Phoebe Tonkin is tall, talented and unbeaten. Manuela Arcuri is tall, talented and unbeaten. Phoebe is taller, but Manuela is hotter. Who will win? Will the 12 year age gap be a deciding factor?

Manuela is hot, that’s for sure, and her black bikini is beautifully cut to show off her body. Phoebe has gone for a white bikini top and hotpants tonight, and looks good herself, but, well, not by comparison!

Round 1

The girls are definitely not playing at this, and they crash punches into each other’s face right off the bell, with Phoebe’s left hand finding Manuela early, the Italian countering, and the pair of them getting tagged, but neither of them wilting. Phoebe uses her height well, and she picks Manuela off a little when the challenger misses with a couple of swipes, then gets caught herself, tries to cover up with her gloves upside her head, then gets pinged with a shortarm uppercut which pops her head up and back, and hit in the ribs once, twice, three times. She fights back well in the closing stages, leveling the round out again by jabbing Manuela accurately around the mouth and nose.

Round 2

Phoebe is aggressive now, and she jabs away at Manuela’s face really hard, has the Italian moving around the ring in reverse gear, but then gets pulled up short – Arcuri stands firm, slips inside Tonkin’s reach, lands with a right, and again, lands a left, and she sends Phoebe down, the Australian on her ass and swaying. Phoebe gets to her feet at 7, but Arcuri is in a zone different to the one she occupied before the knockdown, and she just bangs the champion to the ribs with good punches from either hand, and has her struggling and stumbling at the close of round 2.

Round 3

The pace drops slightly, but it’s all Manuela now, the Italian finding her way past Phoebe’s long lead, and she hurts the Aussie with some hefty punches around her upper ribs, then seeks out the softer flesh further down, and she’s making the champ suffer with this body beating, really hurting her. Phoebe manages to land a few jabs from time to time, but she has to keep her right fist back, having to defend her body with it, as the Italian girl has no respect for her punches, and is just thudding shots into her, content to take a shot to land a shot.

Round 4

It’s looking bleak for Phoebe now as Manuela is beginning to land shots from all sorts of angles, and she even sends the taller girl backwards with a savage punch to the belly, then smashes her in the face, once, and again with her left hook, and when the girls break from the resulting clinch, Phoebe has been cut in the right eyebrow. Manuela focuses on that damage, and she starts to sting the champ with punches, the girl looking confused, unsure how to react, and not knowing how much damage she’s taken. She gets through the round, but she seems to be on bambi’s legs as she goes to her corner.

Round 5

Manuela looks confident and ready, and she starts off the round in very aggressive mode, pinning Phoebe towards the ropes with a series of punches to the face, lands to her body when she gets her there, but then gets smacked by the taller girl who at least uses that reach, holds the Italian off, then knocks her head back and forth with some good punches to the head. The girls are swapping shots now, with Phoebe still on the ropes, but she’s landing the better shots, and too many of Arcuri’s punches are being taken on gloves and arms, not finding their way to the champ’s face, as she reddens the Italian up with some nice, neat jabs, at last looking like she’s in this fight.

Round 6

Now Phoebe exerts some control, and she’s using that long reach to keep Manuela back, for the first time since the first round actually forcing the challenger to the ropes, and now she lands, and lands well. Arcuri’s head is getting bumped by the pumping action of the Aussie’s glovework, and she looks like she may go down at any time now, takes a good right hook, then turns the champ, hurts her to the belly, and reopens that cut eye with an uppercut to the stooping girl’s face, the blood dribbling down her cheek. Phoebe rallies, gets to work again, but even though she still takes the round, she seems to be the more disappointed party when they return to their corners.

Round 7

Phoebe is looking troubles, and the large blob of grease on her eye is soon sent across the ring and into the fans when Manuela spanks a left hook right on it. Tonkin needs to be careful now, and that’s what she is, clinching Arcuri, and not letting her land punches to her damaged face. It’s not pretty to watch, and it’s not winning her friends or points, but there’s little else Phoebe can do with blood running down her face and affecting her vision. She uses her height and muscle power to bind the Italian in, and Manuela gets frustrated, throws wild shots at the champ’s body and finds herself eating a couple of jabs in the closing seconds.

Round 8

On the girls go, with Phoebe still defending well, still holding, maybe hoping that Manuela will lose her cool? Not this girl, though – she’s determined, and she finds Phoebe’s body with two hard left hand shots, the girl gasping as they land, and her gloves fall in reflex, exposes her jaw just for a second, and that’s all Manuela needs, as she cracks in a right hook to put Phoebe down. The Australian is on her back, gets halfway to her feet at 6, then drops down, her legs jellied, and she'’s counted out.

Manuela Arcuri knocked out Phoebe Tonkin in round 8, to become the new BBU lightweight champion.

Now that was a good performance! Manuela showed power and skill to take the title from Phoebe, and whoever she fights next will get a hard fight, especially now she’s got the BBU belt!
