Before: Rubber match for Holly’s tour. Unlike Robie or Vaugier, both ladies have excellent beach credentials. Laura confident at pre-fight press conference: “I hear Holly has a big reputation as a beach fighter, but this is my sand and I intend to defend it. I rule the beach around here and she’s going to learn that the hard way.” Holly equally sure of herself, “I’m happy to give this girl a try. Don’t know who she is, I’ll suss her out for a round or two, then break her with what she gives me.”
Bleachers surrounding ring in a U-shaped configuration, showers set-up in both corners to cool fighters down between rounds.
Holly in black DOA bra & panties, Laura in blue bikini, both blondes with their hair shower-wet in fighting tousles, black gloves all around

R1: Both fighters’ jabs dominate the first round. Laura feeling out her opponent, keeping her distance. Holly more aggressive, wants to start working on the smaller girl, but Vandervoort won’t cooperate.

R2: Holly’s done her homework, comes out hard and fast, much more pressure on Laura as she’s crowded, forced to retreat under pressure. Valance able to get inside, work over Vandervoort’s body with hooks, gets a little wild in the second minute AND LAURA MAKES HER PAY FOR IT! HARD jab to the solar plexus paralyses her, then Vandervoort is able to back her up with jab/cross combos upstairs. Final minute, Laura shifts targets, goes for Holly’s body, catches Valance with her guard down, and plants an uppercut THAT SENDS HOLLY TO THE CANVAS! Valance up quickly, takes her medicine for the rest of the round as Vandervoort steals this one in “why hasn’t this girl ever had a title shot” fashion.

R3: Laura comes out looking to finish things, runs into a Holly who isn’t quite done yet. Almost as if the last round didn’t happen, Valance first counterpunches effectively to stymie Vandervoort’s offense, then begins backing her up in the second minute. Same high pressure, crowding tactics that got her into trouble in the second, but timing Laura better, not giving her a chance to put together any effective response.

R4: Holly’s longer legs give her the advantage in the straightaways, but Laura is all angles this round. Vandervoort so cute in defense; slipping, bobbing, weaving, Valance just can’t get a clean hit in. Jabbing for points, Laura takes the round on almost picture-perfect boxing.

R5: Laura still putting on a show, making her bones as she pivots and angles her way around her foe. Holly making some headway, able to get some jabs through Laura’s defenses. Neither fighter in any danger, but Vandervoort takes her second straight round.

R6: Holly gets the drop on Laura this round, clinching her roughly, then bodies her back into the ropes. Hard, muscular work as Valance does her best to cripple her nimble foe while she has the chance. Halfway through the round, the damage accumulated is too much and Laura sinks to her knees. She beats the count, but can’t keep Holly from bulling her back into the ropes, and she gets a tousle-grinding beat-down for the rest of the round.

R7: Neither fighter a natural slugger, but Holly’s the best one in this ring. Laura’s being forced to stand and deliver, and she does so with gusto. A hot, moist point-blank exchange as both fighters put hard, punishing blows to their enemy’s torso. Wet, heavy smacks as blows strike home, hot breath exploding in each other’s faces as their bellies take the brunt of this grueling round. Laura fights her heart out, but still come in second in these critical mouth-on-shoulder exchanges.

R8: Holly manhandles Laura into the ropes again, and for two minutes we have a repeat of the last two rounds as the bigger, brawnier girl continues to reduce Vandervoort in the pocket. Laura’s not ready to go just yet, and she times a CLANGING LEFT HOOK COUNTER that sends Holly reeling back to mid-ring! Vandervoort comes off the ropes, and bangs out a clean up to Valance’s body to steal the round late. This thing’s all tied up heading into the championship rounds, both fighters chests heaving under their showers.

R9: Both fighters must have been having trouble with hair in their eyes, because they both make an exaggerated lean forward as they come off their stools. Their blonde locks, sodden straight from sweat and the showers, fall in front of their faces, then are flipped to their backs with an audible SLAP in an almost synchronized motion, leaving them with identical wet skullcaps as they come together. LAURA VANDERVOORT GOES DOWN! Holly gambles an overhand right on approach, and it connects, sitting Laura down on the canvas. Vandervoort brave but shaky to her feet, and Valance bulls her back into the ropes again. Laura keeps her feet, but is battered bell-to-bell as Holly salts away insurance for the final round.

R10: Laura knows she needs a knockout, and comes out with desperation combinations to Holly’s head. Valance knows time is on her side, SHE backs off, lets Vandervoort punch herself out in the first minute. Holly pounds out the points she needs in the second minute. Most of the final minute is spent in a mutually supporting clinch by the two exhausted fighters. After the bell, officials graciously take their time tabulating their scorecards, despite the obvious nature of the decision, letting both fighters have a long soak under their showers before bringing them out to announce Holly Valance the winner UD10.

After: Closest, most back and forth fight of Holly’s American tour. Fighters embrace after announcement, nothing for either fighter to feel bad about, they both poured their hearts out in this one. Just the exposure Holly and Downunder Boxing needed. She’s slated to fight Anna Torv in the upcoming Front Street Australian tour, and rumors swirl of another major stable making an Australian tour as well as at least one more personal challenge for Holly.
