Marti's Maulers' Amelle Berrabah

 couldn't squeeze herself on the stable's inaugural card back in August but she finally makes her BBU debut against former champion Gemma Merna, currently riding a six fight losing streak. It's perhaps the last chance for the blonde actress to make an impression as her fall from BBU throne has been a very painful one. She hasn't won a single fight since losing the flyweight title to Michelle Keegan in July of last year! Newcomer Berrabah seems the perfect opponent to return to winning ways but with Merna nothing can be taken for granted these days. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.

Round 1:
Blonde on the move early, single strikes to the body as Amelle shows some courage and steps up to the former champ but gets repeatedly laced in the ribs. She misses a hooking combo to the head, Gemma ducks and weaves well on her feet, pounds the singer's midsection and forces her back after a spirited effort. Amelle winces a bit, throws single jabs to the head but gets pushed to the ropes with couple of hooks to the chest as Gemma seems really keen to stop her awful losing streak in the past few months. Berrabah skims off the top of her gloves with some wayward hooks, gets nailed on the cheek with a big left moments later and covers up, allows the blonde to clean out her midsection for remainder of the round. First blood, if not literally, to Merna!

Round 2:
Gemma buoyed by the start, keeps the pressure on with some early jabbing in the second but Amelle responds even better, laces her repeatedly in the guts as the singer seems very confident of fighting in close distance despite some nasty licks from the actress so far. She loses another quick exchange as Merna snaps her head back once but then crashes off the gloves and Amelle unloads some venom of her own, whacks the blonde on the ribs, leans on her even more and bangs a quick right on the temple. Gemma's unmoved, responds with a flurry of jabs to the ribcage, can't split Berrabah's mitts though and gets blocked with her efforts to the chest and face. Amelle with a hook over the top, nails the blonde on the temple again, right hand on the tummy follows and Gemma leaps back in frustration. Berrabah tries to chase her down but can't quite match the footwork and fails to reach the ex-champ before the bell anymore. Solid comeback from the newcomer though but perhaps not sufficient enough to give her this round.

Round 3:
Merna is furious after she got tagged few times in the previous round; she leaps after her rival but Amelle ducks away and blocks the chaotic flurru of shots aimed at her and snaps the blonde's head back with an overhand left instead. More jabs to the guts follow and Merna is forced to cover up, soaking some unexpected punishment from the dark-haired rookie. She's stranded in the middle of the ring for a while as Berrabah works her over with some accuracy but that's finally stopped when Gemma lands a left hook between the arms; Amelle got overconfident with lacklustre showing from the ex-champ and pays for a careless moment. Couple of jabs nail her on the mouth before she can cover up, Gemma digs herself out of a hole with more straight jabs to the head but she can't break the singer's guard and settles for a clinch. Both girls seem happy to catch some respite after a high-tempo start to this contest, they push and shove each other until the bell without much significant action in the proccess.

Round 4:
Back to aggressive action from Merna; she jabs to the body, looks to finally crack the singer's stubborn defence and inflict some significant damage but Amelle is quick on her feet, ducks and weaves around the blonde's efforts, counters to the ribcage, flicks an uppercut, tests Merna's guard and bangs a hooking combo over the top. Gemma ducks low, avoids getting laced in the face at first but Berrabah clubs her with a big right on the temple moments later as Merna briefly stopped in her tracks. Blonde winces in pain after that one nailed her clean, leans back while Berrabah ups the tempo, cracks another hook on the temple and rocks the stranded actress on her feet, head-snapping combo to the face follows as Merna suddenly gets really exposed with some formidable power from the brunette singer! Merna moans in pain, but tries to stage a comeback, jabs to the breasts but to no avail, Berrabah with lethal striking, whacks the blonde on the jaw as Gemma failed to raise her arms in time. Merna doesn't stop moaning as Amelle pours in with a flurry of shots to the chest, bashes her rival to the ropes and gutwrenches her with couple of hooks and Gemma sinks on her knees, eats more leather as Berrabah kicks into even higher execution gear, smacks her from both flanks to the head and Merna is a moaning mess, barely able to keep her arms in tact as Amelle barks in anger, cleans out her midsection, bends the blonde in half and sets up for more ... but the bell halts her progress moments later and she's upset, having really worked the actress over. Merna manages to survive but looks very concerned as she walks back to her stool; Berrabah with powerful display, really gave her a rough time there.

Round 5:
It's Berrabah's time to seek destruction as she squares up the pretty blonde and quickly snaps her head back with some precise single jabbing over the top. Merna tries to counter but can't match the brunette's speed and agility, spends most of the round ducking and weaving around the singer's shots, almost running across the ring in avoidance. Amelle seemingly got into her head with a stubborn but effective performance but the runaway tactics give her some respite as Berrabah looks bemused by all the running and yells out at her, encourages her to fight and fails to connect for most of the round bar few single shots late in the going. Crowd is disgusted by Merna's showing in the fifth, but she won't win this fight by simply running laps around the canvas and she got tired from all this Sebastian Coe-alike performance in the end anyway. Awful round here, but does Gemma have a plan to actually win this fight now that Berrabah roughed her up a bit and confirmed she's not here because of her pretty face alone?

