Top 10 Bantamweights

Champion: Neve Campbell

(1) Alyson Michalka
(2) Evangeline Lilly
(3) Elisha Cuthbert
(4) Olivia Munn
(5) Rachel McAdams
(6) Eliza Dushku
(7) Emily VanCamp
(8) Piper Perabo
(9) Olivia Wilde
(10) Britney Spears

This is the division that saw the most change, honestly.

Alyson Michalka is currently our number one contender due to her overall success, including an impressive 3-0 record thus far this year. While she has lost to both Olivia Munn and Evangeline Lilly, ranked lower than her, she has compiled wins over Candice Swanapoel, Laura Vandervort, Danielle Fishel and Olivia Wilde. However, if she wants to stay at number one, she'll need to start not only taking on top ten competition, but winning. Evangeline Lilly is ranked down below Aly due to only three (3!) matches (compared to 10 for Aly, not including BBU bouts for her) in 2011 but is 2-0 this year and we expect she'll be moving up if she keeps up that success.

No doubt Jessica Alba will not be pleased to see Elisha Cuthbert ranked up this high, but Elisha Cuthbert had an amazing 2011 (going undefeated in eight matches and holding two titles at one point). However, Elisha as definitely struggled in 2012. Elisha had had three successive losses in a row (two to big rivals and two JMD losses). Elisha just won a Best of 7 contest with Jennifer Love Hewitt – the results of which have moved her up in the rankings up above one of her most hated rivals. Big matches like that carry big risks and in this case, big rewards. Olivia Munn, currently Blonde! Magazine's number one target, had an extremely successful 2011 and is doing well in 2012, but a recent loss to Laura Vandervoort prevents her from moving up any higher right now. Big wins in the JMD field lately, with perhaps a shot against Lacey Chabert may help her leapfrog upwards, although Lacey is a flyweight. However, in a JMD match, the only size they seem to care about is your bra size.

Rachel McAdams had a losing record in 2011 but is doing well in 2012, winning the bantamweight title before losing it to the current champ and then rebounding by beating Piper Perabo, which is a good sign of mental toughness for Ms. McAdams. Eliza Dushku had only two (2!) matches in 2010 and a mixed record in 2011 (3-3), but is 2-0 in 2011 against good competition. If she keeps that up, the “Sherriff” will be moving back on top of the FCBA once again.

Personally, we feel it's a little early to have Emily VanCamp ranked this high, but her recent record and her win over Olivia Wilde confirms it for now. Piper Perabo had an amazing 2011 against top competition but has lost three of her last four. Piper Perabo should be ranked higher and will be once she returns to her winning ways. Too tough not to be. Olivia Wilde had a very successful 2011, but followed up a win over Minka Kelly in 2012 with a loss to Emily VanCamp.

Britney Spears dropped all the way to 10 in our rankings. Although Ms. Spears did briefly hold the bantamweight title in 2011, she hasn't fought top 10 competition since 2010 (when she won the title) and has since mainly fought BBU fighters. In 2009, Ms. Spears was entirely winless against top competition with only 3 (3!) matches. In fact, the only top 10 competition she's been able to beat since 2007 (for the record – five years ago) is Rachel McAdams, though we will give her credit for that. Ms. Spears currently appears to be in semi-retirement, not the number one contender. Ms. Spears is lucky to be ranked this high and if she doesn't start taking on better competition soon, she won't be. This may be Britney's first and last appearance in the top 10 of FCBA Magazine. Hopefully this motivates her to compete once again.

It pains us to drop Allison Mack and Grace Park from the top 10 rankings, but our panel deemed it necessary.

Alison Mack had a spotty record in 2010 (embroiled all year in a losing rivalry with Danielle Fishel), but like Park, rebounded with a 5-0 record in 2011. Also like Park, she scored a win over a flyweight (Heather Hemmens), which can hardly be counted. Most of her other wins were against fighters who are not actively competitive in the FCBA. She did compete in AHW competition, but again, ambushing flyweights (Jessica Lowndes) which we will elect not to reward.

Grace Park had a losing record in 2010 (2-4), but rebounded in 2011 with a 5-0 record. However, one of those wins was against a flyweight (Brenda Song) which can hardly be counted. Matches against Top 10 Competition such as Eliza Dushku or big names like Jenny McCarthy were unsuccessful, though she did manage to beat Rachel McAdams in 2011. This year, she has a 2-1 record, though not against any stiff competition as of yet. Her win over Eva Mendes was impressive, though again, Ms. Mendes has not been in consistent FCBA competition as of late.

This is a very active division, though like Jessica Alba mentioned in the latest edition of Bantam Buzz!, a division in need of some change. Looking over the rankings here, Ms. Alba may be right. It will need some work to restore it to the premier division in the FCBA.
