BEFORE: "I'm ready," A relaxed, composed Rachel Nichols says in prefight. "I'm where I always wanted to be, and when I think back on how hard it's been...I do - I get a little choked up. I've come so far from that first loss to Biel, I mean - she literally tried to put me out of boxing with what I still rank as the worst beating I've ever taken. It was such a low point, so humiliating, so early in my career. But competing against her, measuring up and standing up to her has made me what I am today. I've struggled against Jessica - surpassed her - and now I've got my shot, and it did not come easy. I have a world of respect for Tricia - the best boxer in the sport in my opinion - but make no mistake: I will be leaving the ring with her belts. I've been the understudy to great fighters my whole career: now it's my time to shine."

Helfer gracious as always, applauding politely as Rachel sits down. "In my opinion, Rachel Nichols is the most dangerous top contender at lightweight today," Helfer says at podium. "You must respect a woman who struggles early in her career - fights through the adversity, and stays in long enough to start reaping the rewards. She reminds me of a young Catherine Bell, Erica Durance or Jennifer O'Dell, and it's a thrill to be fighting her at her absolute prime. It's a thrill, and it's a huge opportunity to state my claim to being boxing's most dominant champion. To do that, you must fight perceived threats, and Rachel is exactly that, and then some!"

Rachel in silver bikini; dark auburn (almost black) hair loose, tangly; small black gloves. Tricia in black lace push up bra; leopard print bikini bottoms; small black gloves; long blonde hair in tangles.

During R1: Fighters touch gloves; Rache steps in immediately, jamming short left uppercut to Tricia's bony sternum. Helfer lathering left/right to body - small gloves carving snik-snak across Rachel's ribs - girls leaning forward, working lanky underneath. Rachel digs gouging left/right up into Tricia's ribs; Helfer swings a rangy right to pit of Rachel's paunch/swipes hook across Rachel's jugs. Nichols stubborn, refusing to back out, matching the champion lick for lick underneath...down the stretch it's Tricia disengaging, reorganizing herself in forward aspect with right (back) heel up off canvas, looking to pump jabs. Rachel poked onto the defensive, raising her hands to parry with either palm...busy Tricia sticking Rachel for close points, chipping and scraping Nichols' face at bell.

R2: Tricia resumes forward aspect - weight on front (left) plant leg; right (back) heel up off canvas. Trish POUNDING that straight, stiff jab - small glove PIK-PAKKing off Rachel's face, startling her. Helfer sliding to her left, dragging that front foot in a bucket...she's so graceful easing away to lure Rachel forward; so cunning with her little head-feints, spooking Rachel into second-guessing herself. Stiff jabs pave the way for clean, sliding rights to chin...Rachel really getting stung, punched upright out of her crouches, momentarily vulnerable to wide, hesitation slap-across hooks to mouth. Midway through, Helfer bobbing inside, lashing her long arms into curling blows against Rachel's tummy and sternum...Nichols cramps up, face pinched - she's hurt, backing away in trouble. Helfer hard-hearted, stepping to Rachel, pouring the strap to her. Nichols stricken, butt-in-ropes, back of right hand at left cheek/left tucked into right armpit: Helfer in wide stance, going to work. Weight on left (lead) foot, Trish dips torso-left, pulling the right around to clip-across Rachel's forehead; licks the left uppercut across Rachel's face; dips torso-right, cutting a palm-up right across the line of Rachel's trunks (just legal); dips torso-left, snap-snatching the left off Rachel's tummy, then fits jagged right uppercut to chin as ragged Rachel's opening up to answer...DOWN GOES NICHOLS! Rachel checked perfectly to chin - legs give way - Rachel drops down onto left hip, sprawling to her back parallel to ropes as Helfer stalks away. RACHEL BEATS THE COUNT! All but out, Nichols reaches up into ropes, pulls herself to her feet and stands there swaying in and out of consciousness at bell!

R3: Cold-blooded champ knows what she has to do: bully replaces sorceress as Tricia wades into Foxfire corner with finishing intentions. Rachel still hurt, digging in on her goal-line - it's pate-to-pate tall-girl stroking as Helfer looks to close Rachel out. Both fighters leaning forward, curling rangy lefts and rights up into offending flat midsections/trim ribcages. Trish dipping that left shoulder, jerking in tuff left uppercuts in search of the off-switch in Rachel's solar plexus. Nichols scoring with wide, palm-down rights outside Tricia's left elbow, cutting the champ along her ribs/lats. Bruising, uncompromising fare - Helfer using that left shoulder to sort out Rachel's tits, jostling the challenger in prep for more punishment. Nichols outworked, badly stroked and lashed about her body, but she's still standing at the bell, denying Tricia's stoppage bid.

R4: Helfer loping the perimeter - lanky sorceress going all-out in the third; now she takes a round off to regenerate her reserves. Rachel over to offence, walking Helfer down, jabbing her to chest - occasionally leaning in to snatch right/lefts off Tricia's tight torso. Helfer leggy, denying battle with constant movement, slipping anything ticketed for her chin...champ gets out of the round undamaged but forfeits points as Rachel wins her first heat.

R5: Rachel showing tremendous conditioning, largely recovered from the disastrous third...she's taking the fight to Tricia all around the ring. Helfer supple on her hips, in wide stance, rolling her torso with right under her chin/left across her gut - elbows in. Rache wisely lashing the flanks, rarely trying to find elusive blonde head, though she's darting jabs at face to keep Trish defensive. Slick, sneaky right hand counters from Helfer in select spots - stroking Rachel's left flank, or uppercut-brushing her chin. Rachel's work-rate carries the round as champ's content to slip-and-counter from the pocket.

