TESS VALMORE

Note: Anytime we use the word “outrageous” in our heading you can expect us to insult your favorite fighter, After all, we are not Archer or Sim, who say something nice about everyone. If we don’t manage to irritate you, we have not done our job

In the prediction game, we went 13-4 running our total to 393-176 or 69%, one point below our target of 70%

LOHAN/ LOWNDES We didn’t have to be ringside early, since we were not on the broadcast team like we are at the Asylum. We got there just as the fighters were being introduced. We heard heard Lowndes saying CW said she was the best since.. "I thought to myself “now there is recommendation” We got a look at “it wasn’t me judge” Lohan and headed down to the bar. Eventually someone told us Lohan had won by a decision. We expected, it but it was still a disappointment

CARLSON/ HOUGH This wasn’t as much a fight as it was an execution. Carlson barely managed to get out of the first round. That was her high point. I don’t think she landed a punch in the second round, as Hough pounded her into a TKO. Now Hough is not exactly a super star and never will be, You lose to her like this and it’s time to think about another career

MUMFORD/ OLSEN The first Academy fight on the night which would prove to be a bad evening for Miss Ginny. It was a pitch and catch fight. Mumford pitched and Olsen caught. It was a very one sided fight. I had Mumford winning eight rounds and decking Olsen twice. Olsen barely managed to get out of the sixth and ninth rounds alive. Olsen, however impressed some pundits with her ability to take a beating. Not something I would like to be known for

SPEARS/ JONES The only surprise was that this fight went to a decision. From the first bell it was obvious who was going to win. At was all Britney, as Jones proved she was no better fighter than she is an actress. I was a little disappointed Britney didn’t finish Jones in the second round. Jones won only one round, but lasted to the end of the tenth which probably impressed the pundits with her ability to fight against adversity.

FREEMAN/ PATTON Patton’s reputation rests on one upset win over Righetti. That will probably be the high point of her career, as I expect she doesn’t have much of a one left. Freeman was a 50/50 fighter against some pretty good competition. The two put on a great fight. They were even up going into the fifth round was was sensational, both going down. Patten actually had the lead at the end of seven, but Cassidy took the last three rounds to get the decision

WILSON/ ATKINSON No surprise here. I said Wilson may be rusty, but Atkinson was just plain bad. Atkinson lasted about two minutes before she was punched into next week. It was Wilson’s first win in 2 1/2 years

HOLMES/ MENOUNOS I was surprised by the fight that Holmes put up. I figured this would be a fairly easy fight for Menounos. Holmes barely managed to survive the third, but then came back to take the lead in the bout. She took the next four rounds, putting Menounos on the canvas in the sixth and seventh. It call came to naught when, in the eighth, Menounos landed a vicious punch to Holmes’ sternum that ended the fight. This was Holmes’ fifth straight loss. I would think her future looks dim. As for as Menounos is concerned, I don’t think this win is going to help her much

SHAHI/ PANETTIERE Shahi was operating on all cylinders early in the fight. She hurt Hayden in the two opening rounds. She took the fourth through sixth rounds and then everything turned bad. Hayden worked her over, flooring her in the seventh. In the eighth, Hayden put on the finishing touches flooring Shahi again and punching her stupid until the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. I understand after the fight Shahi’s manager tried to turn her loss into a celebration. i got news for him. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MORAL VICTORY. Either you win or you lose. It’s that simple. The Spartans at Thermopolye covered themselves in glory. Look what happened to them

LIU/ HAYEK Was this a great performance from Hayek or a poor performance from Liu? Liu definitely showed rust from not fighting in three years. She used to be active, moving and using a leaping uppercut to demolish her opponents. She showed neither tonight. She did land an uppercut that hurt Hayek in the eighth round, which was the only round that she won. I hate to say it, but Lucy should forget any thoughts of a comeback and probably settle for a rocking chair

SMULDERS/ LIIVELY Not a bad fight between two journey women. Smulders had the better of the first seven rounds. In the eighth, LIvely found Smulders chin and floored her twice. Lively then proceeded to let the fight get away from her as Smulders out-punched her in the ninth and finished her off with a left uppercut to the body. Lively’ fifth straight loss. Doesn’t bother me, She belongs to Jeri’s

