BBU Lightweight Title

“Why Jennifer?” Poppy Montgomery responds to a pre-fight question. “Sure she beat Katy Perry, but she lost to Keeley Hazell and Britney Spears in her three most recent fights. Still, she showed spirit and I like that in an opponent. I am sure she’ll do the best she can.” Jennifer Ellison scowling snaps: “I seem to remember Jenny McCarthy kicking your posh arse. You’re not so tough and I’ll be the one show you up.” Poppy’s turn to scowl: “Leave McCarthy out of this or you’ll be sorry you did.” Jen gives Poppy a defiant grin, looksn pleased she got the champ irked.

Fight night finds Jennifer in a bright red bikini with red gloves. Jennifer’s blonde hair in a neat ponytail. Poppy in a navy bikini top and boy cut bottoms with navy blue gloves. Red hair tied in an elaborate braid with navy blue ribbon.

During R1: Jennifer comes bouncing out of her corner eager to have at the champion, but Poppy meets her with a cold, clinical power. Poppy lets Jen come at her, swinging wide for her head, but Poppy ducks these and rocks blonde with straight, piston-like jabs at her chin. Poppy stops, momentarily stunned, then Poppy swings hard with lefts and rights to the jaw. Blonde ponytail gets whipped around and Jennifer’s knees buckle. JENNIFER DOWN! Jennifer has sunk to her haunches, head bent forward and slowly shaking it. She manages to get up in time to break the count. Fight resumes Poppy charges in, pummeling Jennifer to the ropes and tries to pound her down right then and there. Jennifer forced to put her face in her gloves and hunch over, somehow getting through the redhead’s relentless leather storm. Poppy finishes round looking frustrated that the blonde is still standing. Ellison glassy-eyed, has to grasp the top rope to steady herself before making her way slowly to her corner.

R2: Jennifer tries to throw off the first round shelling and gets her jab going when Poppy comes in. Poppy hunches forward behind her guard and goes after Ellison’s torso. Hard, deep uppercuts dig into blonde tummy and Ellison rises up on her toes from the impacts. Poppy shifts and bangs away at Jen’s ribs, then back to the belly. Driving one-two’s into midsection doubles Jen over and SUDDENLY SHE DROPS TO HER KNEES! Jennifer gasping for breathe, holding her body, but shows great heart in once again staggering to her feet. Jennifer again summons the strength and courage to survive Poppy’s attempt to finish her against the ropes. Poppy looks exasperated that the blonde is still standing after the bell rings.

R3: Poppy comes out ready to finish off the blonde challenger, but Jennifer is not done yet. As Poppy comes in, Jen drops down and throws everything she’s got into a wild shot at redhead’s jaw. It’s an amazing punch and one Poppy certainly wasn’t looking for. Her head snaps back and she teeters backwards almost on tippy-toes. Jennifer looks on in wonder, but Poppy is still standing, though on shivering legs. Jennifer finally lunges forward, but Poppy shoots out the jab to knock the blonde back. Jennifer shifts position trying to move around and find a fresh opening. Poppy shows little desire for fresh offensive moves, she’s just desperately trying to clear her head and avoid another chin shot like the first one. This keeps action to a minimum for remainder of the round. Jennifer showed she’s still in this fight, but look of disappointment on her face reveals she knows she could have done more. Poppy just looks relieved to escape after eating such a terrific shot.

R4: No more nonsense from Poppy Montgomery: she moves steadily, but not recklessly towards Jennifer Ellison who does her best to keep Poppy back with her jab. However, Poppy keeps moving to evade the full effect of the jabbing and fires away at the Ellison tummy. Jennifer twists and turns trying to escape the champion’s leather, but she cannot and finds herself slowly driven back to the ropes. Jennifer lets her guard drop down to protect her ravaged middle, but then Poppy plasters Ellison’s bulging rack for the first time and sends them shooting up-down, left-right and then straight back in. Jennifer sobs and paws feebly at the fierce redhead. Now Poppy gloves crash into Ellison chin and jaw. Jennifer’s head bobbing alarmingly. Ringsiders start screaming for the referee to stop this carnage! After what seems like a frightening eternity (though really only a matter of seconds) the REFEREE STOPS THE FIGHT. The official leaps in and cradles the now sobbing Jennifer Ellison as Poppy Montgomery backs off, raising her arms in victory.
The winner and still BBU Lightweight champion Poppy Montgomery of Downunder Boxing TKO4.

After: “I will admit she nearly had me in the 3rd,” Poppy acknowledges after the fight, “and that was mainly because I got careless. Still, when she gets the chance she has a punch like a mule, but fortunately I didn’t give her any more chances. It was a good fight, but closer than it should have been.”

For her part Jennifer says: “I should have followed up that 3rd round punch, but I didn’t and it cost me the fight. I’m not going to obsess over it. I had a title shot and I rang the champ’s bell. I think I proved I deserved the title shot and I will work on getting another
