BBU BOUT

The big question in this fight is – Will the wily Abbie be another victim for the undefeated Sayuki as the Japanese girl contuse to cut a swathe through the BBU lightweight division?

Abbie is looking like she means business as she jogs on the spot in her scarlet one piece outfit, whilst Sayuki, in a dark blue bikini tonight, just stare at her, grinning to herself a little.

Round 1

Abbie looks the bigger girl here, and she’s being very physical in the early moments, trying to push the fiery Japanese girl of her stride, she wrestles Matsumoto, forces her to get on the defensive then uses her own speed and footwork to deny Matsumoto’s hard punches. This is good stuff from Abbie, working hard on Sayuki, and drawing the strength from her early on, and now the round’s drawing to a close, and it’s all Cornish! Sayuki gets hit hard to the body, and she’s having to tuck her elbows in to protect that lovely slim frame of hers, but her gloves cannot protect her face, and certainly can’t offer protection from the terrible assault that Abbie launches, and she smashes two right hooks smack into Sayuki’s jaw there, and she is down! Matsumoto able to beat the count at 8, and there’s no time for any more action - what a start for Cornish!

Round 2

Abbie comes out quickly and powerfully again, and she soon has Sayuki introuble as she pushes the girl to the ropes, then cuffs her good and hard to the body. Sayuki’s covering up, but she’s finding this a tough ask so far tonight, getting pushed and pulled around by a girl who seems tp know what she wants and how to get it. Abbie just controls Sayuki, and she moves her back into a corner and gets some good work done on her body. Maybe Cornish is tiring slightly, though, as she’ throwing a lesser volume of punches and at last has to take a few back, but in the late moments, she manages to land more on the surprised Japanese girl, who is seemingly getting outpunched tonight.

Round 3

There’s an incredible start again in the third, and Cornish is just on autopilot! The Australain gets through to Sayuki again and again, and she moves her with ease across the ring and into the ropes , gives her a battering around the ribs, and then lands a left hook to the jaw. Matsumoto is absolutely stunned by Cornish’s attacks, but she bravely tries to counter, throws a nice rght, and left combination in response now, but exposes herself to more punishment. Cornish finds Matsumoto’s chin again with her right hook and Sayuki is down again! Matsumoto has to summon al her strength to get on her feet again at 8 – things are looking bad for her! There’s not long on the clock in this round, but Abbie sets Sayuki in the corner and hurts her to the body once more.

Round 4

At last Abbie is beginning to look a liitle more human, and Sayuki is able to avoid those stinging bodyshots in the opening seconds of this round, and she lands a few of her own back at the blonde. Cornish slows down, and this is looking more like the fight we expected, with Sayuki skipping and punching her way around the bigger girl and landing punches more or less at will, as she feels her opponent begin to wilt under the sheer volume of the leather she is able to throw despite those knockdowns. Sayuki is finally able to control a round, and it’s Abbie who looks the more pleased to hear the bell.

Round 5

Abbie Cornish is tiring visibly, and now she’s in trouble – Sayuki uses her acknowlesdged speed around the ring, and the power of her snappy, chopping punches to damage the blonde. She unleashes a good combo, and she puts Cornish down in the first minute with a booming left hook, dropping the bigger girl for a 6 count. Abbie seems to draw strength from that, and she’s back on the attack again, getting pretty irritated though, because Sayuki isn’t looking like standing and trading – strangely for her she’s on her bike, jabbing on the retreat, her punches landing cleanly though, while Abbie’s seem to be getting ragged and careless, and she just can’t keep up the momentum she started with.

Round 6

Matsumoto is not as dancey and hoppy in the opening stages, and she’s almost sluggish with some of her work, but Cornish, even though she’s more active, she seems to wind down somehow. The round seems to be drifting somewhat, which is understandable after a feverish first 5 rounds, but Cornish is looking very tired down the stretch, and the Japanese girl pings her smack in the mouth with a solid straight left which has her staggering. Now Sayuki’s able to work on the Australian’s body and her punches are really making Abbie stagger now, landing with her left and her right and Cornish goes down again! Abbie took a big left hook to the jaw there, but manages to beat the count at 8 - all of her advantage has gone now, and it’s Sayuki looking more like the prospect she is.

Round 7

Cornish seems unable to change her pace at this stage – her legs are looking a little wobbly, and it’s a resurgent Sayuki who is emerging as the harder puncher. In she comes again, and back goes Cornish, taking a left, then a right, and her lips are smkeared with blood – Sayuki’s really whipping her left hand into Abbie’s face now, and the Australian starts to bruise up –Matsumoto keeps the assault going on and on, with Abbie now protecting her face, but having to take some nasty digs in her body, wicked hooks which are starting to take the fight out of her at last.

Round 8

Abbie Cornish is really tired now, and her bruised face is beginning to trouble her for sure. Matsumoto sets the blonde up nicely, left, right to the body, then gives her the right uppercut – in comes the left hook, and she floors Abbie again in the first minute of round 8, Abbie staggers up at 7, but now a rampant Japanese girl is giving it to her with both gloves, and now she has a well beaten Abbie struggling to stand, traps her at the ropes, works there and floors her for good in the last seconds of the round, that uppercut of hers switching the blonde’s lights out.

Sayuki Matsumoto knocked Abbie Cornish out in round 8.

That was savage, brutal – and ultimately very satisfying for the still unbeaten Sayuki. Abbie takes a while to regain her senses, and sayuki’s in her corner – not to humiliate, though, but to congratulate, which is good to see.
