TESS VALMORE

This weekend’s PPV was a good one. How slippery are the FCBA titles? We had three title fights and three title changes. Two on the first defense and the other on the second. We also had three extra round fights. Right now that extra round rule is voluntary. I would like to see it mandatory. You know how we just hate draws. You might think, the FCBA is a young woman’s sport but the new flyweight champ is 32, the bantam champ 39, the lightweight champ 38 and the welter champ 36
.
We had a much better record with our predictions than we had in the last PPV going 17-12, Not great by any means, just better. We still have the Asylum PPV to go and should improve that total

MADEKWE/ LACHMAN. I have to admit that I don’t spend 24 hours a day watching the little screen, so I don’t know who these two are. I think we will begin a new policy. We aren’t even going to try until a fighter has been around for around 10 fights, It was with no anticipation that I watched this fight. It wasn’t bad. Fairly even through five. In the sixth Madekwe floored Lachman twice. That should have been a hint to Lachman that maybe shouldn’t slug it out. She didn’t take the hint and ended up senseless in the referee’s arm. Madekwe TKO8

SCHERZINGER/ COOK This was a one sided bout for seven rounds. Cook was cruising to a win having decked Scherzinger in the second and sixth rounds. In the eighth, Scherzinger finally got going and took it to Cook pretty good for the rest of the fight. She had Cook in bad shape in the tenth, and was looking for the referee to stop the fight. He didn’t. Cook lasted the round and took the fight by a decision

MICHALKA/ YUSTMAN. I thought Michalka dominated the fight. We had her taking seven on the ten rounds. She floored Yustman in the eighth. Both hit the canvas in the ninth with Michalka finishing the round in better shape. Ali took the tenth and the decision

DANES/ HAZELL Or should I refer to it as classy vs sloppy. Hazell had her moments with her sloppy antics, but Danes stayed classy working Hazell body and getting out of a couple tense moments. In the eighth, Danes body work finally paid off with Hazell unable to take anymore, going down for the count

FREEMAN/ BJORLIN This was a rousing, slugging fight. Freeman went down in the third. Bjorlin went down in the fourth and Freeman had the lead on the cards at the end of five. The slugging continued with Freeman getting the better of it. In the eighth, Freeman landed a pair of right uppercuts and Bjorlin went down and out.

SCAGLLIOTTI/ LEYODEN A newbie vs veteran No contest here. Leyoden did use a little trunk pulling, well maybe more than a little, but she also punched Scaglliottj into next week in about five minutes.

SWANEPOEL/ CUCUO I think this was one of Cucuo’s best performances in the recent past. She was in charge of the fight almost all the way. In the ninth a hook to the stomach, a hook the chin and a right uppercut ended Swanepoel’s night. Cucuo KO9

WINSTEAD/ STRAHOVSKI This was a best of five fight that went Winstead’s way, but it wasn’t easy. After decking Strahovski in the second, she went down herself in the fourth. That knockdown seemed to inspire Winstead. She came out blazing in the fifth and took it to Strahovski in the fifth and sixth. In the seventh, a couple hooks put the blonde down and out. A big win for Winstead, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say she is back to her former self. Like they say, it’s hard to come back if you have never been anywhere.

HEMMENS/ HUDGENS To me this was a surprising performance from Hemmens. She had a wide lead at the end of nine, including knockdowns in the sixth and seventh. All Hemmens had to do was stay on her feet to win the fight, and that is what she did. Barely. Hudgens came on strong and had Hemmens helpless, but the referee didn’t stop the fight and it went to the cards. Hemmens got the decision,

UPTON/ MILLER A pair of supermodels. The fight promised to be a good show. So much for promises. The fight lasted two minutes. Series of uppercuts put Miller in dreamland. The second win for the Jeri’s light/welter

LOVATO/ KRUEK Lovato is listed as a “guest” boxer for Foxfire Atlantic. After this fight, you might imagine her “guest” status might be worn out. Granted she was facing a veteran, but Kruek who has had a rough two years, pitched a ten round shut out.

