CW “Premieres” PPV

The anticipation for the event here at the CW is at least the equal – if not more – than the ABC PPV just a few scant weeks earlier. As if taking cues from their respective stars, the event themselves appeared to be in direct competition as well. The CW event appeared determined to outdo their counterparts at ABC in every respect – with the events taking place not at one of their typical filming locations, but at the New York Palace Hotel, where many scenes for Gossip Girl have been filmed. It's a very extravagant setting for the events and it is clear that the producers of tonight's gala have spared no expense in making sure that food, drinks and fun flow freely throughout the evening.

Regardless of whether they are competing in the evening's competitive contests, the CW ensures that their talent is absolutely present this evening to promote their brand and respective television programs. A few notable examples of stars who would be appearing and presenting throughout the evening – albeit not competing – would be Blake Lively (Gossip Girl), Candice Accola (Vampire Diaries), Maggie Q (Nikita), Shenae Grimes (90210), Jessica Stroup (90210) or Jewel Staite and Cassie Steele (LA Complex). Ms. Steele was very vocal throughout the evening as an FCBA hopeful, telling various interviewers how much better she would be than some of the flyweights already signed to FCBA rosters. , which made her few friends, especially in light of her recent Snark Magazine interview.

Also, you had several individuals from upcoming midseason shows such as Mamie Gummer (Emily Owens M.D.), Jessica Lucas and Alona Tal (Cult). From the upcoming Sex and the City Prequel, the Carrie Diaries, you had AnnaSophia Robb, Chloe Bridges, Katie Findlay, Ellen Wong and last but not least, Freema Agyeman, who was well known to sci-fi fans. All of them were relentless and cheerful in promoting their new television offerings.

As was the case with the ABC event, rival networks sent several of their biggest stars to promote their television shows and it was practically an identical set of representatives than the previous PPV. You had stars such as Demi Lovato from the X-Factor (Fox), Glee's Dianna Agron and Naya Rivera (Fox) Smash's Katherine McPhee (NBC), Community's Allison Brie (NBC), The Voice's Christina Aguilera (NBC), Katee Sackhoff and Cassidy Freeman from Longmire (A & E), Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones (HBO), True Blood's Anna Paquin (HBO) as well as Warehouse 13's Allison Scagliotti and Joanne Kelly (Syfy).

A few noteworthy additions who noted the success of the previous event (many shows received a bounce after their stars appeared on the ABC event) were Tracy Spiridakos (NBC's Revolution) and Anna Torv (Fringe). CBS had previously tried to snub the last event with ABC, but were unable to ignore the success and this time sent Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls), Grace Park (Hawaii 5-0), Lucy Liu (Elementary), Poppy Montgomery (Unforgettable), Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Amanda Righetti (Mentalist), Daniela Ruah (NCIS: LA), Bridget Moynahan (Blue Bloods) and Jennifer Esposito (Blue Bloods). It was an added layer of complexity and rivalry to an already tense evening as arguments and spirited debates – sometimes turning physical – appeared to break out throughout the evening. Extra security was already on hand – having hopefully learned their lesson from the calamity experienced at the ABC PPV.

Security was forced to deal with Eloise Mumford early, one of the stars of last year's canceled-too-soon The River on ABC, who insisted on being part of the ABC delegation but as her show was no longer on the air, was not permitted to join the festivities. Nearby, you could see the Vampire Diaries' Candice Accola and Nina Dobrev, smirking and were reported to declare that this event had no room for “has-beens.”, which drew a squeal of outrage from Eloise who tried to charge through but was escorted away from the event. Sarah Carter (TBS' Falling Skies) and a fellow Foxfire stable member couldn't suppress a smirk, but this didn't last long as she was quickly embroiled in a shoving match with her Falling Skies co-star, Jessy Schram. Thankfully, with security having just returned from escorting Ms. Mumford off of the premises, they were able to resolve that situation quickly.

The evening's festivities were hosted by Tyra Banks (America's Next Top Model), who made sure to take the stage at just the right time – when things appeared they were getting out of hand – in order to make sure the evening proceeded smoothly. As Ms. Banks took the stage, she presided over the presentations as they showed numerous highlight reels, key scenes and exclusive prevews for the upcoming shows. Each of these were accompanied by brief speeches by several of the cast members with the associated television shows to promote them and the crowd received each of them warmly with accompanying applause and cheers. The presentations concluded with a brief sizzle reel showcasing each of their shows and the CW itself, which built up the anticipation for the season nicely.

Then, it was time for the matches themselves – undoubtedly the main reason why many of the stars were here in attendance – to watch some of the finest from the small screen compete tonight. Not only would they be treated to some excellent boxing action, but many FCBA hopefuls would be scouting future competition. A ring had been set up in the hotel for these events – with an exclusive guest list being able to sit around the ring side.

And of course, to return the favor, the seats closest to the ring had been reserved by a small parade of stars from ABC. Hayden Panettiere (Nashville), Troian Bellisario (PLL), Shay Mitchell (PLL), Lucy Hale (PLL), Ashley Benson (PLL), Elisha Cuthbert (Happy Endings), Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue), Charlotte Sullivan (Rookie Blue), Jennifer Morrison (OUAT), Lana Parrilla (OUAT), Megan Ory (OUAT), Jessy Schram (OUAT), Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) and from Revenge, Margarieta Levieva, Ashley Madekwe and Emily VanCamp. This was not unexpected and was part of a lucrative agreement between the CW and ABC. Noticeably, most of the co-stars from their respective shows did not sit next to each other.

However, this did not mean that security personnel were not prepared to try to stop any additional competition outside of the ring. However, CW organizers appeared resigned to more fights and indeed, seemed eager for them to occur for promotional purposes. As a result, the CW was certain to live up to their slogan “TV Now” as the fights would be starting immediately.

The fights would consist of:

Kat Graham (Vampire Diaries) versus Kristen Kreuk (Beauty and the Beast)

Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie) versus Jessica Lowndes (90210)

Willa Holland (Arrow) versus Lyndsey Fonseca (Nikita)

Annalynne McCord (90210) versus Katie Cassidy (Arrow)

Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries) versus Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl)

And now, without further ado, let's get started...
