BEFORE: "Crushing Laura Vandervoort catapulted me to a whole new level," grinnin' Maria contends in prefight, "a level Katie can't match. She's never been in with anything like me - never seen my ferocity and determination. I'll tear her up, take her name, get paid, and move on!"

Holmes calm, cool in rebuttal - every inch the experienced veteran. "I've watched Menounos/Vandervoort many times, and it was indeed a very thorough beatdown administered by Maria," Katie allows at podium. "But it was a flawed performance. Maria worked Laura ragged, but openings were always there to be exploited - Laura's just not a sharp-shooter. I am. I'm the kind of fighter who can expose hard-working girls like Maria. If she fights me the way she did Laura, Maria's going to end up on her back. Promise."

Holmes grimacing, keeping feet braced wide while extending left hand to Maria's chest, trying to hold her off...Menounos able to flood the Holmes defences, hammering points out of Katie's body in the first.

R2: Maria grinning, stepping-in with wide, swinging right hands landing PIK! in Katie's left-side ribs. Holmes shying away to her right, cringing...Maria able to dig the left uppercut perfectly to sternum, gutting Katie on the spot, sending tremors down Holmes' long legs. Katie hurrrrt, palming on Maria's shoulders to push her off...Menounos lashing the body wide palm-down rights/swinging lefts. RIGHT UPPERCUT, KATIE H! Holmes in the pocket, fits Maria for a shocking blast to chin...Menounos suddenly wobblybutt, stepping in fence-post holes. Katie steps back, pumps the jab, STARTS FEEDING MARIA STRAIGHT RIGHT HANDS! Menounos staring, stumbling forward...she's getting drilled as Katie stands strong, leans in and cleans up chin! Holmes cold-blooded here - scoring heavily, getting her back into crashing rights, then sidestepping counter-clockwise. Poor Maria a stunned beauty, aggressive instincts taking over as she staggers forward: Katie measuring patiently outside, jabbing stiff, then leaning in righty to paste the cute off Maria's face. Menounos' leg strength on show as she takes a clock-cleaning without going down, but it's Katie H storming back to take the points.

R3: Maria's conditioning saves her on the stool...she storms out for the third eager for payback! Holmes alarmed at the fresh waves of Menounos...Katie shying to her right, trying to keep the left extended to Maria's chest in hopes of spreading her out. Meanwhile, Maria hunting body without mercy - bending torso-left to whip the palm-down right into Katie's left-side lats "PIK!" Stepping in close to shove the short left deep to belly, or uppercut that left to sternum. One such hellacious blast digs into Katie's solar plexus, shutting off power to her legs - right knee gives out, spilling Katie to all fours a minute in! Holmes agonized, gasping for breath...she beats the count brave, but she's ragged at ropes: Maria wades in and OH the body-lather! Sinewy Menounos in wide stance, lashing lefts and rights to Katie's flanks - hacking viciously at torso; cutting hooks across quivering tummy; digging in flat-knuckle lefts or rights to stamp at tummy and tits. It's all too much - body-battered Katie slumps against ropes, then drops to haunches and hands sobbing...Maria holds hands high and struts away the KO...NO! Katie cringing in pain somehow manages to beat the count as Maria's doing a little sexy-dance for the crowd in neutral corner. Menounos visibly shocked to see Katie rallying...Greek Goddess wades back in to pour the lash to the remains of Holmes...Katie sagging into ropes face-in-gloves, sponging up a savage pasting to bell. Maria immediately turning to ref and demanding: "Stop the fight! Can't you see she's finished??" Holmes achy, hugging her body, but limping back to port for repairs.

R4: Grittiest round of boxing in Katie's professional career...desperately hurt, legs badly depleted, she sucks it up and boxes Maria to a standstill. Jab's the key - Maria boring in with hands low, intent on finishing Katie to the body...Holmes spearing Maria's already punished face via stiff, straight lefts, then sidestepping to turn either Greek flank. Katie choosy with her right, but effective - placing it heavily to chin as Maria's coming in, then tying up for clock-chewing ref's breaks. Menounos bogging down in Katie's cleverness...Holmes able to stabilize, punch-n'-clutch her way to crucial 4th round points.

