefts and rights that would be damaging if they landed. However Mandy shows her sophistication by coolly backfighting up and fighting with the jab as Rihanna continues to charge in. Then Mandy counters with a shot deep into Rihanna’s belly to bend her forward and follows up with two quick uppercuts to the chin. RIHANNA’S ON HER BUTT! Rihanna looks stunned, but gamely makes it back to her feet. Observers note how Mandy able to use Rihanna’s own momentum to add power to her counters. Neat finesse knockdown. Rihanna looks hurt and now forced to the defensive as Mandy is now the one to come forward with aggression. Mandy forcing that belly and chin. Rihanna obliged to cover up as she is driven to the ropes for a long pounding to the bell.

R3: Mandy thinking she’s got Rihanna hurting and maybe ready to go. Nope. Rihanna shows she’s recovered well and as Mandy comes in close, she is greeted by a flurry of Rihanna jabs to the face. Then it’s Mandy’s belly (along with her flanks) that come under attack as Rihanna tries to force her back to the ropes. Mandy forced to clinch repeatedly but Rihanna is fired up and keeps trying. Rounds ends with Mandy Moore looking stiff and achy. Satisfied smile on Rihanna’s face.

R4: Rihanna back out with aggression and still trying to get Mandy up against those ropes. Mandy taking a lot of leather in the first two minutes, but she continues to fight well backing up and evades having her back against the strands. Late the round, Mandy suddenly shifts gears with a neat feint to the right that draws Rihanna attention and leaves her open for a crashing left hook to the jaw! RIHANNA GOES WOBBLY BUTT! Mandy follows up with a fierce punishing attack to the head and body. Rihanna obliged to cover up to the bell as Mandy steals a Rihanna round with sneaky, well-timed power.

R5: Action resumes very quickly as the girls go to midring and start swinging. Mandy looking to get Rihanna down again with head-hunting attack, but Rihanna keeps her head moving to duck the incoming. Then Rihanna CRACKS a bludgeoning right off Moore’s jaw and the Foxfire girl CRASHES TO HER SIDE! Crowd roars as Rihanna lifts her arms in triumph, but Mandy somehow gets to her feet to beat the count. Rihanna resumes the bludgeoning attack and Mandy can do little more than try to cover up and try to tie up. Big round for Rihanna as a badly banged up Mandy Moore goes to back to her corner at the bell, her legs clearly trembling.

R6: Mandy Moore comes back out and shows her boxing skills as she regains control of the fight by landing good counters as Rihanna comes forward and using a solid guard to present Rihanna with few opportunities to land effectively. Rihanna again shows her stubborn side by continuing to attack. Mandy takes some good hits to the body and head, but she is able to neutralize them with clinching. Observers note that both girls able to come back from each other’s power.

R7: Classic Mandy Moore round. She using her ring generalship skills to continually frustrate Rihanna and slowly impose her will. Rihanna wants to get in close in work, but time after time she is thwarted by Mandy Moore clinches. Mandy’s countering effectively with her jab especially to Rihanna’s head as she keeps coming forward. Rihanna looking groggy after the bell ends the round.

R8: Rihanna comes out slugging once again and this time Mandy matches her! Crowd roaring with excitement as the two singers exchange powerful shots to head and body. Mandy looking very happy as Rihanna is forced back at once point, but Rihanna then able to time a incoming wide Moore right so that she ducks under it and smacks Mandy under the chin with a neat rising right. Mandy’s head snaps back and she stumbles backwards LANDS ON HER BUTT! Mandy finds herself looking up at a grinning Rihanna, stunned at this unexpected reversal of fortune. However the Foxfire beauty makes back to her feet to the count and covers up to prevent Rihanna from following up on the knockdown.

R9: Mandy Moore still looking shaken by the knockdown and Rihanna is not about to let up on her. Rihanna moves in with heavy punching to maintain the pressure. Mandy has to expend a lot of energy trying to cope with this and she absorbs a lot of punishment to the ribs and head. Rihanna can’t get Moore down, but she inflicts plenty of punishment before the bell rings.

R10: Rihanna sensing the momentum is now in her corner goes on the offensive once again. Within the first minute she works Mandy up against the ropes and starts battering away. However, it appears she may have opened up a little too early as Mandy starts to chipping away, working Rihanna’s chin and jaw to force her back. Mandy gets clear of the ropes and now takes charge. Rihanna looks dazed and confused as this come back/ Moore one-two to Rihanna’s head turns her legs rubbery and she goes down against the ropes. However bell rings as Rihanna regains her feet. Mandy has to settle for a 10-8 and--a DRAW!?

Mandy and Rihanna standing together with ref when this is announced and neither looks happy. Quick conference between the sides and THE FIGHT RESUMES!

R11: Mandy goes back to what worked earlier in the fight; her boxing skills and, as before, they work. Rihanna finds herself controlled and frustrated, but manages to hang in enough to keep it close.

R12: Rihanna gets her second wind and comes roaring out of her corner. Mandy is caught by surprise as she is pounded the length of the ring in furious leather blitzkrieg. Mandy’s back hits the strands and she is trapped. Rihanna bangs away, trying for the KO, but Mandy though battered to a stupor, just won’t go down.

R13: Mandy somehow pulls herself together and comes out boxing. Rihanna looks like she spent her reserves in the 12th. She looks increasingly exhausted and unable to mount another furious charge. Still, the BBU fighter won’t give up and keeps trying, though with diminishing effectiveness.

R14: Mandy looking tired herself now, but her hits-n’-hold strategy works very well for her allowing her to conserve her strength. Rihanna plodding, glaring with weary defiance at Mandy, but just doesn’t have the power left. Mandy essentially suffocates Rihanna’s remaining offensive efforts and goes on to win the approval of the judges:

UD14 Mandy Moore!\

After: “No way was I going to settle for a draw,” a weary, but triumphant Mandy tells press, “I was determined to end the losing strength with a win. I got to give credit to Ri, she never quit trying and I will admit she had me in trouble more than once.”
Rihanna says: “I wanted the win. So did Mandy. I almost had her the 12th, but I couldn’t put her away. After that I just didn’t have enough left. I still think I can beat. I hope I’ll get the chance to try again with her.”
