Jennifer Lawrence vs. Carrie Prejean (result:Simguy/words:simgrrl)

Ginny says of her controversial decision to go with Prejean: "It's not much of a match-up in absolute, or even box office, terms; but this is the right step to get Jen back on track after her disappointing upset loss to Abbie Cornish. The girl is young and she's eager; but we're going to take our time and develop her the right way...the way we brought along Hall of Famer, Charlize Theron."

A veteran FCBA observer analyzed Jen Lawrence thusly: "She's not too flashy or too cute -more your hard-nose, subtle, efficient, hard-working blue collar kinda girl. But she's smart. Built a lot like Jewel Kilcher...back in her heyday...but she's not just another 'walk in' girl. Lawrence has got some skills, so don't be fooled by that sturdy, built-to-take-punishment, body. She can take hits, sure; but Stone, Bell and even Theron will be working with her; they'll teach her to avoid that as much as possible. Whatever happens, as Lawrence matures, her punching power will develop a lot more than it is now. And with that body of hers, I don't have any doubt she'll grow into a full fledged big lightweight, maybe even a welter before she's done. Once she gets that power, nobody will be safe."

Prejean a 'pageant girl', there's no getting away from it - and all that implies. She's only 24 y/o but she's never had the training you'd expect - until her recent signing with Sceej last August. Usually, these pageant princesses begin fighting in their early teens when their 'stage mother' pushes them into beauty contests. Some girls love the competition; throw themselves into it like they were born to it; not Prejean. Raised in a strict Christian home, private schools, etc., she was shielded from the usual 'roughness' of a normal childhood. It wasn't until she competed in the Miss California and Miss USA pageants that she got a taste of the "rough housing" that pageant girls are accustomed to, so she's got a steep learning curve ahead of her, but she's young enough, and talented enough, that she could pull it off. With an overall record of 1-11 (and only two of those fights going the distance) she looks to have a long, hard, road ahead. The only bright spot on her record so far was her decision win over talented Jamie Luner in her second fight. Sadly, since then she seems to have regressed so tonight's fight with the less experienced Lawrence is a crucial test for her.

Attire: Prejean in white pageant bikini, gloves and shoes; Lawrence in a flesh toned one piece with red gloves, black shoes. Both wearing hair braided.

During R1: Prejean out boxing in a rigid, upright stance; leggy; pushing out the jab. It takes Jen a minute to corral Carrie as she systematically cuts the ring down one slice at a time - like cutting a sheet cake. Once she has Prejean in her sights, however, Lawrence systematically working over the blonde's long, lean, body with thudding impacts, forcing her back against the ropes, then coming up top to rock the taller blonde. Good, solid work by Lawrence once she gets on top of her girl as Prejean finishes up the round with her butt in the ropes; shipping shots.

R2: Similar stuff. Off her stool Prejean's approach is right on the money; legging around and working the jab. Carrie's giving Jen Lawrence some problems with her awkward style but she's not getting Jen's respect as much as she's annoying her thoroughly! Lawrence able to walk through Prejean's punches to work over her body in the latter half the round which quickly degenerates into Lawrence simply outworking Carrie for her points in grim toe-to-toe bullying; shouldering Prejean's butt back into the ropes, then bodying up to rip into her midsection with chuffing lefts and rights to the bell. Carrie looking decidedly shopworn on her stool between rounds; Lawrence's corner barking at her.

R3: Early action. Prejean draws Lawrence in as she retreats, then lands a nice counter right uppercut that sends shudders thru Lawrence's nubile body; but Prejean declines to commit and backs off rather than forcing the action trying to build on her success as Jen soaks up the power shot and comes back just that much harder to answer. Lawrence showing her grit in the closing minute; working hard to get back the points and despite some flurries from Prejean here and there, Lawrence comes out of it with no worse than a draw as she is able to put together several sustained bursts while Prejean settles for landing single potshots.

R4: Jen Lawrence off her stool standing before the bell; then sternly walking Prejean down behind a stiff, heavy, left jab. Once she gets on top of Carrie Prejean, Lawrence methodical; her systematic body work breaking Prejean down old school style. Jen abusing Prejean's pageant-worthy body, turning into rights and lefts to Prejean's head once she gets her thinking of protecting her body. Lawrence mixing it up well, breaking down Prejean's defenses and rocking her several times. Good old fashioned body bludgeoning beatdown for Jen Lawrence this round as Prejean just never able to get anything going.

During the break. Veteran Sceej corner man Scrubby McGee grabs Prejean by the shoulders, hissing instructions in her ear; Carrie, glum-visaged, nodding silently in response. Across the ring, Sharon Stone taking a knee in front of Lawrence; right hand tucked into the youngsters cleavage, tugging her forward for instructions; Stone's left hand, fist clenched; mimicking a left hook to Jen's right cheek.

R5 Lawrence again standing before the bell, strides out eager to continue the beatdown. Prejean pumping the jab more this round, trying to re-establish her rhythm. Prejean throwing more right hands, most missing but a couple get thru to put a jiggle in Jen's butt. She counters with left hands over the top whenever Jen throws the right, snapping Carrie's head. OMIGAWD IT'S OVER! IT'S ALL OVER!! A left hook dropped Carrie Prejean flat on her face and she's not moving! Shattering knockout thanks to a lot of solid groundwork Lawrence laid in the preceding two rounds. KO5 Jen Lawrence.

After: The knockout came so quickly many at ringside never saw it. One of those punches that was so short and fast, if you blinked you missed it! Watch it in replay; here's how it looked on the FCBA broadcast:

"...here in the 5th. These next...OHHHH A HUGE SHOT! SHE KNOCKED OUT CARRIE PREJEAN! She's out folks; that's it; game over. Jen Lawrence has knocked out Prejean who is motionless on the canvas after taking a huge shot flush on the jaw! We just hope she's OK because she hasn't moved; she's totally out! The doctor's have come rushing in...(long pause)...she's now awake. We can see her eyes are open but she has no idea where she is. Lawrence bending over her, checking she's alright. Prejean took a huge shot and just went completely limp; dropped facefirst to the canvas. We need to see the replay on that. It was a massive knockdown...you could hear her head hit the canvas...a double knockout..."

Lawrence looking relieved when Prejean's brought around and sitting up. "Sharon Stone and Cat Bell told me in training she was vulnerable to the left, but I kinda forgot for a while. But when Stone reminded me after the fourth round, it all came together. She's a tall girl, but a little wooden; robotic; in her approach. It's almost like you can see her counting one....two...three as she throws punches. It's a little bit predictable and once you time her, she's not that hard to hit."

Prejean unable (or unwilling) to face the media, but Scrubby McGee told a reporter who shoved a microphone in his face as he was helping Prejean to her dressing room, "The kid caught her with a perfect punch, no shame in that. Now get that #@%$&* thing outta my face!"