R5: Same again - Katie gutty here, heady - getting just enough lateral movement out of shabby legs to give Maria angles; putting the jab on Maria's face; landing the cross, and tying up to minimize receipts. Menounos SO frustrated - slapping at Katie's hips and ribs in the clinch. At one point, Holmes' hugging around the waist so blatant, Maria's actually pushing Katie's chin and left shoulder back, trying to writhe free of the clutches. Ref issues warnings for excessive holding, but Holmes getting herself together, stymying Maria and controlling events through 5.

R6: Katie in wide stance midring...she hops a half-step back as Maria's wading in, walking Menounos into a pinpoint one-two directly on the chin...MARIA SPILLS TO ALL FOURS! Menounos blinking in shock, trembling as she beats the count: Katie pacing in neutral corner like a caged tiger. Wobbly 8, Maria, Katie strides in strong...IT'S KATIE ON MARIA VIOLENCE AT ROPES! Holmes POURING it to Menounos...stepping into a shoveling right to breadbasket; clawing hooks from the right plant-leg; bending torso-left to clap succulent rights upside Maria's head. Menounos stunned, staring, lolling at ropes...curvy legs hold her up, but OH the beating absorbed - she's a battered wreck, sometimes covering up limp, other times slapping back useless receipts as Katie bends into hateful strokes. Bell: Maria swaying out on her feet, beaten unrecognizable; Katie's chest HEAVING with the effort of the closing attempt as ref moves in.

R7: Groggy beauties flat-foot it to midring, Katie with dukes at cheeks, grunting in pain as Maria plows right hand deep to gut. Menounos crowding close - her head pushing on Katie's guard - Greek fists loading up, dishing heavy left/rights to Katie's flat brown gut. Holmes stricken, put wobbly butt, but HER curvy legs hold her up...by the minute mark she's timing Maria's body work, accepting the damage downstairs, then answering back nifty, short-shrug uppercuts inside and MARIA GOES DOWN! Menounos suddenly rocked, picked up to chin, then sitting down onto haunches-and-hands...Maria blubbering in stupor, wondering WTF as Katie wanders away blinking. Menounos beats the count in a haze, mouth open as she staggers back to meet Katie en route...exhausted vixens lay in mouth-on-shoulder - pushing on each other's hips for a little room, then slugging for tummy. Gasping, sleepy stuff as girls lean upon one another while plowing away underneath...girls mindlessly working each other even after the bell, bringing the ref in. Holmes breaks down into spasmodic crying jag on her stool from the energy expense; battered Maria looks spent, tilting her head back/eyes closed as trainer rubs her thighs.

R8: Grim, staggering approach as girls close, circle - each pawing her left for the other's breasts, then leaning in righty. Maria able to clout Katie a right hand on the chin out of the groggy dance...Holmes startled, knocked off her stance...she reaches to clinch with arms out wide. Maria edges inside the grasp, carving a vicious left uppercut in diagonal arc across Katie's torso, clipping the sternum sweet...KATIE GOES DOWN! Perfect sweeping body shot stiffens Katie's legs - she sits down straight-legged, rolling to her back, arms hugging her gut, head tilted back to expose her throat as she grimaces in gutshot agony. Katie's knees come up as she groans on her back and IT'S OVER! Stunning KO8 brings Maria all the way back from the brink of defeat!

AFter: Menounos badly battered, but jubilant in victory...she comes off the deck to finally shut Katie down after a titanic struggle. "Didn't know she had that kind of fight in her," Maria admits in postfight, punch-shiny face puffy from Katie's accurate work. "I'm the fittest girl in the division, so I look to outwork girls, but give Katie credit - everytime I thought I'd used her up, she came back with power." When asked about her next move, Maria's more than forthcoming. "Ask anybody: I just make great fights. Who wouldn't want to see me take on Grace Park? Blake Lively? Odette Yustman? Strahovski? Michalka if she wants to move up? I mean - I'm the one girl who looks good with ANY opponent. All my fights are crowd-pleasing wars. I'd even give loser-Laura a rematch if she didn't get the message last time out. I just want to work as much body as I can and get girls beat, you know?"