R6: Similar looking round to fifth as Rachel attacks Helfer supple, rolling pocket...champion does a better job making Nichols miss, then making her pay. Tricia so cute and elusive - slipping shots; dipping low to edge left shoulder into Rachel's body to push her off, or pivot-right around the Nichols left flank. Right uppercut off the back (right) leg a winner for Tricia, catching Rachel neat to chin as Nichols over-extends on right hands. Bell: champ makes steely eye contact with her challenger...Rachel starting to bust up from Helfer's uncanny accuracy through 6.

R7: Rachel spritzing jabs to induce defensive torso-rolling from Trish: follow on rights hack atop Helfer's left hip; jagged left uppercuts dig up into sternum, punching Tricia onto her heels. Helfer grimacing, feeling Rachel to the body...Nichols stalking lanky champion, body-thrashing her to ropes. Tricia forms pocket at the apron - dipping the shoulder into Nichols' body to push her off; rolling side to side under head-shots. Rachel stays poised, refusing to be frustrated...she whacks and hacks at Tricia's hips/lats, hitting what she can as Helfer starts to tire. By the bell, sinewy champ's issuing tired clinches, mouth open on Rachel's shoulder...Nichols making a point of bodying Trish into ropes, making her take weight before ref's breaks.

R8: Body jabs locate Tricia; BOOMING right hand FINALLY cashes in chin...Helfer belted a quarter turn to her right, stumbling away in confusion as Rachel storms up the middle. Nichols stampeding elegant champion to ropes - reaching out to palm Tricia's biceps, pushing champion down before lashing away at her body. Helfer concerned: it's shades of De La Garza or Harmon all over again as Nichols invests in sleek blonde chassis. Tall girls reaching in to push at each other's inner-elbows, then stroking one another savagely underneath...Rachel with the better position - constantly pushing Tricia into ropes; consistently applying strapping licks. Tricia shutting down, overwhelmed...she forms face-in-gloves, putting her flanks on sale and RACHEL'S ALL IN! Nichols heartlessly applying the lash - dipping side to side, pulling willow-switch wallop onto Tricia's slender flanks, beating and beating the champion without mercy. It's all too much...Tricia Helfer eventually easing herself to all fours as a SEETHING Rachel Nichols looms over top, bellowing incoherently down...ref has to pull Rachel away as trembling champ rallies desperately off the deck!

R9: Rachel resolute, grim-faced - dukes up/elbows in as she walks a badly depleted champion down. Tricia: wincing; disheveled; shopworn...she's loping to her right, trying to get long legs back into the fight under insane Nichols pressure. Rachel driving in behind a stiff jab - pounding straight right hands down into Tricia's breasts or stomach, punching blonde-girl into ropes. Helfer forms earmuff, but finds she can't take it to the flanks as Rachel pours-on; Helfer reaches to clinch, but Rachel's too strong - bodying champ into ropes, pushing off, then continuing the beat downstairs. Finally, Tricia slugs for respect, but midway through, her right uppercut gets pre-empted by a swinging overhand right and BLONDE GIRL DOWN! Helfer dropped to her backside as ropes prevent her from sprawling flat out...she's badly dazed, head lolling as Rachel sprints to neutral corner. Swaying 8 Trish Helfer as brave champion refuses to go out: Rachel wades back in. Tricia: back of right hand at left cheek/right tucked into left armpit - sagging into ropes as Rachel POURS on the hurt. Tricia dazed, rolling slowly in the pocket as cascading punches bounce off her head and shoulders...Rache just letting her hands go, getting shoulders, back and buns into the lively thrashing. Bell: Tricia slumping into ropes, cut at her hairline, lashes fluttering...ref pulls Rachel off as seething brunette looks like she's tempted to pile on extra.

R10: Crafty champ rallies herself, jab-jabbing, then holding to mess with Rachel's timing. Leads to clever left uppercuts snapped off taut Nichols breadbasket in spots. Helfer deploying her right hand in strafing runs across Rachel's jugs from outside...late bid to un-nerve the challenger has some effect - prompting Rache into tight defensive looks. Opens up Nichols' flanks: Tricia able to lean in head-on-guard while licking her hands wide to Rachel's body...good, rangy wallop shutting Nichols down to some extent as Trish stabilizes, takes the 10th. LONG delay on the cards as close scores are checked...comes back one point duke for the winner and NEW lightweight champion, Rachel Nichols!

After: Nichols breaking down into shuddering, heartfelt tears as her hand is raised...gracious former champ Helfer offers a congratulatory hug and words of acknowledgment before Rachel is swarmed by her stablemates. "This is totally a dream come true," Rachel sniffs in postfight. "I fought Jessica Biel 3 times in the last year, beating her 2 out of 3, and that was the clincher for me. I knew I wanted a title shot, I knew I wanted to win, but Helfer's just so imposing - you never really know what to expect against her. But now I've beaten the likes of Strahovski, Biel and Helfer, and I feel like I've gone to the next level. I know Durance wants to fight me; I know Torv has issues with me - there's Theron to consider, Cole, Pallicki...so many girls I want to get done! I want to hold these belts a long time; I want to make every fight a special event, and I'm just looking forward to being your FCBA lightweight champion
