BBU Welterweight Title Bout

Before: Some surprise in BBU circles at 0-1-0 Aussie Erika Heynatz being given title shot, but Sabrina Washington insists: “Erika looked pretty impressive to me against Elle MacPherson. Sure Elle knocked her out, but I wanted to give her chance to say she’d fought Sabrina Washington.” Erika seems uncertain whether or not champ is actually mocking her, but takes the high road: “I would like to point out I was Super Lightweight Champion in the old AWUBA and I consider myself more than qualified to be in this fight. If Sabrina is underestimating me, she will regret it.”

Fight night finds Sabrina in a silver bikini trimmed in black with black gloves. Ericka is wearing a tan-colored bikini with green gloves.

R1: If fans were expecting Sabrina to come out and try to dominate the taller Australian they are surprised when the champ takes a more cautious, probing attack to begin the battle. Erika has her guard up and copes well with Sabrina’s punches. Sabrina slowly builds up the pressure and finally gets inside Erika’s defensives to hammer her sternum, then pump some uppercuts to knock her head back. Erika remains cool and does her best to counter. Sabrina gets the round on points, though it is close.

R2: Punch rate slowly picks up over the course of this round. Erika starting to do some probing of her own and finding Sabrina ribs with regularity. Sabrina seems to be willing sacrifice her body if she can get in close and get to Australian’s head. Suddenly Ericka loops in a right over Sabrina’s high guard catches her on the temple. Sabrina lurches forward on swaying legs. Ericka turns a shoulder to push champ back and then swings a right cross to the temple. SABRINA LANDS ON HER SIDE! Sabrina rolls to all four and pauses, letting her spinning head settle while the ref does his counting. Sabrina up by 9 and trying to shake off the knockdown. Erika moves back in behind a steady barrage of straight lefts and rights. Sabrina blocking incoming, looks sharp-eyed for an opening and suddenly shoots forward with a hammer-like uppercut in Aussie solar plexus. Erika groans and doubles up. Champ gives the challenger a shove to the shoulders which sends Australian onto her backside! Referee pushes champ back and sternly wags admonishing finger in her face. Erika back on her feet quickly, but looks to be hurting as fight resumes. Erika careful to protect her midsection, but pays for by eating Sabrina’s shots to her head. Erika finally clinches repeatedly to the bell to keep champ at bay.

R3: Sabrina goes after Erika’s body with a vengeance this round. Erika banged back to the ropes and worked over as she bends forward. Sabrina standing over the Australian trying to get a shot up into that solar plexus. Suddenly Erika gives a groan and SINKS TO HER KNEES CLUTCHING SABRINA! Sabrina rains punches down on Erika, but referee drags her off as Erika (still on her knees) falls back against the ropes. Sabrina fighting the referee for several moments but finally controls herself as a shaky-legged Erika is getting back to her feet ahead of the delayed count. Fight resumes, but Ericka starts moving away from Sabrina’s attempts to get her back on the ropes. Sabrina can’t seem to catch the Aussie who survives to the bell.

R4: Determined work in the Wildetime Boxing corner has Erika ready for action when bell rings. Sabrina expecting to pick up where she left off in R3, instead finds herself in a furious punching battle with the challenger. Erika hammering ribs to get Sabrina’s guard down, while Sabrina swinging to take Aussie’s head off, but Erika able to duck the haymakers. Then Erika gets a measure of payback when she finds Sabrina’s solar plexus and pounds in the leather. Sabrina retreats, plainly hurting and Erika throws a wild haymaker of her own that catches champ behind the ear. Sabrina crashes to the canvas! She lays there stunned, but rises to her knees and then back up. Erika rushing back walks straight into Sabrina left hook/right cross and she stumbles to her knees. Erika back up and the two fire away at each other to the bell. Crowd out of their seats, screaming with excitement, waiting to see who breaks down first, but bell maintains the stalemate. Very exciting round for slugfest enthusiasts.

R5: Slugging continues into the 5th round. Girls are circling each other, close enough to hit, but distant enough to step back to avoid the clinch. Both seem to be knocking heads back and alternately pounding each other to the body. Fighters clearly giving their all to as sweat pours down their bodies. Late in the round, Erika’s attacks on Sabrina’s flanks seem to be increasingly effective as champ hunches up protective. Erika keeps looking for angles to get at the champ and finds them as Sabrina’s face twists in pain.

R6: Sabrina not giving up in the least. She heads for Erika at the opening and starts trying to get at her. Erika forced onto the defensive, but counters and jabs with defiance. Sabrina’s damaged ribs vulnerable to Erika’s counterpunches and over the course of the round, Erika slowly wears down the champ’s flanks. Final shot to the rightside ribs at the bell draws a loud groan from Sabrina who clutches at her side and holds it all the way back to her corner.

R7: Frantic work in the Beever’s Babes corner during the break. Some indication that Sabrina may have a cracked rib or ribs and, if so, she should throw in the towel. Sabrina leaps to her feet and angrily denounces the idea. “She may beat me, but I won’t quit on my stool!” She’s heard to cry. Not apparent the Wildetime corner can hear the exact words over the crowd noise, but Erika and her people seem to size up the situation. Sabrina does answer the bell and is trying her best to cover those right ribs. Erika seems more intent on finding Sabrina’s chin as the punching commences. Knocks Sabrina’s head side to side. Sabrina instinctively raises gloves to protect her face. Erika responds by pounding drive into that right flank. Suddenly Sabrina lets out a terrible groan and clutches her side. Referee jumps in to protect the champ from further damage. He asks Sabrina if she can go on. Tears are rolling down Sabrina’s cheeks as she spits out her mouthpiece and says in a tragic voice: “No, I can’t. They hurt too much!” Referee nods and signals this fight is over! The winner by a TKO7 and NEW BBU WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION: ERIKA HEYNATZ OF WILDETIME BOXING!

After: Erika personally helps the heartbroken Sabrina Washington back to her corner. (Later x-rays will confirm a cracked a rib). Then she turns to revel in the celebration of her victory. She tells the press: “I really don’t think of this as that big an upset. I was a champion in Australia and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that I’ve become a champion here.”

Sabrina Washington (her ribs taped up) is still crestfallen when she speaks to the press: “I wanted to go on, but I just couldn’t with that rib. They tell me it will heal up just fine, but all I care about is getting my title back. I enjoyed being champion too much not to want to be one again.”