VANDERVOORT/ MENOUNOS Vandervoort shut out in nine rounds and beaten into a TKO stupor? Who would have thought it. I actually thought she would win this fight. A simply stunning performance from Menounos. As noted, this has to be the worst defeat Vandervoort has suffered. Sometimes a loss like this can be a career ender. We will have to wait and see how Laura comes back in her next bout

ATKINSON/ PERRY Atkinson had a good first round. That’s about all you can say about her performance. She was lucky to finish the second round as Perry got a little over anxious. In the third round Perry simply destroyed Atkinson and was left a wreck on the canvas

HYLAND/ MEESTER You know what I said above about not bothering to learn who someone is until they have been around for ten fights. Hyland looks like one who I will not have to learn about. Meester simply pounded her into oblivion, flooring her five time in seven rounds. Hyland didn’t survive the last knockdown

DUFF/ CLARKSON A pair of journeymen put on a reasonably good fight. Clarkson has the lead until the sixth, when a big right hook to the chin short circuited Clarkson’s legs and she went down for the count

HATHAWAY/ PEREGRYM I know big upsets happen almost every PPV, but I have to wonder why Hathaway’s management thought she could beat Peregrym. Missy is one of the best lightweights around. Hathaway managed to win one round before Peregrym landed a right uppercut to the chin that put Hathaway away big time.

CRUZ/ S. MILLER This was the fight of the night up to this point. A real pier six brawl. Miller was down in the third. Cruz went down in the fifth. Cruz went down again in the seventh and then had Miller wobbly at the end of the round. It was a pair of weary battlers that entered the tenth, but Miller landed a hook, a cross and another hook and Cruz went down out cold,

MUMFORD/ ROBBIE Another pair who fall into my ten fight rule. Robbie was in control of the fight through six and had decked Mumford in the fifth. At the beginning of the sixth, Mumford won an exchange of rights and Robbie hit the canvas. She beat the count but Mumford wouldn’t be denied. She took Robbie out with a series of rights.

NOLIN/ BROOK What can I say. I warned Brook about wearing more protection in her trunks. Another dirty win by Nolin. Every round she won, she fouled. The FCBA has been putting up with Nolin’s dirty tactics for years, so why should we expect anything differently now. Nolin won by a fifth round KO with a lot of help from a non-seeing referee.

KELLY/ HEWITT It’s no secret that I am not a big fan of Hewitts, so to say I was happy the way this fight turned out is an understatement. It wasn’t, however, an easy fight for Kelly. Kelly was lucky to survive the sixth round in which she went down, and was sitting in the ropes when the round ended. The failure to finish Kelly proved Hewitt’s undoing. In the seventh Kelly used Hewitt’s bra for target practice, punching Hewitt into shocked helplessness and the fight was stopped

ANWAR/ RIPA. A couple of years ago this would have been referred to as a “cougar” fight. No longer as it appears fighters are going into their fifties. Two 42 year olds. One a veteran with a unspectacular career and the other new to the FCBA. Ripa took less than three rounds to dispose of Anwar. She decked her twice in the first and finished her off in the third. This was a disappointing showing by Anwar and indicates her career in the FCBA is going to be short.

BECKINSALE/ McCARTHY. A lot of money riding on this fight. Millions in fact. The fans certainly got their moneys worth is this bout. Both went down in the second. McCarthy was down in the fifth. Beckinsale was hurt in the sixth. At the end of ten the fight was called a draw. For those new to the FCBA, a draw is referred to as a Tractorpull special because we used to rant about draws. We had a bizarre situation of Beckinsale actually leaving the ring and going to her dressing room and demanding stipulations from McCarthy to continue the fight. McCarthy had her way, unfortunately for her. Beckinsale took the eleventh and twelfth. Mac got a walk of shame, and had to kiss her charm on Beckinsale’s bracelet. On top of that, she owes the Wiz one million and thats in dollars

