Before: Delany agreeing to the 8 round senior’s limit, bides her time while management seeks lucrative deals in the mainstream market. Dana off a decisive defeat of cousin Kim, faces another Kim, and a similar styled boxer in Basinger--blonde had a little more pop in her heyday, but Delany a solid favourite in this one. Dana in red sports bra, red and black tartan miniskirt, black shoes and gloves, Kim in white sports bra, light blue aerobics bottoms, white shoes and gloves.

During R1-3: Solid, grinding pressure from Dana as she works her game plan to perfection, cutting off the ring, bending to come in low under Kim’s jab, and working in between the hips with short punches, rolling her shoulders inside. Delany hawking the odd wide left or right looper up to Basinger’s head, but mainly concentrating on beating her girl about the waist where Kim seems helpless to respond. Basinger’s legs a nin factor as she lays in with Dana, turning the occasional uppercut inside, but mostly just keeping D close, letting the brunette get off, and trying to stay off the ropes, without success. Basinger clinching, looks like a survivor more than a fighter in these rounds.

R4: Kim gets the uppercut going, leaning into Dana with the left shoulder, then twisting into short clipping strokes under the chin to finally back Delany up. Double D not so good going backwards, doesn’t move her head and Kim stepping with her is able to stab lead rights up the middle to get Delany in trouble. Dana on her heels this round, is victimized as Basinger gets on her toes, shows a little old form, pops the jab/right cross for a shutout round o’ boxing.

R5: Dana doesn’t believe--bulling her way inside, and Kim makes her pay, turning into those tight right uppercuts until Delany’s skirt swishes wildly as her legs try to hold down the ground. Basinger now opening up on a hurt brunette, cranks the hook to Dana’s temple, drags the left hand back across Delany’s lips then chops the right onto D’s face for nice, hard shoe shine action. Down the stretch, Basinger coasts behind a licking jab as Dana bobs well outside, face puffy and sore.

R6: Dana still falling for those uppercuts--literally as she wades in, catches clean on the point of the chin--Kim steps back and Dana crumbles to all fours. Basinger with a veteran move, walks to a neutral corner and casually bangs her knee against Dana’s forehead en route--Dana too stunned to complain. Another shutout once Delany gets up--her legs are trembling, flat footed, she can’t cope with Kim’s arctic jab, and the straight right hands are harming Delany from long distance.

R7: Kim showing her age, slows down and Delany is able to get off in spurts before the blonde can clinch, Still, Basinger in control, picking Dana up as she moves in, then holding for the breaks--Delany can’t find the rhythm as Basinger pockets points.

R8: Delany finally hounds Kim to the ropes, but the blonde is almost playful, leaning into the give, clipping little counter shots, moving her head and clinching while expending as little energy as possible. Delany outworking her girl this round, but misses wildly upstairs, must content herself with pounding Basinger’s gut. Kim raises her fists at the bell, tauntingly a visibly disappointed Dana and the decision confirms the upset: Unanimous duke Kim Basinger.

After: Dana disappointed, beat up around the eyes and cheeks, clearly feels bamboozled as Kim just took the fight away from the brunette. Loss doesn’t help Danas prospects as she looked rusty in this one. Good effort from Basinger who doesn’t have the legs to go 10 any more, but still has some heady blonde tricks up her sleeve and can still dismantle certain kinds of fighters over 8.