LILLY/ M. KELLY I was wrong on this fight, and quite frankly I don’t mind being wrong. I like Kelly. I have always thought Lilly was a great fighter and she would be too much for Minka. This was a fine fight. The alternated taking rounds right up to the end. Lilly had Minka hurt in the seventh but couldn’t finish her. In the eighth, Kelly hurt Lilly and then showed the killer instinct by giving a Lilly a brutal beating, putting Lilly out on her feet and the referee stopped the fight. Our compliments to Evangeline for the good sportsmanship she showed post decision.

LAWRENCE/ PEREGRYM Lawrence that heir apparent to Charlize came in with a good reputation as a young fighter. It didn’t impress Missy Peregrym. Lawrence managed to steal the first round late. That only aggravated Peregrym to the extent that she ripped into lawrence at the beginning of the second and didn’t lay off until the referee had Lawrence in his arms, protecting her from further punishment. I was happy. Missy is one of our favorites. For Lawrence, back to the drawing boards. Does she have what it takes to assume the Theron mantle? We shall see

DANES/ WILDE I said before the fight that Danes would win if she boxed, but she shouldn’t get in a slugging match with Wilde. I was right. Danes boxed her way to a lead in the first two rounds. In the third, she got into a slugging match with Wilde and was lucky to get out of the round in one piece. Danes went back to boxing and took the bout by a decision

STRAHOVSKI/ THERON What does it take to convince Miss Ginny that her meal ticket just doesn’t have it anymore. In past years, fighters took the first two from Charlize and then ended up regretting they ever heard her name. No more. This was a pitiful performance against a fighter like Strahovski. Yvonne gave the golden goddess a savage beating the last five rounds of the fight. You can say Theron impressed the pundits that way Olsen did, her ability to take a beating. There may be four PPVs before years end. I will predict now Theron will not win another fight this year, and will end the year with her first losing season. Remember I made a prediction like this last year. I may well have been right if a knocked out Theron hadn’t been saved by the bell. That prediction assumes that Charlize doesn’t fight someone like Paris Hilton. Please Miss Ginny. let her go

GARNER/ BIEL Not much to say about this fight. I wish it wouldn’t have ended the way it did, but the result was not surprising. Two Hall of Fame fighters, one in her prime and the other in the last fight of her career (if you want to believe that). Biel was awesome in reducing Garner to wreckage in less than five minutes. I must say that Garner showed a lot of class in the interview after the fight. It’s right that she retire, but the FCBA is losing a class act. Class is something becoming rare in the FCBA these days.

CHABERT/ CARTER This fight will be talked about for years, not that it was a sensational slugging match of the year type fight, but for the way it ended. Was the fight close? Chabert scored the only knockdown in fight in which the rounds were nip and tuck, some too close to call. At the end of ten, the fight was declared a draw. Have we told you how we hate draws? In this case we loved it. For once a champion did the smart thing. Take the draw and walk away with the title intact. You can be courageous or you can be smart. Smart pays off more.

HEWITT/ CAMPBELL I HATE, the way this fight turned out. i don’t even want to talk about it. To think that Neve lost the title to a woman that Fox News just today declared a “Hollywood Has Been” makes me sick. I guess I have to say that Hewitt won the fight fairly on a wide decision and for once didn’t do her usual humiliation. Thank goodness for little favors. i only hope Hewitt’s reign lasts one fight.

HELFER/ NICHOLS The final fight of the night and a good one. Now I have nothing against Helfer. I admire her. That said, I was happy that Nichols won the title as she waited far too long for a championship fight. She has deserved one for a year. It wasn’t easy. Helfer looked like she was going to cream Rachel punching her around in the first three rounds. Helfer took the sixth and the tenth. Nichols took the other rounds. At the end it took the judges some time to make up their minds and they came back with the decision that Nichols had done just enough to take the title. Another compliment to Tricia Helfer for the good sportsmanship she showed after the fight. Other fighters should take notice