WILDE/ VANCAMP OK, It’s time for me to learn who Vancamp is. She was 5-1 last year and was impressive in taking out a very good Oliva Wilde. The fight was even through six. At the beginning of the seventh, Vancamp landed a right uppercut that stunned Wilde and left her open to a Vancamp blitz that ended with another right uppercut that sent Wilde down for the count

KUNIS/ HALE This was not a good night to be facing the Consortium. While the rounds may have been close, we had Kunis winning them all. In the eighth she hammered Hale into a stupor and the fight was stopped. Kunis continues to impress

LIMA/ REFAELI For the Ice Hotel title. These Ice Hotel fights tend to be slugging brawls and this was no exception. While Lima went down in the third, it was fairly even going into the eighth. It went no further. Refaeli managed to tee off on Lima dropping het twice, the last time for the count.

STEWART/ CYRUS The bloom is off Cyrus as she loses her third straight fight albeit to a better fighter. Cyrus decked Stewart twice in the third but didn’t put her away. She failed to follow up in the fourth. Those failures cost her when Stewart landed a clean right to the chin that didn’t need a follow up because Cyrus was in Lala land

GARNER/ LAWRENCE i guess I am sentimental. Absolutely nothing against Lawrence, but I wanted to see Garner win this fight and help make her final tour a good one. For the first three rounds, it was looking good. Then in the fourth Lawrence decked Garner and it was down hill from there. Garner managed to take the last two rounds but it wasn’t enough and Lawrence got a well deserved decision

PARE/ THERON. I watched this fight and I don’t know if Pare is that good or Charlize had a really flat night. The rounds were hotly contested and Theron scored the only knockdown. The tenth was a disaster for Theron as Pare punched her out on her feet. The referee was ready to stop the fight when the bell rang. Pare then demanded the fight go into extra rounds. Big mistake. Against the advise of her cornermen, Charlize accepted and then won two straight rounds to get the decision. It was not a good night for the “golden goddess” and could indicate trouble for the aging blonde. For Pare, it seems she can fight a lot better than she can sing. By the way that Mad Men Zou Bisou Bisou performance was lip synced

TISDALE/ CARTER Miss Tisdale’s first defense would be her last. Carter looked good in the first two rounds. In the third Carter was sensational. She floored Tisdale with a couple body blows. Tisdale made it to her feet only to be caught by a couple more vicious body punches that set up a right uppercut to the chin. Tisdale counted out just seconds before the round ended

McADAMS/ CAMPBELL Miss McAdams first defense would be her last. It was, however, a great fight, McAdams built up a big lead in the first half of the fight only to see Campbell stage a comeback in the second half. McAdams had to win the tenth in order to get a draw. If she stopped then, she could have retained her title. This time it was the champion who demanded extra rounds. For the third time tonight, the one who demanded extra rounds lost the fight. Is there a lesson here? The two split the next two rounds. McAdams could win if she took the thirteenth. Instead Campbell ripped into her and put her on the canvas. McAdams beat the count, but the round ended and it was an unanswered knockdown for Neve that set off jubilation in Front Street as the stable has it’s first crown. Not delivered by one of their winning young members, but by a veteran trainer. Is that a feel good story or what?

PALICKI/ HELFER This was not Miss Palicki’s first defense, it was her second and her last. This was one of those fights were I hated to see either lose. Helfer is known to be one of the best boxers in the FCBA, but in this bout she showed she also has power. While Helfer kissed the canvas in the second, she put Palicki down in the third and sixth. She had the lead going into the tenth. She solidified her claim to title by punching Adrianne into a helpless wreck in the final round. Helfer winning the title causes me to wonder if Charlize will trash the welter title.

RIGHETTI/ ROMJIN So nobody wants to agree. Fine. We repeat this is a two woman division. Sure, they can be upsets as Patton and Theron proved. Here we have a 40 year old fighter with a losing record going against one of the P4P contenders. We got the result we expected. Romjin had a good first half but Righetti owned the second half and got the decision. You can throw all the names around you want but until someone proves they are the equal of Righetti or Regan, it’s a two woman division (not to mention that Theron is an actual lightweight)