Round 6:
More cat and mouse games in the ring; Amella knows she can win on her debut as Merna strays away, riding a terrible streak she just lacks confidence and refuses to engage a potential suicidal tactic and hopes to somehow grind out a win here. Single shots from both girls, the fight has turned into a cagey affair but anything can still happen and as a solitary punch can decide the outcome. It's a calm before the storm though as one imagines someone will have to blink and finish her opponent in a vicious way given the chance. Amelle had Gemma on her mercy in the fourth, but is guilty of some rookie mistakes, she accepts the blonde's style and doesn't chase her down at all, seemingly happy to protect an alleged points lead and this one has really hit the bottom in terms of excitement, Merna uses the second consecutive round just to regain her shape and Amelle allows her to do that, jabbing from mid-range, only grazing the flesh and not looking all that formidable anymore.

Round 7:
Gemma doesn't care about the style in which she secures her first victory for over a year but it's the brunette who finally has enough of the duck and weave stuff as she opens the seventh with a furious charge and surprises her rival who looked to carry on with the hollow display. She gets a quick wake-up call as Amelle slams her ribcage and pierces the gloves with a fine uppercut, snaps her her back with a jabbing double and continues to rain punches thereafter, viciously slamming across the blonde's body. Gemma totally out of the comfort zone, tries to cover up but Berrabah splits her mitts on repeated basis with confident striking, forces her to jump back. Merna in almost panic mode, just hopes to avoid more leather and Amelle can't prevent having a laugh at her frightened rival who just keeps ducking and weaving into safety. She maintains the pressure in the final minute, throwing single shots to the body as Merna's response is nowhere to be seen and one must wonder what's going on with her now.

Round 8:
Berrabah looks to finish the helpless blonde off, but Gemma must have had a long think during the interval and she suddenly squares up to the brunette with some menacing jabs to the head. Amelle leaps to the side, surprised she's still got a fight on her hands, blocks most of blonde's effort, looks much quicker on her feet and counters with a big right on the temple as Merna was all-in and failed to raise her arms in time. The former champion struggles to keep her guard in tact and gets laced on the mouth, drops her aggressive approach and eats quick leather as Amelle whacks her with a straight jabbing combo on the nose. The singer has no mercy for the fallen titleholder, she switches targets, bangs a series to the stomach, whacks another quick hook on the mouth and Gemma's guard is just getting ripped to shreds, she can't stop moaning in pain, allows the brunette to thoroughly work her over for remainder of the round and it's getting painful to watch as Merna endures a hammering with Amelle rocking her back and forth on her feet with some precise striking. She simply enjoys handing out this barrage, snaps Gemma's head again late in the round as the blonde sinks on her knees on the ropes but she manages to stay upright as Berrabah runs out of steam and can't finish her off before the bell, lands some single shots to the liver but no, Merna won't go down just yet. However she's a battered wreck before the ninth, barely able to walk back to her stool and while Amelle is breathinh heavily herself, she's on the verge of giving the ex-champ a really bad knockout.

Round 9:
The accumulation of punches has taken it's toll on Merna and she's very slow off her stool, hopes to just avoid a knockout at this stage, but Amelle comes after her with little sympathy and lots of venom. She quickly softens her up to the stomach, Gemma wanders around the ring in total disarray, covers up but Berrabah splits her mitts with some solid hooks, slams across the nose, whacks her in the guts moments later; blonde bends forward moaning loudly but there's one more left hook on the jaw that finally puts her out of her misery... MERNA CRASHES DOWN ON HER KNEES!!! Ref starts the count but the fallen blonde bends her head across the canvas and bursts into tears, the last straw of ultimate humiliation. The brunette rival just thumped her into the ground, dwarfed her both mentally and physically and Merna is a sobbing mess at the end of the night as ref counts her out!!! KO R9 Amelle Berrabah!!!

Post-fight:
Amelle climbs the ropes and celebrates her maiden BBU victory while a completely shattered Gemma is escorted back to the locker room. She can't stop crying her eyes out after being thoroughly beaten up by a superior rookie. At this point she's more hittable than even Roxanne Pallett and the word on the street is Cheryl Cole wants to bust her up as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile it's all smiles for Amelle who looks to emulate her bandmate Heidi Range and fight for the flyweight honors in the future: "It's a shame I haven't started my career a bit sooner. I have some catching up to do but with such a fine win on my debut I think I can do it!" , a visibly excited singer tells Denise van Outen in post-fight interview, "Gemma is no Roxy Pallett, beating the crap out of her means so much to me and I just can't wait for further challenges. I believe I can be Maulers' top flyweight soon and then make some noise in the entire BBU as well. Just give me a girl and I will beat her up like I did with Merna and everybody will praise my skills again!"
